A wired Ethernet connection rules out Wi-Fi as one possible cause, but it does not guarantee that your PC can send a stable stream to YouTube. The problem may be the encoder’s output or settings, the computer’s workload, or the outbound internet path. Start with the exact timestamped warning in YouTube Live Control Room, then check your encoder and measured upload capacity before changing settings.
1. Read the exact YouTube stream-health warning
Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room and note the health message and its timestamp. YouTube’s Live Dashboard and Live Control Room display messages beside the Health Indicator. Red errors are critical and may prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems; yellow errors are moderate and may degrade quality. A general poor-connection warning is not proof that the Ethernet cable is defective.
Use the wording of the message to choose what to investigate. YouTube’s error guidance covers issues including bitrate, unsupported or mismatched codecs, audio or video stream formats, excessive frame rate, and keyframe frequency. Correct the setting named by the warning rather than changing unrelated encoder options. YouTube’s stream-health and error guidance.
2. Check what the encoder and PC are producing
Before blaming the network, inspect the encoder’s own preview or output. Check both picture and sound, look for encoder error messages, and check CPU load. If the picture or audio is already wrong locally, troubleshoot the source, encoder configuration, or computer load first; YouTube also suggests trying another encoder when appropriate. If local output looks and sounds healthy, continue to the outbound connection test.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Compare your stream settings with YouTube’s guidance
Bitrate needs to fit the codec, resolution, and frame rate you selected, as well as the upload connection available to the PC. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test and choosing a quality that is reliable for the connection. Its currently retrieved recommendations for H.264 include 14 Mbps at 1080p30, 17 Mbps at 1080p60, and 8 Mbps at both 720p30 and 720p60. These are YouTube’s configuration recommendations, not a universal minimum upload-speed threshold.
For the listed RTMP/RTMPS encoder configuration, YouTube specifies CBR, a keyframe frequency of 2 seconds (not over 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. The encoder-settings page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as video codec options. Recommendations can change, so consult YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the format you use. A speed test can help show whether your measured upload is comfortably above the configured stream bitrate; leave practical headroom for other network traffic rather than treating a barely higher test result as a guarantee.

4. Test the outbound connection and wired path
YouTube recommends testing outbound internet strength. If the test indicates a connection problem, contact your ISP. Ethernet only describes the connection between the PC and nearby network equipment; it does not establish that the router, cable, port, ISP connection, or rest of the outbound path is working properly.
For a low-cost wired-path check, reseat both ends of the Ethernet cable, try another router or switch port if one is available, and temporarily substitute a known-good cable. These are practical isolation steps, not a default reason to buy replacement hardware. YouTube’s mention of unplugging Ethernet in its live-stream tips concerns testing failover between primary and backup encoders, not a general poor-connection fix. See YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting guidance.

5. Test again under the real streaming workload
Before going live, test with representative motion and audio, review the Live Control Room preview, and monitor stream health during transmission. If the issue appears only during the full event workload, note its timestamp and compare it with encoder errors, CPU load, and any changes in network use. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video continuously during the event.
What the symptoms can tell you
- A specific bitrate, codec, format, frame-rate, or keyframe error: follow the warning and adjust the named encoder setting.
- Bad picture or sound in the encoder preview, or encoder errors and high CPU load: investigate the source, encoder, or PC before treating this as an Ethernet problem.
- Healthy local output but a failed outbound connection test: investigate the wired path and contact the ISP if the test shows a connection issue.
- Several viewers on different connections report trouble: YouTube notes that the encoder may be involved. That pattern is useful evidence, but it does not by itself identify a precise network fault.
Without the actual health message, encoder logs, PC details, and network measurements, it is not possible to identify which component is at fault. YouTube’s guidance does not establish how often Ethernet hardware causes these alerts or a single upload-speed threshold that works for every stream.
