Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To stream bhajans from OBS to YouTube, create or select a stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream key into OBS, and use a tested encoder setup. Keep the key private: it functions like a password. For a 24/7 broadcast, OBS settings alone cannot guarantee the computer, internet connection, rights clearance, or YouTube feed will stay uninterrupted.
What the YouTube stream key does
YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” The key lets OBS send video and audio to the stream configured in YouTube Studio. Treat it as a credential: do not share it, publish it, or include it in screenshots. YouTube supports custom keys for reuse; if a key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Connect YouTube Studio to OBS
- Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, then use the Live Control Room’s Stream tab. Create a stream or select the one you intend to use, and locate its stream key and stream URL.
- Enter the credentials in OBS. In OBS, choose YouTube or YouTube RTMPS as the service if that option is available in your installed version. Otherwise, use the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s stream settings. The exact OBS labels can vary by version and operating system; consult the OBS Knowledge Base for current product help. YouTube’s encoder instructions identify the stream URL as the encoder’s server field and the key as its stream-key field: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start output and check the right stream. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for YouTube’s incoming preview, then confirm the selected stream, visibility, audio, and picture in Live Control Room before making it public or treating it as live. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and watching Stream Health and its messages. See YouTube’s encoder settings and monitoring guidance.
- Verify before relying on unattended operation. Confirm the watch page works and inspect the stream on the channel or a mobile device. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options can let the encoder start or stop a stream, but test their behavior on the specific stream; they do not keep a computer powered, repair a network connection, or clear music rights.
OBS encoder settings: a conservative starting point
YouTube’s published recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec. The values below are a practical starting point, not a special bhajan preset or a promise of quality or uptime. Check YouTube’s full current table for the exact output you choose. Its H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 720p30, 8 Mbps for 720p60, 5 Mbps for 1080p30, and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of your connection.
| Setting | Starting point | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS when supported | YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection in transit. |
| Video codec | H.264 for a broadly supported baseline | YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for supported configurations. |
| Rate control | CBR | Set the streaming output to constant bitrate. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps for a mostly static devotional visual | YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Choosing 30 fps here is a low-demand practical choice, not a YouTube bhajan-specific recommendation. |
| Video bitrate | Choose from YouTube’s table for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec | For H.264, YouTube’s recommendations include 5 Mbps at 720p30, 8 Mbps at 720p60, 5 Mbps at 1080p30, and 12 Mbps at 1080p60. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz | Listen to the actual stream for clean, steady levels and distortion before broadcast. |
These encoder recommendations are from YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. A still image may require less visual detail than fast-moving video, but do not assume a lower bitrate is YouTube-approved without checking the relevant table.

Plan the connection and test for continuity
YouTube recommends keeping total streaming bitrate within available upload bandwidth, with about 20% headroom. This is platform guidance, not an uptime guarantee. Measure the upload capacity available during the hours you expect to stream; other devices and traffic can reduce it. YouTube also warns that network disruption can break a stream. Ethernet is an optional way to address Wi-Fi variability, not a YouTube requirement or guaranteed fix. Read YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Test using the actual bhajan audio, visual, encoder settings, and network you intend to use.
- Check YouTube’s incoming preview, the watch page, and Stream Health rather than assuming OBS’s “streaming” status proves viewers receive a healthy feed.
- Watch for dropped frames, audio gaps, connection warnings, and unexpected changes in picture or sound during a representative test.
- If running from a computer, account for its power, updates, heat, storage, network stability, and the possibility that it or OBS will need attention. A key and encoder configuration do not keep the workstation healthy unattended.
Decide how to handle a continuous broadcast and its archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours will produce a complete, intact YouTube replay. If retaining the full program matters, consider scheduling shorter sessions or use a separately validated local recording process, then check and retain the resulting files. Breaking a schedule into shorter sessions is an operational choice based on YouTube’s archive statement, not a platform requirement. The archive guidance appears in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Check channel eligibility and clear the actual bhajan assets
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its getting-started guidance gives a minimum age of 16 to livestream. Check eligibility before treating a disabled or blocked broadcast as an OBS configuration problem. See Get started with live streaming.
Clear recordings, performances, compositions, and visuals
A devotional genre does not establish permission to broadcast a track. Confirm the rights for each actual sound recording, performance, composition or arrangement where relevant, and visual asset. Check that permissions cover livestreaming and any replay or archive use. YouTube’s general rules prohibit infringing content, but they do not determine whether a particular recording is cleared. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Troubleshoot common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS cannot connect or YouTube receives no feed | The selected stream, server URL, or key may not match. | Compare OBS’s service/server and key with the stream settings for the intended Live Control Room stream. If the key was reset, enter the replacement key in OBS. |
| The key may have been exposed | Someone else may be able to use the credential. | Reset the key in Live Control Room, then update OBS with the new one. Do not keep using a key you believe is compromised. |
| OBS is sending, but viewers see a warning or poor feed | Encoder output, connection capacity, or stream health may be at fault. | Check YouTube’s preview and Stream Health messages; verify the chosen bitrate against sustained upload capacity and test with the real audio and motion. |
| The stream starts or stops unexpectedly | Auto-start or auto-stop behavior may differ from what you expect. | Review those controls in the specific stream’s settings and test them before unattended use. |
| The expected replay is missing or incomplete | The continuous stream may have exceeded YouTube’s stated automatic archive limit. | For future broadcasts, plan shorter sessions or use a separate validated recording workflow and verify saved files. |
| YouTube does not allow the channel to stream | Eligibility or a live-streaming restriction may apply. | Check channel verification, age eligibility, and restriction status using YouTube’s live-streaming guidance. |
