If YouTube Live Control Room says “no encoder connected,” it is not recognizing an incoming stream for the broadcast you have selected. A stream key by itself does not start streaming: OBS must be actively sending video to the matching YouTube stream. Check OBS’s streaming state, the selected broadcast and its preview, then confirm the server URL, stream key and channel eligibility. The symptom alone does not identify one cause, and the available YouTube guidance does not establish an India-specific fix.
1. Confirm OBS is sending a stream—not just configured with a key
- In OBS, start streaming. Having a stream key saved in OBS does not send a feed. YouTube’s setup instructions require entering the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder, then starting the encoder. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Check OBS’s status. Confirm OBS shows that it is actively streaming, rather than merely being open or configured. If it is not sending, start the stream from OBS and check whether its status changes.
- Open the matching broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Look for the incoming-stream preview and read any displayed error or warning. Do not assume the key is wrong before checking what YouTube reports.
Starting the encoder and starting a scheduled YouTube broadcast are separate actions. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room and then click Go live. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
2. Make sure OBS and Live Control Room refer to the same stream
Compare the YouTube Live server URL and stream key entered in OBS with the values shown for the exact broadcast open in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder setup flow says to copy the stream URL and key from the stream and paste them into the encoder. A saved OBS setup can still be configured for a different broadcast—for example, if you selected a new stream in Studio but OBS retained an older key.
- Open the intended stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Copy that stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s setup screen.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream and check the service, server and key against the selected YouTube broadcast. Avoid sharing the key; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Save any corrected settings, start streaming in OBS again, and return to the same Live Control Room broadcast to check for a preview.
3. Check channel eligibility and activation
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Check your channel’s live-streaming access before spending time changing encoder settings. 4. Read YouTube’s exact stream warning
The Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check the incoming stream and can report problems with it. YouTube gives “encoder sending no audio” as an example of a stream error, so a warning may concern the feed rather than whether OBS has a key configured. Read the full message shown for your stream and address that specific issue. YouTube Help: Stream health and troubleshooting.
If OBS says it is streaming but Live Control Room still shows no preview, note the exact OBS state, selected broadcast, stream-health message and any error text. Those details are needed to distinguish a mismatched stream from an ingest or account issue; the symptom on its own is not enough to establish the cause.

Why the mention of India does not establish a regional cause
The YouTube guidance cited here does not identify an India-specific cause, server setting or workaround for “no encoder connected.” Being in India alone is not evidence that an ISP, local routing or regional restriction is responsible. First verify the selected stream, OBS’s active state, the matching URL and key, the preview and channel access. If those checks do not explain the status, use the exact error and OBS details when seeking support rather than assuming a regional fault.
