PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a 1440p (2560 × 1440), 30 fps YouTube Live feed, YouTube recommends 15 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC (5 Mbps minimum), or 21 Mbps for H.264 (7 Mbps minimum). Set the encoder to CBR with a 2-second keyframe interval, use RTMPS if supported, and leave upload capacity for the full stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. These are live-ingestion recommendations, not settings for uploading a prerecorded video file.
Recommended settings for 1440p at 30 fps
YouTube’s live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, specifies different video bitrates by codec. The table below applies to a 1440p, 30 fps live input:
| Setting | Recommended value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 2560 × 1440 at 30 fps | YouTube detects these by default. Manual selection is available with a custom stream key and manual settings enabled under Stream Resolution. |
| Video bitrate | AV1 or H.265/HEVC: 15 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum. H.264: 21 Mbps recommended; 7 Mbps minimum. | YouTube’s figures are live-ingestion recommendations and minimums for the specified codec, resolution, and frame rate. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate is listed in YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport to its servers. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; stereo 128 Kbps in the advanced guidance | YouTube supports 5.1 surround over RTMP/RTMPS only with AAC. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | HDR uses different settings; YouTube’s general encoder guide specifies H.265 and 10-bit for HDR. |
YouTube transcodes the incoming live feed into formats for viewers. You send one chosen input stream, not a separate encoder rendition for each playback quality.
How much upload speed do you need?
Plan for the total outgoing bitrate, including audio and any backup feed, then reserve 20% headroom above that total. For example, the 20% allowance applies to a H.264 video bitrate of 21 Mbps plus audio—not to 21 Mbps alone. Check outbound upload capacity; a download-speed result does not establish that your upload can sustain the broadcast.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube recommends testing with content and audio similar to what you plan to stream, checking stream health and messages, and using a speed test to assess upload bitrate. Its advice is to test before starting the live stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
What “playlist streaming” means
The phrase can mean either sending a sequence of prerecorded videos as one live feed or working with a protocol-level media playlist. They are different workflows.

Playing prerecorded videos as a live feed
A normal YouTube watch-page playlist organizes videos for viewers; it is not an encoder input. To present prerecorded material as a live broadcast, an encoder or service must send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and AJA HELO Plus hardware with PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live. Those listings identify options; they do not establish comparative prices or service reliability.
Before relying on a prerecorded playlist for continuous output, check the highest-resolution source, audio continuity, transitions, and any blank or incompatible items. These are practical checks for the actual playlist, rather than a YouTube-prescribed test checklist.

HLS media playlists
An HLS Media Playlist is a manifest describing media segments in a continuous decodable stream. It is not a YouTube content playlist. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide supports Media Playlists and ignores Master Playlists; it requires one encoded stream at the highest desired resolution, muxed audio and video, HTTPS, and a persistent connection. See Google’s HLS ingestion documentation.
Set up and test the YouTube broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance covers access and restrictions. Live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast. Get the stream URL and key. Treat the key like a password: protect it and reset it if it is exposed. See Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Configure the encoder. Choose 1440p at 30 fps, a codec and its corresponding bitrate, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where supported. Enter the stream URL and key. If YouTube’s automatic resolution detection is unsuitable, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
- Test the real feed. Use representative audio and motion. Confirm the encoder preview, sustained upload capacity with the 20% headroom, audio, transitions, and stream-health messages before the planned broadcast.
- Start and monitor. For a scheduled broadcast, connect the encoder and confirm the preview in Live Control Room before going live. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality while it runs.
Latency, DVR, and archive limits
Latency is the delay between capture and playback. YouTube notes that lowering latency can increase buffering, so it may matter less when viewers do not need to interact in real time. Enabling DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume the live stream. Both choices are managed in YouTube’s live stream settings.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder setup guidance does not promise automatic archiving at or beyond 12 hours, so do not rely on an archive for a longer continuous broadcast without another recording plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keeping a prerecorded stream running
A local software encoder or hardware encoder gives you control over the setup, but the encoder and its internet connection must remain available for the feed to continue. A cloud service runs the feed remotely. When choosing a method, compare playlist scheduling and overlays, supported output resolution and codec, monitoring and recovery controls, ongoing equipment and service costs, and archive needs. The YouTube encoder listings do not provide a like-for-like comparison of commercial pricing or service-level reliability.
