YouTube Playables is a collection of casual games built into YouTube’s website and mobile apps. You can start a game without installing a separate app or subscribing to YouTube Premium, but access depends on your country, device, app version and account rollout.
What is YouTube Playables?
Playables are interactive games launched from YouTube—not videos about games and not a separate gaming app. They are designed for quick sessions, with examples including puzzle, word, trivia and arcade-style games. YouTube announced the feature on May 28, 2024, with more than 75 games; that was the launch count, not a current catalog total. The selection can change over time. YouTube’s launch announcement named Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask and Trivia Crack.

Think of Playables as low-friction entertainment inside YouTube, not a replacement for a console, PC game library or mobile app store. The games run through YouTube’s website or app and require an internet connection; “no download” does not mean “no data use.” Mobile data charges may apply.
How to find and start a game
The exact placement can vary as YouTube changes its interface. Try these routes:

- On the website: Look for a Playables shelf on Home, open Explore and choose Playables, or search YouTube for Playables or a game title.
- In the mobile app: Check Home or Explore for Playables, then tap a game card. Saved games may also appear in the You tab.
Choose a game card to launch it within YouTube. You can share a game from its three-dot More menu by selecting Share. A direct link can help someone find a title if the shelf is hard to locate, but it cannot bypass country, device, account or rollout restrictions. Is Playables free? Do you need Premium?
YouTube presents Playables as a collection of free games, and its consumer documentation does not list YouTube Premium or a separate purchase as a requirement. “Free” means you can launch available games without paying to access the Playables catalog. It does not guarantee that every game is free of advertising, optional purchases or other monetization; those details can differ by game. Google’s developer documentation describes pre-roll, interstitial and rewarded-ad opportunities, but that does not establish that every game uses them. YouTube does not say that Premium removes all Playables ads, so do not assume it does. Google’s monetization documentation is aimed at developers, rather than a promise about what a particular player will see.

Supported countries, devices and browsers
YouTube’s Help Center lists Playables in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. The list is not a promise that every account in those countries will see the feature: rollout and discoverability can vary.

App and operating-system requirements can change. If your device or app is below the listed version, update before troubleshooting further. A Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection is required.

When you are signed in, YouTube says progress is saved automatically and synced across supported devices using the same account. Game activity is stored in YouTube History → Interactions. There is one save file per game; deleting it removes that game’s progress across supported devices. Best scores are stored separately from progress. Not every game necessarily saves progress or scores in YouTube History, and games played while YouTube History is off will not appear in Playables history.

Manage YouTube History at myactivity.google.com. Be careful when deleting activity or saved game data: removing a save can erase progress, not merely hide a recently played title. Pausing history may also affect whether games appear in history and whether progress syncs.

Why can’t I see Playables?
Work through these checks:
- Confirm you are in one of the countries YouTube currently lists.
- Update the YouTube app and check that your operating system meets the requirements above.
- On the web, try Chrome, Safari or Firefox.
- Look in Home, Explore, Search and the You tab rather than relying on one shelf position.
- Try a Playables link shared by someone else. Some eligible users may be able to open a game this way even when Playables is not an obvious destination.
- If you previously chose Not interested on a Playables shelf, check whether that affected what appears in your recommendations.
- Sign in if you want saved progress and scores associated with your account.
A missing shelf does not necessarily mean your device is broken. Country eligibility, app version, device support and staged availability can all matter, and there may be no user-controlled setting to force-enable the feature. The official guidance does not establish buying Premium, using a VPN, clearing cache or reinstalling the app as reliable fixes.
Can developers publish games on Playables?
Google says Playables are built with standard web technologies and can support games made with engines or frameworks that export web builds. Its developer documentation lists tools such as Phaser, Cocos, Godot and Unity. But this is not an open storefront where any developer can simply upload a game: Google describes developer access as early access, with onboarding and channel permissions for its private-preview portal. Interested developers can review Google’s Playables developer documentation and its developer portal information.
