Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse YouTube Live Redirect when you want to hand viewers from a finished live stream or Premiere to another live stream or Premiere. Use an end screen when you want clickable prompts to appear during the closing seconds of an eligible video. They serve different moments: Live Redirect is a post-stream handoff; an end screen is an in-video call to action.
Live Redirect and end screens do different jobs
| Question | Live Redirect | End screen |
|---|---|---|
| When does it appear? | After a live stream or Premiere ends. | During the final 5–20 seconds of an eligible video. |
| What can viewers do? | Continue to a selected Premiere or, with permission, another channel’s live stream. | Choose clickable elements such as a video, playlist, subscription prompt, channel, or eligible external website link. |
| What is the key eligibility rule? | The creator sending the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. A recipient channel must permit redirects from that sender. | The video must be at least 25 seconds long. End screens are unavailable in some contexts, including videos set as made for kids. |
| How much control does the viewer have? | Autoplay may move viewers to the destination; viewers with autoplay turned off must click to continue, according to TeamYouTube’s May 3, 2022 announcement. | Viewers can hide end screens, and YouTube says their appearance can vary by device and context. |
YouTube Help describes these as separate features, not interchangeable ways to trigger the same action. Its current help pages, accessed October 3, 2026, provide feature instructions and rules, not a controlled comparison showing that one increases retention or clicks more than the other.
How to set up Live Redirect
Check eligibility and recipient permissions
- The sending channel needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes, according to YouTube Help’s current Live Redirect guidance.
- For a handoff to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow your channel to redirect to it. The recipient can allow channels it subscribes to (unless subscriptions are private), allow all channels, or choose specific channels.
- The recipient can add up to 100 channels to its selected-channel list. It can combine that list with the subscribed-channels setting. The allow-all option cannot be combined with either the subscribed-channels setting or a manual list.
Choose the destination in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content.
- Select the Live tab and edit the source stream.
- Open Customization. Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose a Premiere or search for another channel’s live stream, then confirm the selection. YouTube displays a confirmation when the source live stream ends.
You can also configure a Premiere to redirect after it finishes. If the intended destination is a Premiere, set up the Premiere first. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance suggests allowing about two seconds for the Premiere page to reload; tell viewers to wait briefly rather than leaving immediately. You can also pin a message in the Premiere’s live chat pointing viewers to the stream, and allow other streamers to redirect to your live stream if you want to receive their audiences.
What viewers experience
Viewers with autoplay enabled may continue to the selected destination after the source ends. TeamYouTube’s May 3, 2022 announcement explicitly says that viewers with autoplay turned off must click the play button to continue. Because that explicit description is dated, check the live viewer experience in YouTube if exact current behavior is critical to your event.

How to add an end screen
Check the video and element limits
- The video must be at least 25 seconds long. End-screen elements can appear in its last 5–20 seconds.
- A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements. Other aspect ratios may allow fewer.
- Elements include a video, playlist, subscribe prompt, channel promotion, and an external website link for channels in the YouTube Partner Program. A video or playlist can be selected from your channel or another channel.
Add and preview the screen
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the video.
- Choose Editor, then End screen.
- Add the element or elements you want, adjust their timing and placement, and preview the result.
- After publication, review end-screen performance in YouTube Analytics.
Leave clear visual space near the end of the video so prompts do not obscure important content. YouTube says viewers can hide end screens and that they may not always appear, or may look different, depending on performance, viewer behavior, device, and context. They are unavailable on made-for-kids videos and are not visible in some other viewing contexts, including mobile web (except iPad mobile web), YouTube Music or YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos.
Which feature fits your goal?
- “When this stream ends, take viewers to the next live event.” Set up Live Redirect and confirm the recipient channel’s permission beforehand.
- “Give viewers a clickable next step as this video ends.” Add an end screen, leaving enough time and usable space in the closing portion.
- “I want both.” Configure each feature separately: Live Redirect handles the post-stream transition, while the end screen is a call to action within the video. They apply at different viewer moments.
If your goal is a continuous prerecorded stream
Live Redirect is a handoff after a stream ends, not a way to keep a YouTube channel continuously broadcasting. If you want uploaded videos to play in a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs without leaving a computer or home connection on. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically attempts recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first free day with no card required. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only; it does not perform a camera-based live broadcast.
