What is 007 First Light about?
The game follows Bond as he moves from Royal Navy air crewman to MI6 recruit. The 00 Programme has been revived, and Bond’s recruitment is the start of a story about proving he belongs in it—not a tale about an already established 007.
IO Interactive describes the game as a standalone, original reimagining of Bond’s origin. Its June 2025 announcement called it “a standalone original, re-imagined origin story of a young James Bond” (IO Interactive’s announcement, June 4, 2025). The story offers its own interpretation; the announcement does not establish detailed continuity with particular films or books.
How old is Bond, and what is his role?
Bond is 26. IO Interactive’s launch announcement describes him as “a promising yet sometimes reckless Royal Navy air crewman” recruited into MI6’s elite 00 Programme (IO Interactive’s launch notice, May 27, 2026). His youth and impulsiveness are part of the premise: he has potential, but still has to earn his standing as a spy.

How does the game play?
007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure that combines stealth and action. IO Interactive says it blends the studio’s stealth and action mechanics with the world of Bond and MI6 (IO Interactive’s announcement). That describes the broad format; the announcement does not specify a detailed mission structure or a complete list of mechanics.
When did 007 First Light launch, and what platforms are listed?
IO Interactive announced a global launch on May 27, 2026. Its launch notice lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon.com, Steam, and the Epic Games Store as availability channels (IO Interactive’s launch notice).

Nintendo Switch 2 status
IO Interactive’s September 2025 gameplay reveal had announced Nintendo Switch 2 as a planned platform, alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (IO Interactive’s gameplay reveal, September 3, 2025). Switch 2 is not included in the later launch notice’s platform list, so those announcements alone do not establish whether the game is currently available for that console. Check an official current platform or store listing before relying on Switch 2 availability.

The launch notice says Lana Del Rey and David Arnold co-wrote the official theme song, performed by Del Rey. It is a notable part of the launch, though the game’s central premise remains Bond’s recruitment and his effort to earn a place in the 00 Programme.
