Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To keep a single video playing in OBS after it reaches the end, open its Media Source properties and turn on Loop. OBS documents Loop as off by default. If the video repeats but the YouTube broadcast still ends, check OBS’s connection and YouTube’s encoder controls separately: a file ending and a live stream ending are different events.
Make one media file repeat in OBS
- In OBS, find the Media Source in the Sources list and open its properties. If you have not added it yet, add a Media Source and select the file you want to play.
- Enable Loop, then apply the change. OBS describes this setting as controlling whether the file plays again after playback completes; its documented default is Off. OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Keep the source visible in the scene and confirm playback reaches the end and starts again. If you are testing a live broadcast, also verify that OBS remains connected and streaming after the file’s endpoint.
OBS lists common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Media Source is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux, according to the OBS documentation.
Do not confuse Loop with the other playback options
- Loop repeats the media file when playback completes.
- Show nothing when playback ends hides the source at the end; it does not enable repeat playback.
- Restart playback when source becomes active starts the file over when the source becomes active in the current scene. It does not control what happens at the end of a playthrough.
- Close file when inactive unloads the file when the source is hidden or not on the current scene, which can save memory. OBS warns that showing the source again may cause a short reload delay.
These are separate Media Source behaviors documented by OBS. For a single repeating clip, Loop is the setting to change.
Use a playlist only when you need one
If you want several clips to play in rotation, add a VLC Video source and use Loop Playlist. OBS documents Loop Playlist as On by default. This source uses VLC libraries, so VLC must be installed; for 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

For one file, the built-in Media Source with Loop enabled is the simpler route. Choose VLC Video when the playlist—not just a single clip—is what you need.
If YouTube ends the broadcast too
OBS plays the file locally and sends the encoder feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guidance distinguishes sending content from ending a stream: when the encoder stops sending content, the stream ends. YouTube also provides Auto-start and Auto-stop controls that, when enabled, allow the encoder to start or stop streaming. See Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- First check the OBS preview or output: is the media source actually repeating?
- If it repeats, check whether OBS is still connected and streaming after the file’s endpoint.
- In YouTube’s live stream settings, inspect Auto-start and Auto-stop and confirm they match how you intend to control the broadcast.
- If the broadcast still ends, review the encoder connection and stream controls. The available documentation does not establish the cause of an individual stream ending without details such as scene setup, logs, and stream settings.
YouTube’s encoder setup uses a stream URL and stream key to direct the encoder’s feed to YouTube. Its scheduled-stream instructions also say to click End Stream and stop encoder output when ending the broadcast. Do not change unrelated media playback options to solve a broadcast-control issue.
