ZOTAC ZONE Release Date Rumors & Leaked Specs: What’s Confirmed in 2026?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The original ZOTAC GAMING ZONE is already released. ZOTAC announced preorders in select regions on August 19, 2024, and the retail handheld uses an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, Radeon 780M graphics, 16GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory, a 512GB SSD and a 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display. The current uncertainty is regional stock and a possible successor—not the first ZONE’s existence.

ZOTAC showed a newer Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 prototype at Computex 2025, but has not announced a commercial “ZONE 2” release date, final specifications or price.

Is the ZOTAC ZONE still unreleased?

No. The first-generation ZOTAC ZONE launched as a 2024 product. ZOTAC’s August 19, 2024 announcement described preorder availability through selected regions and e-tailers, rather than one worldwide retail date. That distinction explains why older pages still call it “coming soon.”

The device was shown at Computex in June 2024, demonstrated publicly at Gamescom from August 21–25, and production reviews began appearing in September 2024. A September date sometimes quoted online should therefore be treated as a regional or retailer milestone, not a universal global launch date.

How accurate were the leaked specifications?

Prelaunch reports, including VideoCardz’s report, identified the Ryzen 7 8840U, Radeon 780M-class graphics, 7-inch 1080p AMOLED panel, 120Hz refresh rate, 16GB memory and premium pricing. Those central platform details became official.

Reports also pointed to Hall-effect controls, radial dials, trackpads, adjustable triggers and a front camera—features present in the retail design. Early connectivity, dimensions and pricing should still be considered provisional until they appear in a final specification sheet. A leak repeated by several outlets is not confirmation by itself.

What makes the ZONE different?

AMOLED display

The 7-inch 1080p 120Hz AMOLED panel is the handheld’s clearest differentiator. Individually lit pixels allow deep blacks, HDR is supported and the rated brightness reaches 800 nits. A 120Hz mode can make scrolling and supported games look smoother. The trade-off is workload: rendering at 1920×1080 generally requires more GPU power than 1280×800 screens used by some rivals.

Valve Steam Deck OLED 1TB Handheld Gaming Console
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
  • Wi-Fi 6E
  • 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
  • Carrying case with removable liner

ZOTAC marketed it as the first Windows handheld with an AMOLED display at the time; that is a time-qualified company claim, not a permanent statement about every handheld category. See ZOTAC’s feature page.

Controls and sensors

The ZONE combines Hall-effect thumbsticks and triggers with two-stage adjustable triggers, dual radial adjustment dials, dual trackpads, two programmable rear grip buttons, a six-axis gyroscope and haptic feedback. This layout can suit mouse-like pointer control, strategy games and users who want extensive remapping. It also contributes to the device’s 692g weight and a more complex setup than a conventional gamepad layout.

Ports, storage and expansion

Two USB4 ports can connect displays, docks, external storage and peripherals. The full-size M.2 2280 SSD is replaceable, while the 16GB system memory is soldered. That is the practical upgrade boundary: storage can be expanded or replaced, but RAM capacity cannot.

The UHS-II microSD reader is specified for a faster interface than ordinary UHS-I readers; actual results depend on the card and workload. ZOTAC also announced a dock with additional ports and an interface for an extra NVMe SSD, plus a carrying case, through its launch materials.

Battery, performance and ownership trade-offs

The 48.5Wh battery is modest beside the 80Wh battery in the ASUS ROG Ally X, a comparison highlighted by PC Gamer. A bright 1080p 120Hz panel and an APU configurable up to 28W can consume that capacity quickly. Longer sessions may require lowering brightness, refresh rate, resolution or TDP.

Ryzen 7 8840U and Radeon 780M performance varies substantially with TDP, plugged-in versus battery operation, resolution, upscaling, frame generation, drivers, thermals and the game engine. ZOTAC references AMD Fluid Motion Frames and FidelityFX Super Resolution, but these features can involve image-quality, latency or compatibility compromises. The hardware should not be presented as a guarantee of high settings at native 1080p in every AAA game.

