| Super Mario Odyssey | Nintendo Switch | Inventive 3D movement and frequent gameplay ideas | Mario’s longer, open-ended kingdoms replace Astro’s more tightly staged planetary levels |
| Super Mario Galaxy | Wii; available in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection for Switch | Imaginative, discrete platforming stages | Its defining draw is gravity-bending, planet-scale platforming rather than Astro’s PlayStation-themed collectathon structure |
| Astro’s Playroom | PS5 | Astro’s movement, cheerful presentation, and PlayStation references | It is an earlier, smaller Astro adventure |
| Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart | PS5, PC | Colorful action, platforming, and a PlayStation setting | It gives more weight to combat and action-adventure progression |
| A Hat in Time | PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC | 3D platforming, hidden items, and collectathon exploration | Its larger cartoon world and hat-based powers shape a more traditional collectathon |

| Sackboy: A Big Adventure | PS5, PS4, PC | Cheerful platforming and imaginative stages | Its strongest distinction is cooperative play |
| Psychonauts 2 | PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC | Levels that introduce distinct ideas and visual themes | It is a story-driven adventure with a more unusual, sometimes darker tone |
| Yooka-Replaylee | Platform availability varies; check the current listing for your region | Collectathon exploration and revisiting a colorful world | Its focus is broad exploration and collecting rather than a sequence of compact Astro-style levels |
| Ape Escape | PlayStation; later availability depends on the version and region | Gadget-led platforming and playful objectives | It is a historical PlayStation game centered on capturing monkeys, with controls designed around dual analog sticks |
The first nine recommendations appear in a recent editorial comparison updated September 30, 2026; that source calls Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Galaxy close matches, a judgment rather than a technical equivalence. Ape Escape is included for its historical PlayStation connection: PlayStation Blog describes its dual-analog movement and monkey-catching play.

If you want to stay on PS5, these are the most direct options in the list. Each preserves a different part of Astro’s appeal rather than recreating the whole experience.
#1 Best Overall
- Face thrilling, unpredictable challenges as you explore distinctive hand-crafted lands through deeply immersive and expressive controls.
- PERILOUS PLATFORMING EXPERIENCE - Explore here, there and everywhere as you utilize Sackboy’s cool, diverse move-set to face a huge variety of thrilling challenges, fierce enemies and startling surprises.

- Astro’s Playroom: The natural next step if you want more time with Astro. PlayStation lists it among Astro’s earlier adventures on the official Astro Bot page.
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: Pick it for energetic PlayStation action with platforming, while expecting more emphasis on combat and adventure.
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure: Choose it for a cheerful platformer that is especially appealing if you want cooperative play.
- A Hat in Time: A good fit when collecting and exploring matter more than platform-specific callbacks. PlayStation Blog describes its Time Pieces, hidden items, cartoon world, and powers earned through hats.
- Ape Escape: A distinctly different, older PlayStation option for gadget-based stages and dual-analog movement. Check which version is available to you before buying.
How to choose the right Astro Bot alternative
For inventive movement and platforming
Try Super Mario Odyssey if you want a steady stream of movement ideas and 3D platforming. Its kingdoms are more open-ended than Astro’s individual planets, so it suits players who like room to explore as much as a carefully paced run through a stage. The comparison source describes it as the closest match; treat that as an editorial preference, not a guarantee that the games feel identical.
Super Mario Galaxy is the better fit if compact, imaginative platforming stages are the main attraction. It changes the physical rules of platforming with its gravity-focused environments, making it a strong thematic neighbor even though its structure and setting differ.
Rank #2
- 50 Exciting Levels: Explore iconic locations from the Dog Man universe, including the City Hall, Giant Marshmallow Factory, and the Police Station. Each location offers platforming and puzzle-solving challenges.
- Teamwork: Switch between Dog Man and his Supa Buddies, each with their own special abilities, to overcome obstacles and defeat bosses. o Dog Man: Digs underground and glides through the air. o Li’l Petey: Hacks gadgets and fits into small spaces. o 80-HD: Pushes heavy objects and jumps long distances.
- Fun Gadgets: Unlock new gadgets and abilities as you progress, like a grappling hook, rocket boots and power gloves to navigate through the levels. Puzzles and Bosses: Use your brain to solve puzzles and defeat unique bosses. Each boss fight requires clever use of your team’s abilities.
- Humor and Action: Enjoy funny dialogue, amusing interactions, and non-stop action that keeps you engaged in Dog Man’s world. Rewards and Collectibles: Revisit levels with new gadgets to find secret areas, and rescue the missing Comic Club members.
- Art Style: Great animations inspired by the books, with comic-style sound effects that add a fun, cartoonish touch to the action.
For exploration and collectibles
A Hat in Time and Yooka-Replaylee put collectathon exploration near the center of play. In A Hat in Time, PlayStation Blog highlights the search for Time Pieces and hidden items, plus hat powers that open up different abilities. Yooka-Replaylee is the pick if you specifically want a collectathon built around exploring and revisiting a colorful world; its appeal is less about Astro’s compact level-to-level surprises.

For a gentler or more social platformer
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is suited to players who want approachable 3D platforming and frequent small inventions, with a kinder challenge profile than a precision-focused platformer. For co-op, try Sackboy: A Big Adventure; its cooperative strength is the key reason to choose it over a closer solo-platforming match.

For unusual stages or PlayStation history
Psychonauts 2 is worth a look if you value levels built around distinct ideas and settings. Its story and tone are more prominent and less uniformly sunny than Astro’s, so approach it as an imaginative adventure rather than a clone. Ape Escape offers a different kind of novelty: a PlayStation-era platformer whose dual-analog control and gadget-based monkey-catching give it a clear historical connection to the platform’s game design.
