For romance woven into quests and companion stories, start with Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon Age 2, or Mass Effect Legendary Edition. If you’d rather balance relationships with school life, strategy, or a fantasy-adventure routine, consider Persona 5 Royal, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. These ten picks offer different kinds of romance rather than a verified, comparable count of routes; the order below is an editorial guide, not an objective ranking.
How to choose a romance-rich game
Romance can be a central companion storyline, one part of a broader social system, or an optional thread alongside combat and exploration. Routes may depend on dialogue, choices, quests, time spent together, or character approval. A romance option is not necessarily automatic, and the amount it changes the main story varies by game.

10 games with plenty of romantic possibilities
1. Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
This story-driven strategy RPG suits players who want relationships threaded through party dynamics and quests. GamesRadar+ describes romance routes as shaped in part by the player character and choices made during companion interactions. Expect the broader game to remain a strategy adventure, with romance developing through the people and decisions encountered along the way.

2. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
For a lighter blend of fantasy adventure and relationship-building, Guardians of Azuma makes bonding part of the experience. GamesRadar+ describes spending time with companions as a way to develop relationships, so it may suit players who like romance to grow through an ongoing routine rather than only through major story decisions.
3. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This strategy RPG ties character bonds to the house you choose, students’ development, and time spent with them outside battle. GamesRadar+ also describes relationships among the wider cast, giving the social side room to extend beyond the player character’s own connections. Its fit is strongest if you enjoy managing a group and watching relationships build around a tactical campaign.
4. Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 offers focused, character-specific romance routes rather than a broad dating-simulation structure. GamesRadar+ names Panam, Judy, River, and Kerry, and reports that route availability depends on the version of V you create. It also says relationships can influence available endings. If a particular character is the reason you’re considering the game, check route requirements in a current game-specific guide before committing to choices.

5. Baldur’s Gate 3
Romance in Baldur’s Gate 3 sits inside a choice-heavy fantasy campaign. Larian’s official description says each companion has a moral compass and reacts to the player’s choices, while its game page frames relationships as part of camp life and consequential decisions. Larian’s Community Update 22 describes romance as involving deliberation, choice, and consequences, and says players can back out or change their minds. The official game page also notes that nudity and explicit content can be disabled separately or together.
6. Dragon Age 2
If you’re drawn to tension as much as affection, Dragon Age 2 stands out for routes built around approval or rivalry. GamesRadar+ describes romances shaped by Hawke’s responses and companions’ beliefs, including dynamics that can begin in conflict. That makes it a natural pick for players who want a relationship to reflect disagreement and character perspective, not just agreement with every companion.
7. Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal places relationship-building alongside school life and dungeon activity. GamesRadar+ describes a bonding system in which romance is an option that can grow from time spent with characters. It is a good match if you want a social calendar and a long-running character cast to share the spotlight with the game’s other activities.
Rank #3
8. The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
This character-led fantasy adventure centers its main romantic choice on Yennefer and Triss. GamesRadar+ says the choice can affect the ending and who Geralt ends up with. Choose it for relationships embedded in a larger narrative and world, rather than a game built primarily around accumulating romance routes.

9. Mass Effect Legendary Edition
For romance that can continue across a trilogy, Mass Effect Legendary Edition brings together Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. GamesRadar+ describes romantic history carrying through all three games, making this the clearest pick for a relationship thread that can span a long-form science-fiction story. BioWare’s catalogue says the collection includes the trilogy and over 40 DLC; that is a collection-content figure, not a count of romance options.
10. Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age: Inquisition is a companion-focused fantasy RPG in which personal stories and character preferences shape romance. BioWare describes it as a story-driven open-world RPG with complex characters and difficult decisions; GamesRadar+ discusses routes with different character themes and outcomes. It suits players who want to explore a large adventure while getting to know a party with distinct perspectives.

What to know about romance routes
Choices and commitment can matter
Routes may ask for more than selecting a flirtatious line. Companion quests, dialogue, time invested, and how you respond to a character can all play a role in the games above. In Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian explicitly presents relationships as responsive to player decisions and says a player can change course. In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA’s support guide says flirting, companion quests, taking a companion’s side, and gifts can develop romance; it also says all seven companions are potential partners and that players eventually commit to one. That guide’s details apply to The Veilguard, not automatically to other games in the list.
Character creation does not guarantee every route
If you want to shape your protagonist, check whether a game’s routes are restricted by protagonist choices. GamesRadar+ reports that Cyberpunk 2077 routes depend on the chosen V. By contrast, EA says every companion in The Veilguard is a potential partner regardless of Rook’s race, faction, class, or gender. These are game-specific rules, so do not assume one title’s eligibility system applies to another.
Which game has the best romance options?
There is no objective winner: the strongest choice depends on what you want romance to do. Pick Mass Effect Legendary Edition for a continuing trilogy arc, Baldur’s Gate 3 for relationships that respond to choices, Dragon Age 2 for approval-and-rivalry dynamics, or Persona 5 Royal for romance alongside a social schedule. If you want a mix of romance and another genre loop, Fire Emblem: Three Houses emphasizes strategy and character bonds, while Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma pairs bonding with fantasy adventure.