Price and regional availability

Hardware coverage reported an approximately $799 launch/preorder price; Tom’s Hardware is one such report. That figure is not a universal current MSRP. Taxes, currency, retailer stock, clearance discounts and bundles can change the price by country.

Before buying, verify that the seller is authorized, the return period is clear and warranty service is available in your region. The official store category is ZOTAC’s U.S. handheld store page, but it should not be treated as proof of live stock everywhere.

What is the “ZONE 2” rumor?

At Computex 2025, ZOTAC showed an updated ZONE prototype using AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and a Manjaro Linux-based handheld operating system. The company’s official showcase confirms the prototype, not a shipping product.

Claim Status
A first-generation ZONE is coming soon Outdated; it launched in 2024
Retail ZONE uses Ryzen 7 8840U and a 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display Confirmed by ZOTAC’s retail specifications
The ZONE costs $799 everywhere Incorrect; approximately $799 was a reported launch/preorder price
A product officially named “ZONE 2” has a launch date Unverified
A newer ZONE prototype uses Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Confirmed prototype configuration
The prototype will ship with Manjaro Linux Not confirmed for retail
The successor has 32GB RAM, a larger battery or a particular screen Unverified
ZOTAC has confirmed a 2026 launch No supporting official announcement identified

There is currently no official commercial name, final retail specification sheet, price or release date for that successor. The prototype’s Linux software also does not change the original retail model’s operating system: the first-generation ZONE ships with Windows 11 Home.

ZONE versus the main alternatives

Handheld Where the ZONE differs Best reason to consider it
ZOTAC ZONE 7-inch 1080p 120Hz AMOLED, 48.5Wh battery, 16GB fixed RAM, dual trackpads and extensive controls Display quality and control flexibility
ASUS ROG Ally X Larger battery; conventional control layout and a different display approach Longer-play-session potential
Steam Deck OLED SteamOS ecosystem and lower-end hardware; not a direct Windows or 8840U equivalent Console-like software experience and value
Lenovo Legion Go Larger display and detachable controllers; heavier and not an AMOLED equivalent Large-screen play and detachable controls
AYANEO handhelds Many premium form factors, with varying prices, software support and warranty terms Broader hardware choice

Should you buy the original ZONE or wait?

Buy now when

  • You prioritize AMOLED contrast, HDR and 120Hz motion over maximum battery life.
  • You specifically want dual trackpads, radial dials, Hall-effect controls or rear buttons.
  • You find the first-generation unit at a substantial discount with strong local warranty and return support.
  • You are comfortable tuning Windows handheld settings and accepting fixed 16GB memory.

Wait when

  • You want newer Ryzen AI hardware or more than 16GB of memory.
  • Battery endurance is more important than the AMOLED display.
  • You want a Linux-first experience and are willing to wait for a product that may never be announced.
  • You are unwilling to pay premium first-generation pricing without confirmed regional support.

Waiting is not a guarantee of a better product: ZOTAC has demonstrated a prototype, not committed to a retail successor.

Timeline of confirmed events

  • June 2024: ZOTAC showcased the ZONE concept at Computex.
  • August 19, 2024: Finalized ZONE and select-region preorder availability were announced.
  • August 21–25, 2024: Public Gamescom demonstrations were scheduled.
  • September 2024: Production review coverage appeared, including a Hardwareluxx review dated September 13.
  • April 9, 2025: ZOTAC announced One Launcher 2.0 software for the ZONE through its news archive.
  • May 2025: A Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Manjaro-based prototype was shown at Computex.
  • August 18, 2026: No official successor release date, final retail specifications or price had been announced in the cited materials.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The ZOTAC ZONE is a real 2024 handheld, and its Ryzen 7 8840U, 16GB onboard memory, 512GB SSD and 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED specification are confirmed. Treat $799 as a launch-price reference, not a universal current price. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 device shown in 2025 is a prototype; there is still no confirmed “ZONE 2” release date, final specification or price.
