YouTube announced a test of real-time multiplayer for Playables on December 9, 2024, naming Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3 as the first games. It was a limited experiment, not multiplayer for the full Playables catalog. As of August 18, 2026, YouTube’s public Help page does not confirm whether that test remains active or list a current multiplayer roster.
What YouTube tested
YouTube said it was testing real-time play with other users in “a few select games,” with access on desktop and mobile devices. The announcement described an experiment, not a full launch or a multiplayer mode for every Playable. It did not publish a comprehensive game list or a rollout timetable. YouTube’s December 9, 2024 announcement is the source for the test’s scope.
Real-time multiplayer is different from ordinary Playables features such as saving progress, recording best scores, or sharing a game. Those features do not by themselves mean that players are in the same live session.
Which games were included?
The announcement named two titles:
- Ludo Club: a digital version of the familiar board game.
- Magic Tiles 3: a rhythm game built around tapping musical tiles.
YouTube confirmed the games were part of the test but did not spell out their multiplayer rules or establish that either mode became a permanent feature. Details such as matchmaking, friend-only rooms, or in-game chat should not be assumed from the announcement.

What Playables are and how to find them
Playables are games that run within YouTube’s app or website, without a separate game installation. YouTube’s May 2024 public announcement introduced the expanded catalog with more than 75 games, including Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask, and Trivia Crack. That was the catalog count at launch, not a current total.
To open a Playable, use the Playables shelf on Home or find Playables through Explore, Search, or saved games. Select a game card to launch it. YouTube’s general Help page explains how to access games, but it does not give a verified universal menu path for joining a multiplayer match. If a particular game currently offers multiplayer, look for the option within that game and follow its on-screen controls; labels and availability may vary.

Where Playables are supported
YouTube’s Playables Help page lists availability in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It also gives these requirements for Playables generally:
- Android: YouTube app version 20.46 or later and Android S or later. Some earlier Android devices have limited support, depending on 64-bit or high-memory 32-bit hardware.
- iOS: YouTube app version 20.44 or later and iOS 14 or later.
- Web: Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
These are Playables requirements, not proof that the multiplayer experiment is active in every listed country, app version, or browser. Experiment eligibility can differ from access to the games themselves.

Does Playables require YouTube Premium?
The current Help page lists supported devices, software, and an internet connection; it does not list Premium as a requirement. YouTube’s May 2024 announcement described the expanded Playables experience as free. That does not establish that every experimental multiplayer feature is available to every account, but there is no documented Premium requirement for Playables generally.
Is multiplayer still available in 2026?
Its current status is unconfirmed in YouTube’s public documentation. The Help page covers Playables availability, supported apps and browsers, saved progress, scores, and sharing, but does not publish a current multiplayer roster or confirm that the 2024 test became a permanent feature. YouTube has not publicly established whether the original two games still support multiplayer, whether other titles were added, or whether the test ended or expanded.

If you want to check whether the feature is available to you, open the specific game in YouTube and look for an in-game multiplayer option. YouTube’s documentation does not establish that every account, region, or supported device will see one.
If you cannot see a multiplayer option
- Check that Playables are available in your country, then confirm your app or browser meets YouTube’s listed requirements.
- Update the YouTube app, or try a current version of Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
- Open the specific game directly from Playables rather than relying only on a Home shelf or a saved link.
- Sign in to the YouTube account you intend to use, then inspect the game’s own menus and on-screen instructions.
- If possible, try another supported device. Seeing the game does not guarantee access to its multiplayer test.
- If the control remains absent, it may reflect title-specific or server-side experiment eligibility rather than a device fault. Reinstalling YouTube cannot be assumed to unlock a test controlled by YouTube’s servers.
Progress, history, and multiplayer safety
When signed in, Playables can save progress and best scores across supported devices. Playables activity can also appear in YouTube History, which users can manage or delete through their Google Account activity controls. See YouTube’s Playables Help page for its current details.

A live multiplayer mode may involve interactions beyond solo play, but YouTube’s announcement does not specify the communication or moderation features in either game. Parents and guardians should check the relevant account and YouTube supervision settings rather than assume a particular chat or safety model.
What the experiment means for game developers
The consumer-facing multiplayer test does not establish a public multiplayer SDK, matchmaking API, or open route for developers to publish multiplayer games on YouTube. Google’s Playables developer documentation describes web-based games and technologies including WebGL and Canvas-based environments, with examples such as Unity, Godot, Cocos, Construct, Phaser, PlayCanvas, BabylonJS, and three.js.
Developer access is described as early access or private-preview oriented and may involve invitations or additional agreements. Games also go through testing and certification before public launch; see the Developer Portal and certification requirements. Those materials do not document general-purpose multiplayer publishing support.

As an interpretation, live play could make short games more social and give users another reason to stay within YouTube instead of opening a separate gaming service. YouTube already has a large gaming audience and creator ecosystem, but the company has not published usage figures showing that Playables—or this multiplayer test—materially increased engagement. The experiment’s announcement alone does not establish a broader strategy or its results.
