To let someone livestream on a YouTube channel linked to a Brand Account, the primary owner should move access management to YouTube Studio channel permissions, then invite that person as a Manager or Editor. The invitee uses their own Google Account; you do not need to share the owner’s password. The channel must also be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
Set up live-stream access through YouTube Studio
YouTube directs Brand Account channels to use channel permissions to add or remove channel access. Only the Brand Account’s primary owner can opt in to this permissions system. Existing Brand Account users are copied over during migration, but each person still needs a permission level set and an invitation sent.
- Sign in as the Brand Account primary owner. Open YouTube Studio on a computer.
- Open Settings > Permissions.
- Select Move permissions. This moves access delegation from Brand Account roles to permissions managed in YouTube Studio.
- Set a permission level for each person who needs access, then send the invitation. Do this even for existing Brand Account users copied over during migration.
- Ask each invitee to accept the invitation email. They then access the channel through their own Google Account.
Channel permissions work through YouTube and YouTube Studio on computer and mobile. Invited users cannot manage the channel through YouTube APIs. See YouTube’s instructions for adding or removing access with channel permissions and migrating from Brand Account user access.
Choose a role that matches the person’s full job
A legacy Brand Account Manager and a YouTube Studio channel-permissions Manager are not interchangeable labels. Set the permission in YouTube Studio after migration rather than assuming an existing Brand Account role grants the access a stream operator needs.

| Channel permission | Live-stream access | Other relevant permissions |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Can manage live streams and live chat. | Can manage permissions and delete the channel; cannot transfer ownership to another user through channel permissions. |
| Manager | Can manage live streams and live chat. | Can manage permissions in YouTube Studio; cannot delete the channel. |
| Editor | Can manage live streams and chat/moderation in Live Control Room. | Cannot manage permissions or delete scheduled, live, or completed streams. |
| Viewer | Can monitor created streams and view stream settings except the stream key. Cannot manage streams, go live, end streams, or chat/moderate in Live Control Room. | Read-only access to the channel. |
| Subtitle Editor | Cannot manage live streams. | Limited to subtitle work on eligible videos. |
For most stream operators, choose Editor if they need to operate streams and content but should not administer access. Choose Manager only if they also need to manage channel permissions. Use the least powerful role that covers the person’s responsibilities. YouTube may change role names or capabilities; check its current channel-permissions role guide before assigning access.
Check the channel’s livestream eligibility separately
A role grants delegated access; it does not make an ineligible channel able to go live. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. Check the channel’s status separately from the invitee’s role.

Know the limits of Brand Account and channel roles
- A legacy Brand Account Manager cannot invite other users under the Brand Account role system. YouTube’s channel-permissions Manager can manage permissions in Studio.
- A legacy Communications Manager cannot take actions on YouTube. The current channel-permissions roles include Owner, Manager, Editor, Editor (Limited), Subtitle Editor, Viewer, and Viewer (Limited); capabilities differ by role.
- Do not treat “Manager” as a universal permission label. Confirm which role system is active and assign the channel permission the person actually needs.
- YouTube cautions that deleting the primary owner’s Google Account linked to the channel also deletes the channel. Review YouTube’s guidance on changing Brand Account owners and managers before changing or deleting that account.
Keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer running
Permissions let a person manage a livestream; they do not keep a prerecorded stream running around the clock. If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only, not from a camera.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps the stream running without a computer left on at home, plays your uploads as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
