10 Best C.A.M.P. Locations in Fallout 76—and How to Choose Yours

There is no verified, universally best C.A.M.P. spot in Fallout 76: the right location depends on what you build, which resources you need, and where you travel. These ten options are useful starting points, not an official ranking. Before moving a camp, check the live map and test the exact placement area; a promising landmark or nearby deposit does not guarantee that a C.A.M.P. can be placed there.

How to choose a C.A.M.P. location

Compare a candidate site on four practical criteria:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Convenience: Is it near an early-game landmark or a discovered place you already visit? Bethesda says discovered locations appear on the map for fast travel at a Caps cost; Vault 76, Foundation, The Crater, and Fort Atlas are listed as free destinations in its newcomer guide.
  • Resources and water: Check the exact ground for the deposit or water access you want. A resource being somewhere in the surrounding area does not establish that it is within your C.A.M.P. build area or usable by an extractor.
  • Terrain and scenery: Consider whether the site suits your preferred building style, whether you want a remote view or a familiar landmark nearby, and whether the terrain works for your planned layout.
  • Camp role: Decide whether you want a personal production base, a place to display a build, or a public-facing vendor camp. These goals can point to different locations.

Bethesda introduced Relaxed Build Rules in Adventure Mode in its September 2, 2025 C.A.M.P. Revamp announcement, saying the update reduced placement restrictions. That is a reason to test older build advice in the current game, not a guarantee that every restricted spot is now valid.

10 C.A.M.P. location ideas

The locations below adapt suggestions from a September 26, 2026 TimeSaver.gg location guide. Its proposed benefits are leads to check in-game, not independently established measurements or an objective ranking.

1. Flatwoods area — a Forest starting point

Consider this area if you want a base in the Forest and are still learning the map. The guide suggests river access and proximity to Vault 76, but neither makes a specific nearby plot suitable automatically. Check the precise building area, water placement, and current map before settling on a site.

2. The Wayward area — stay near an early-story landmark

This is an option if you want to keep your camp near a location associated with early exploration. The guide presents it as a place with quest traffic, but visitor volume was not independently measured. Choose it for the landmark and convenience you value, not on a promise of customer footfall.

3. Near the Overseer’s initial camp — prioritize early exploration

A camp in this general area may suit a new character who wants to remain close to an early exploration point. The guide describes nearby flat ground and a stream; those details have not been independently confirmed here. Inspect the actual terrain and test placement before planning a layout around them.

4. Lucky Hole Mine area — investigate a resource-focused build

Consider the area if resource access is central to your plan. The guide claims nearby lead and crystal veins, but does not establish that a particular deposit falls inside a valid personal C.A.M.P. build area or will support an extractor. Verify both the deposit and placement eligibility in-game before committing.

5. The Mire — for a remote setting or resource hunt

The Mire may appeal if you prefer a more remote-feeling camp or are looking for a resource-oriented site. The guide points to acid deposits near flooded farmland east of Harpers Ferry, but exact coordinates and extractor access were not verified. Treat the suggestion as a place to investigate, not a confirmed production location.

6. Grafton Steel Yard area — distinguish a camp from a workshop

This Toxic Valley area may interest players who are exploring public-workshop options. A personal C.A.M.P. does not automatically gain access to a workshop’s deposits. Bethesda describes workshops as public locations players can take over to build, craft, and mine deposits in its newcomer guide; that is a separate activity from placing your own camp.

7. A Forest river or lake — build with water nearby

If water is part of your design or production plans, look for a Forest site beside a river or lake and check the exact placement options. The guide suggests purifier potential, but whether a specific plot supports your intended setup depends on the water and build area you can actually use.

8. Whitespring Station or Resort vicinity — test a prominent landmark

This may suit a player who wants a recognizable destination nearby. The guide claims high vendor traffic and free-hub benefits, but the traffic claim was not independently measured and the official pages reviewed do not confirm the Resort’s current fast-travel status. Treat the area as a candidate to test, not a guaranteed source of visitors or free travel.

9. Sutton or Summersville — consider a central Forest feel

These areas are candidates if you want a Forest setting around familiar settlements. The guide suggests route visibility and mid-game foot traffic, but no independent visitor data was established. Pick the location for its map position and terrain if those suit you; do not assume traffic will translate into vendor sales.

10. Beside a resource deposit you have verified — choose by need, not name

Instead of selecting a famous landmark first, identify the resource you want and check whether its deposit is actually inside an eligible C.A.M.P. area. Bethesda’s workshop guidance concerns public workshops, while the location guide’s extractor suggestions concern resource-specific deposits. Confirm the deposit identity and personal C.A.M.P. eligibility in the live game before designing around expected output.

Use C.A.M.P. slots to try different roles

Bethesda Support says players can use C.A.M.P. slots to keep multiple builds, but only one C.A.M.P. can be active at a time; stored camps do not produce resources. See Bethesda Support’s C.A.M.P. Slots guidance for the slot mechanics. That makes it practical to maintain different builds for different purposes, but a stored production camp will not keep generating resources while another camp is active.

  1. Choose your priority: Decide whether convenience, verified resources or water, terrain, or a public-facing build matters most.
  2. Inspect the live map: Check the location and nearby destinations in your current game. Fast travel to discovered places costs Caps except for the free destinations Bethesda lists: Vault 76, Foundation, The Crater, and Fort Atlas.
  3. Test the exact plot: Try the placement area before investing in a large layout. A broad location suggestion does not prove that the specific ground is buildable.
  4. Verify any planned resource setup: Confirm the deposit is the resource you need and that it is within a personal C.A.M.P. area where your intended equipment can be placed.
  5. Recheck older advice against current rules: Relaxed Build Rules arrived in Adventure Mode with the September 2025 C.A.M.P. Revamp, but the announcement does not list every eligible coordinate.
