A YouTube stream going offline does not, by itself, show that a space caused the failure. Check the playlist syntax and resolved file paths first, then use FFmpeg’s log and YouTube Studio’s ingest status to locate the failure.
Check the concat playlist syntax
The concat demuxer reads a text playlist, with one file directive per line. A filename containing a space can be written as a quoted path:
file 'clip one.mp4'FFmpeg’s formats documentation says spaces and other special characters in paths must be escaped with backslashes or enclosed in single quotes. Check the playlist as FFmpeg reads it, not just how the filename looks in a file browser.
- Make sure the opening and closing quote characters match.
- Check every character in the filename, including capitalization and extension.
- Confirm the path uses the correct separators for your environment.
- Verify that a relative path is interpreted from the directory where FFmpeg resolves it, and that the file exists there.
Check the optional header
If you want FFmpeg to recognize the format automatically, the optional header must be exactly ffconcat version 1.0 on the first line. It must not have extra spaces or a byte-order mark before it. If you include the header, check the actual file bytes as well as the visible text.

Use the log to find where the stream fails
Read the FFmpeg log from process start through the point where output stops or the process exits. Follow the sequence: playlist parsing, input opening, stream mapping, output writing, and network or ingest errors. This helps separate a playlist problem from a later streaming failure; without the command, log, and YouTube Studio status, the cause of a particular outage cannot be determined.
- Look for a parse error. If FFmpeg rejects the playlist, recheck the directive syntax, quotes, optional header, and line contents.
- Look for file-open errors. If an entry cannot be opened, verify its exact spelling, path separators, relative-path context, and existence.
- Confirm each intended input is opened. If the playlist parses but an expected input is missing, the log should help identify which entry failed.
- Check stream mapping. Confirm FFmpeg maps the expected streams from the inputs.
- Check output and network messages. If inputs open and mapping is as expected, but writing or the network fails, the filename spaces are not enough to explain the outage. Compare the FFmpeg output messages with YouTube Studio’s ingest status.
For a useful diagnosis, retain the playlist text, full FFmpeg command, FFmpeg version and build, operating system, relevant log excerpt, and YouTube Studio ingest state. Those details distinguish a confirmed syntax or file-access error from an unresolved broadcast interruption.

Check input compatibility and timestamps
Correct quoting is only one requirement. The concat demuxer expects the inputs to have the same streams, codecs, and time bases. Compare their stream layouts if the playlist parses and every file opens but the resulting output is malformed or discontinuous.
The demuxer adjusts timestamps so each file starts after the preceding file. FFmpeg warns that inaccurate duration information can cause artifacts between entries. If the log points to timestamp or muxing problems, inspect the input durations and the resulting output messages. These issues can affect output, but they do not establish that YouTube marks a broadcast offline for that reason.

Choose a concat method for the media
Do not switch concat methods just because a filename has a space. First fix the playlist syntax. The methods have different compatibility conditions:
