A wired connection from a computer to a hotspot router can improve the local link, but it cannot fix a problem on the Jio cellular connection itself. Without details such as the device, location, signal behavior and error messages, there is no reliable way to identify the cause of a particular disconnect.
What to check first when a Jio hotspot stream disconnects
A speed test’s download result does not tell you whether the connection can sustain a live stream. YouTube notes that download speed is often higher than upload speed and recommends allowing about 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate. A single fast test is not proof that an uplink will remain stable around the clock. YouTube’s streaming tips explain its guidance on capacity and network reliability.
Record what happens at the moment of failure. The timestamp and the exact messages from both the encoder and YouTube help distinguish a local encoding issue from an outbound connection problem. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder and the outbound internet connection rather than assuming every interruption has the same cause.
- Note the interruption time and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health or error message.
- Check whether the encoder reports dropped frames, network congestion, disconnection or an encoding error.
- Observe whether the encoder preview remains normal and whether CPU load or an encoder error changes at the same time.
- Keep a local recording when your encoder supports it, so an interruption does not also erase the recording.
YouTube’s Android stream-metrics help page describes stream-health information. Check the Live Control Room while testing, and preserve the relevant messages rather than relying on memory after a failure.

Measure the uplink and choose a conservative bitrate
Test upload capacity at the same location and time of day as the stream. Repeat during both busier and quieter periods, and test with the full streaming setup running. Use sustained results—not the best number from one brief test—to choose settings. YouTube recommends roughly 20% headroom beyond the stream bitrate; if a primary and backup stream are both using the connection, account for both. See YouTube’s network guidance.
For H.264, YouTube’s published encoder table gives these reference figures. They are platform recommendations, not measurements of what your Jio connection can sustain. Check the current table for the precise resolution, frame rate and codec you plan to use: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

These figures are not a target to use regardless of conditions. If measured upload fluctuates, start with a lower resolution, frame rate or bitrate that leaves comfortable headroom, then test it under representative conditions. A bitrate that fits a quiet-period speed test may still be too high when the cellular uplink is less reliable.
Run an unlisted rehearsal before relying on the stream
Test the complete configuration before making it a 24/7 setup. YouTube recommends starting the encoder early, checking the preview and stream quality, and testing backup-encoder failover. A rehearsal helps expose problems but does not prove that a stream will recover seamlessly from a cellular outage. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- Set the broadcast to unlisted for the rehearsal.
- Start the encoder early enough to confirm that YouTube receives the feed and displays its preview.
- Watch the encoder’s status and YouTube’s stream health together. Record any warnings and their timestamps.
- Let the rehearsal run through the conditions that usually coincide with a disconnect, if you can identify them.
- If you have a backup encoder or connection, deliberately test its failover rather than assuming it works.
For mobile streaming, YouTube gives about 10 MB per minute as a rule of thumb; actual data use varies with bitrate and stream conditions. It is not a substitute for measuring upload stability. Details are in YouTube’s filming tips for live streams.
What a wired connection can—and cannot—fix
YouTube recommends Ethernet for streaming from a computer. If your hotspot router has an Ethernet port and your computer can use one, a Cat6 cable can connect them and avoid relying on Wi-Fi for that local hop. This only addresses the connection between the router and computer: it does not improve the cellular signal, tower capacity, Jio routing or hotspot-plan conditions. Do not assume a different router, antenna, SIM or plan will solve the issue before you have identified the failure point. The right comparison is based on sustained upload, jitter or packet loss at your actual location, cellular handoffs and congestion, Ethernet availability, power and thermal behavior, SIM and plan compatibility, and tested failover. No specific Jio device compatibility or comparative performance is established here.

If the encoder reports an error or its output becomes abnormal
Check the encoder’s own logs and preview at the recorded failure time. Look for dropped frames, encoder errors and changes in CPU load. If the local output is not healthy, address the encoder or computer issue before treating the cellular network as the cause. Preserve a local recording if available.

If the encoder looks healthy but the outbound connection fails
Repeat upload tests at the same place and time, including while the full setup is running. Save results and timestamps, then share them with Jio support. YouTube advises contacting the internet provider when connection testing indicates a problem; see its live-stream troubleshooting steps.
If the stream fails only under some conditions
Compare the time of each failure with stream-health messages and repeat tests across busier and quieter periods. The evidence may help isolate a pattern, but it does not by itself establish whether the cause is radio signal fluctuation, congestion, a handoff, device temperature or power, plan conditions, or encoder configuration. Those details need to be checked rather than guessed.

A stable connection does not guarantee that a stream complies with YouTube’s policies or is eligible for monetization.
