This ranking weighs the listed buff strength and how broadly useful each effect is, while calling out the conditions that can make a dish a better or worse pick. It is an editorial comparison, not a universal in-game ranking: the percentages below are reported by a guide updated September 9, 2026, and item effects may change in later patches. Check the current item description in-game before relying on an exact value.
How to choose a food buff
Match the effect to your damage source and encounter. General weapon damage is useful across more situations; boss damage, critical effects, weakspot damage, and status damage pay off only when the target or build fits. Read the activation condition as carefully as the percentage: some buffs require full Energy, high Sanity, a Bull’s Eye mark, or a Frost Vortex.
Food and drink effects are not interchangeable. The official Once Human Version 3.0.4 announcement, published August 24, 2026, says, “Generally, only food dishes provide combat stats buffs (except Whimsy Drink and Whimsical Drink).” Whimsical Drink is included below as an exception, not as a dish. The effects and ranking are based on a secondary guide; the official update is used here to clarify the Sparkling Pumpkin Soup correction.
The 10 best Once Human foods and dishes
1. Shattered Bread — best all-purpose weapon buff
The guide lists +25% weapon damage across all weapons. That broad applicability makes Shattered Bread the strongest general recommendation here for a weapon-focused character when no more specific encounter buff is a better fit. It is less tailored than a boss- or status-specific pick, but does not require a particular target state.
#1 Best Overall
- LEARN THE HUMAN BODY THROUGH PLAY: Core Five is a fast-paced STEM card game that teaches kids ages 6+ real anatomy — organ location, function, and fun facts — without it ever feeling like a lesson.
- PERFECT FOR FAMILY GAME NIGHT & HOMESCHOOL: A go-to educational card game for family game nights, homeschooling, and classrooms — screen-free learning the whole family enjoys together.
- 56 CARDS, 8 ORGANS, ENDLESS FUN: Each card covers organ location, importance, what helps or hurts it, and related medical professions — real science content packed into quick, replayable rounds.
- SIMPLE RULES, FAST ROUNDS: Collect 5 cards and shout "Core Five" (or 6 in Bonus Mode) — easy enough for ages 6+ to learn in minutes, engaging enough for repeat play.
- BONUS KNOWLEDGE ROUND: Winners ask an organ question to the table — first correct answer scores bonus points, turning every game into an extra round of learning.
2. Bone-In Deviated Sausage — best for bosses
The listed effect is +15% damage against bosses. Choose it for a boss encounter rather than assuming it improves damage against every enemy. Its focused target bonus can make it more relevant than a broader buff when the fight is specifically a boss battle.
3. Stargazy Pie — best conditional critical-damage option
Stargazy Pie is listed at +25% critical damage while Energy is full. It has a substantial listed effect, but only while that condition holds. If your Energy drops, the guide’s stated activation condition is no longer met; consider the simpler critical-damage option below if maintaining full Energy is unreliable.
4. Stardust Pumpkin Salad — straightforward critical damage
The guide lists +15% critical damage. Unlike Stargazy Pie, the listed effect does not carry a full-Energy condition, making it the more straightforward option when you want a critical-damage buff without that stated requirement.
Rank #2
- People are strange: we looked through the Internet and collected a load of totally-genuine, totally-weird web searches. So we decided to make a party game out of it.
- Think like a human: each round, you'll hear the first half of an internet search, like 'did dinosaurs...'. It's your job to try and figure out what came next
- Did dinosaurs go to heaven?: The higher your answers rank, the more points you'll score for you and your team - so don't be afraid to think a little weird.
- Easy to learn, quick to play: a party game for adults and teenagers, this one takes about 2 minutes to learn and 20 to play. Recommended for 3+ players and ages 14+.
- What people said: 'for once you'll be glad you didn't delete your internet history!' - @tabletopmag
5. Assorted Canned Fruit — weakspot damage with a Sanity threshold
Assorted Canned Fruit is listed at +25% weakspot damage while Sanity is above 80%. This is a strong fit for a weakspot-focused build only if you can stay above the threshold. The listed effect should not be read as unconditional weakspot damage.
