Set your OBS stream’s YouTube Live keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. That guidance is platform-wide; the reviewed YouTube documentation gives no separate interval for streams sent from India.
Set the interval to 2 seconds
In OBS, find the keyframe interval in the settings for the encoder that is actively sending your stream. The exact menu labels can depend on your OBS version and encoder; the available YouTube guidance establishes the target value, not a current OBS click-by-click path. Check the active streaming encoder’s settings rather than changing an unrelated recording encoder.
- Open the active stream encoder’s settings in OBS. Confirm you are changing the encoder used for your YouTube stream.
- Set keyframe interval or keyframe frequency to 2 seconds. If the control asks for frames instead of seconds, calculate the value as frame rate × interval: at 30 fps, enter 60 frames; at 60 fps, enter 120 frames.
- Check GOP mode if your encoder exposes it. YouTube says its pipeline requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding.
- Save the encoder settings, then test the stream before going public. Use representative audio and motion, and monitor YouTube’s stream health and any encoder or ingestion messages.
YouTube Help’s live encoder guidance states: “Keyframe frequency: Recommended 2 seconds Do not exceed 4 seconds.” Its troubleshooting guidance says that if you change frame rate, change keyframe frequency so keyframes continue arriving every 2 seconds. These recommendations do not identify a different value for India.
Seconds, frames, and GOP: what the setting means
A keyframe interval is the time between keyframes in the encoded video. Some encoders express it in seconds; others express it as a number of frames. Convert using the stream’s actual frame rate: interval in frames = frames per second × interval in seconds. For example, 30 fps × 2 seconds = 60 frames. If you change the frame rate, recalculate the frame count to keep the interval at two seconds.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
GOP (group of pictures) is the sequence of frames between keyframes. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says that an overly long interval can cause buffering, and that ingestion errors can produce incorrect GOP sizes. So a value displayed in OBS is not, by itself, proof that YouTube is receiving the intended cadence; check stream health after starting.
Keep keyframe frequency separate from the other encoder settings
The 2-second recommendation is not a bitrate setting. YouTube lists keyframe frequency alongside other encoder choices, including RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1, up to 60 fps, and CBR encoding. Choose bitrate separately for your resolution, frame rate, codec and reliable upload capacity; do not change it to address a keyframe-frequency warning.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Keyframes: 2-second frequency; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: Use the frame rate appropriate to your stream, and convert the interval to frames if the encoder requires a frame count.
- Bitrate: Select the value appropriate to the chosen codec, resolution and frame rate, with upload capacity in mind.
- GOP: Use a closed GOP when the encoder offers that choice.
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends checking upload speed and testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Network conditions and routing can differ across India, so the shared keyframe recommendation does not guarantee identical stream reliability in every location.
Troubleshoot keyframe warnings and stream problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube says keyframes are too infrequent | The configured interval may exceed 2 seconds, or the encoder may be delivering a different GOP cadence than its setting suggests. | Set the active stream encoder to 2 seconds (or the equivalent frame count), then check YouTube’s stream health and messages while live. |
| The warning appears after changing frame rate | A frame-count setting may still reflect the previous frame rate. | Recalculate: at 30 fps, 2 seconds is 60 frames; adjust for the new frame rate. |
| The configured value looks right, but YouTube still reports a GOP issue | YouTube notes that ingestion errors can cause incorrect GOP sizes. | Verify actual delivery in stream health rather than relying only on the OBS field; check whether the encoder supports a closed GOP. |
| Stream buffers despite the correct interval | Keyframe frequency is only one encoder setting; bitrate, upload capacity and ingestion health are separate factors. | Review stream health, test upload capacity, and choose a bitrate appropriate to the codec, resolution and frame rate. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream of uploaded videos rather than a live camera or gameplay capture, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
