To send a YouTube Live Redirect, a creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The channel receiving the redirect controls who may send viewers to its Premiere or live stream. These are separate from YouTube’s general livestream requirements, which include channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
Who can use YouTube Live Redirect?
Sending a redirect
YouTube’s current Live Redirect Help page says a creator sending a redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Exactly 1,000 subscribers does not meet the stated threshold.
Sending viewers also requires a source livestream or Premiere configured for the feature. The subscriber and strike conditions are specific to sending redirects; they are not the same as the general requirements to livestream.
Receiving a redirect
A channel’s size does not by itself determine whether it can receive a redirect. The recipient channel sets its redirect permissions in YouTube Studio. A sender can choose that channel as a destination only if its settings allow the sender.

Live Redirect rules versus livestream eligibility
YouTube’s general livestreaming requirements are separate: the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Meeting those general conditions does not replace the Live Redirect sender threshold of more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
YouTube’s live-stream feature comparison lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams and unavailable in the vertical live feed. That distinction refers to the configurations in YouTube’s comparison; it should not be read as a broader claim about every possible streaming setup.

Where can a redirect send viewers?
A source creator can redirect viewers to either:
- A Premiere, including the creator’s own Premiere.
- Another channel’s live stream, provided the destination channel permits that redirect.
YouTube describes the feature as a way to send a live stream’s viewers to a Premiere to build excitement or to another channel’s live stream to help another creator grow.
How do I redirect my live stream viewers?
- Prepare the destination. If sending viewers to a Premiere, create and schedule it first. YouTube recommends setting up the Premiere before the livestream.
- Open the source event in Studio. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live and edit the source livestream.
- Open Customization. In the source event’s settings, select Customization.
- Add the destination. Under Redirect, choose Add, then select the Premiere or a permitted channel’s live stream.
- Save and run the source event. When the source livestream ends, YouTube’s Help page says autoplay moves viewers to the selected destination.
YouTube also provides a route for configuring a Premiere to redirect viewers. Because Studio labels and availability can change, follow the current options shown for the event you are editing.

How do I allow other creators to redirect to my channel?
Set recipient permissions in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s current Help documentation describes three permission scopes:
- Channels you subscribe to: channels the recipient subscribes to may redirect to it. This is the default unless the recipient’s subscriptions are private.
- All channels: allow any channel to redirect to the recipient. This setting cannot be combined with the subscription-based setting or the manual approval list.
- Specific approved channels: manually approve channels. YouTube allows up to 100 channels in this list. This option can be combined with the subscription-based setting.
Choose the scope that matches how open you want the destination to be. If a creator says they cannot select your channel, check that your settings include them—directly, through subscriptions, or through the all-channels option.

What happens to viewers when the source ends?
YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the selected Premiere or livestream when the source stream ends. In a May 3, 2022 TeamYouTube announcement, YouTube added that viewers with autoplay disabled may need to click the play button. Treat that as dated supplementary guidance; the current Help page is the primary source for present-day setup and permissions.
For a smoother handoff, YouTube recommends telling viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends so their screens can reload. It also suggests pinning a live-chat message on the Premiere page that directs viewers to the livestream, and allowing other streamers to redirect to your channel if you want to receive those audiences.

Common Live Redirect problems
- The redirect option is unavailable to the sender: confirm the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Also confirm the event is a supported horizontal livestream configuration rather than the vertical live feed.
- The destination channel does not appear: the recipient may not permit redirects from that sender. Ask the recipient to check its redirect permissions in YouTube Studio.
- The recipient expects to allow everyone and approved channels together: YouTube does not allow the all-channels setting to be combined with the subscription setting or manual approval list. Use one permitted configuration.
- The channel can livestream but cannot send a redirect: general livestream eligibility and Live Redirect sender eligibility are distinct. Check the separate subscriber and strike conditions.
- Some viewers remain on the source after it ends: viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play, according to TeamYouTube’s 2022 announcement. Tell viewers to wait briefly for the transition and provide the destination in chat where appropriate.
