If you want the closest games to Little Nightmares, start with Inside, Limbo, DARQ, or Bramble: The Mountain King. Each pairs an unsettling world with environmental puzzles and platforming; some add stealth or horror encounters. For the same child-in-danger feeling from a different viewpoint, try Among the Sleep. The remaining picks keep parts of the appeal while changing the tone or gameplay.

What makes a game feel like Little Nightmares?

Bandai Namco calls Little Nightmares a “dark whimsical tale” about Six trying to escape the Maw, a vessel inhabited by corrupted souls. Its official description emphasizes exploring rooms, puzzling out their dangers, and surviving their residents. That mix—not simply horror—is the useful guide to choosing what to play next. Bandai Namco’s official game page lists the game for PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch.

The closest matches below share several of these traits: a vulnerable protagonist, eerie atmosphere, platforming, environmental puzzles, and sometimes stealth. Others are included because they preserve one or two ingredients while deliberately moving away from the scares or side-scrolling structure. The descriptions and platform lists are based on GameSpot’s recommendation coverage, not firsthand testing; check regional store listings for current editions and availability. The closest games to Little Nightmares

1. Inside — closest overall match

Inside is the strongest first stop if you want a child protagonist moving through an unsettling world, with 2D platforming and environmental puzzles at the center. Its eerie visuals and ambient score help create a tense, wordless atmosphere. It is also Playdead’s follow-up to Limbo, another close match on this list.

Little Nightmares Complete Edition (Nintendo Switch)

  • A SPOOKY PUZZLE PLATFORMER: Trapped in an oversized dollhouse inhabited by monstrous residents, light your way through darkness, hide & sneak to avoid danger and run for your life to find a way out.
  • REKINDLE YOUR CHILDHOOD FEARS: Each room is a cell, each resident a threat, and both are puzzles to untangle. Find your inner child and bend your imagination to find the way out.
  • TAILORED TO THE DEVICE: Undock your Nintendo Switch and continue your delectably dangerous journey everywhere, anytime with full HD rumble support for the Joy-Con controllers for a more immersive experience.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PC, Mac, and iOS.

2. Limbo — stark, monochrome puzzle horror

In Limbo, a young boy searches for his sister in a dangerous forest. Its black-and-white presentation and physics-based environmental puzzles make it a leaner, more stripped-down fit than Little Nightmares. Choose it for a similarly vulnerable protagonist and lethal-feeling puzzle spaces, rather than a direct copy of the Maw’s setting.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Mac, Android, and iOS.

3. DARQ — dream logic, stealth, and warped spaces

DARQ follows Lloyd, trapped in a lucid dream. Its gloomy environments, stealth, and puzzles built around walking on walls or rotating rooms make it a good pick if you want the world itself to feel unstable. It shares the unsettling puzzle-platforming appeal while leaning more heavily into surreal perspective tricks.

Little Nightmares Enhanced Complete Edition (PlayStation 5)
  • OBSERVE YOUR SURROUNDINGS - You wake up in a damp, dark room. Your sole possession is a brass lighter. You have no memory of how you got here, but it’s clear that you are in danger. Only your keen eyes and quick wits can get you out in one piece.
  • FIND AN ESCAPE ROUTE - This world is not meant for children, but you can use your stature as an advantage with a bit of imagination. Climb drawers and shelves to find child-sized passageways through The Maw too tiny for the adults to reach and you’ll be safe… at least for a while.
  • AVOID THE RESIDENTS - The inhabitants of the Maw have only one use for children, and it’s never pretty. Children who don’t want to get caught should stay hidden and move carefully when they’re around. Under certain circumstances, a distraction might avert their attention long enough for you to scuttle away scott-free. Be careful, if you accidentally make too much noise, the Residents are quite determined once you’ve caught their eye.
  • RUN FOR YOUR LIFE - Sometimes, there’s no other choice but to run. If you can stay alive long enough to get somewhere the Residents can’t reach you, you might survive.
  • Can you make it through the Maw to freedom? Six is counting on you. Good luck, little one.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

4. Bramble: The Mountain King — folklore horror and monsters

Bramble: The Mountain King sends a boy through a horror-filled journey inspired by Scandinavian folklore as he searches for his kidnapped sister. Alongside puzzles and platforming, it includes hiding, monster encounters, and occasional combat. Pick it if you want a storybook-like world that turns much more directly toward creatures and danger.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

5. Among the Sleep — a toddler’s first-person nightmare

Among the Sleep keeps the child-in-danger premise, but changes the camera and scale: you explore from the perspective of a two-year-old, solving puzzles while searching for your mother. GameSpot describes it as creepy and foreboding but lighter on true scares than its premise might suggest. It is a natural choice if the vulnerable child viewpoint matters more to you than side-scrolling platforming.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

6. FAR: Changing Tides — solitude without horror

FAR: Changing Tides is an atmospheric 2D sidescroller, but it is not a horror game. You maintain and sail a ship through a hostile, flooded world, with environmental puzzles breaking up the journey. Choose it for melancholy, isolation, and a distinctive world—not for the scares or pursuit sequences of Little Nightmares.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

7. Planet of Lana — a brighter sci-fi alternative

Planet of Lana retains a child protagonist and side-scrolling puzzles, but trades oppressive horror for a brighter science-fiction setting shaped by an alien-machine invasion. Lana’s cat-like companion, Mui, helps with puzzles. It is the pick for someone who wants the small-hero-in-a-large-world feeling without the same level of dread.

  • Can you gather up the courage to fend off your tormenters, and work with Six to make sense of The Signal Tower?

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

8. Somerville — cinematic alien-invasion puzzles

Somerville is a cinematic puzzle-platform adventure with visual and structural similarities to Inside, set amid an alien invasion. It is a useful option if environmental storytelling and striking scenes matter more than repeating Little Nightmares’ exact horror setup. GameSpot also notes a studio connection through co-founder Dino Patti.

GameSpot lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and 4, and PC.

9. Unravel Two — small characters, cooperative movement

Unravel Two keeps the contrast between small characters and a large world, along with puzzle solving, but replaces horror with a family-friendly tone. It can be played solo or with a friend and puts more emphasis on movement and cooperation. Pick it when you want the scale and traversal, not the menace.

10. Oxenfree — ghost-story atmosphere over platforming

Oxenfree is a story-led adventure about teenagers on an isolated island who open a ghostly portal. Its strength is atmosphere and writing, not the side-scrolling puzzles or child-in-peril perspective that make Little Nightmares distinctive. Choose it if you chiefly want an eerie supernatural story.

The page lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.