6. Mixed Fried Hot Dog — for reliable Bull’s Eye marks
The guide reports +20% damage against targets marked by The Bull’s Eye. It is a useful choice when your build or team can consistently apply that mark. Without a marked target, the stated condition is not satisfied.
7. Honey Glazed Meat — Frost Vortex critical-rate synergy
Honey Glazed Meat is listed at +15% critical rate against enemies in a Frost Vortex. Its value depends on having the relevant Frost Vortex effect on the target, so it is a niche fit rather than a general critical-rate recommendation.
Rank #3
8. Whimsical Drink — status-damage exception
Although this is a drink rather than a dish, the guide lists +25% status damage, and the official Version 3.0.4 announcement names Whimsical Drink as an exception to the usual distinction between combat-stat food dishes and drinks. It belongs on the shortlist for builds that deal status damage; it is not a universal damage buff.
9. Shellfish Meat — short vulnerability window
The listed effect applies 5% vulnerability for 10 seconds to enemies hit. That short duration may help support group damage, but its value depends on allies being able to capitalize on the window. Treat it as a brief vulnerability effect, not a lasting debuff.
10. Sparkling Pumpkin Soup — Power Surge damage and corrected Energy effect
The guide lists +10% Power Surge damage. Separately, the official August 24, 2026 Version 3.0.4 notes say Sparkling Pumpkin Soup now restores Energy and correct a prior issue in which it incorrectly added a beverage-stat buff. Keep those effects distinct: the listed damage bonus is for Power Surge, while the patch note addresses Energy restoration and the earlier erroneous beverage-stat behavior.
Rank #4

- PURE PSYCHOLOGY & STRATEGY: No luck, no complex rules. Skull is a pure test of nerve, memory, and reading opponents; a social deduction masterclass disguised as a beautifully elegant card game
- FAST & ADDICTIVE PARTY GAME: Skull card game plays in 30 minutes with 3-6 players. Rounds are quick and tense, keeping adults and teens engaged and eager for just one more round all night
- GREAT FOR ALL GROUP SIZES: Light enough for casual adult party games, deep enough for strategy lovers. Skull board game delivers thrills, laughter, and tense moments at any gathering or party
- THE ESSENTIAL ADULT PARTY GAME: If you love bluffing, social deduction, and outplaying your friends, Skull is the most elegant, portable party game for adults you will ever own - pure psychology, zero filler
Other foods worth considering for a specific build
- Ginger Poppers or Canned Meat: the guide lists +10% Shrapnel damage, making either a candidate for a Shrapnel-focused build.
- French Fries: listed at +20% weapon damage during Fortress Warfare, so its relevance depends on that combat state.
- Roulette Dumplings: listed as granting a random +15% damage effect against elites, bosses, or Deviants; the guide also notes a possible Sanity penalty. The random target category makes the effect less predictable.
- Safety Sandwich: listed at 20% less damage from other players, a defensive option for PvP rather than a PvE damage pick.
Cooking, enhanced dishes, and keeping effects active
Chef Creative Cooking can combine ingredients, and a successful result may enhance a dish’s effects and duration. The official Annual Version 2.0: Dreamveil Update Preview – Class System, dated June 30, 2025, says: “During creative cooking, there’s a chance for a Success that grants the dish enhanced effects with longer durations.” The preview also says Glutton supports up to two simultaneous food effects and two drink effects. Those slot limits make it useful to distinguish food from drinks when planning a combination.
For practical cooking, the official Version 2.3.8 update describes using a Campfire Stove for dish orders and automating cooking with Chefosaurus Rex. It also covers stove upgrades, redeemable ingredients, and a Portable Fridge. These systems can make food preparation more convenient, but the sources cited here do not establish recipe costs or ingredient availability for every dish in the ranking. Check recipes and ingredients in your current game before planning a particular meal.
Sources and patch sensitivity
The ranked effects and the alternative-food effects are reported by a broad dish guide updated September 9, 2026. The identified official correction for Sparkling Pumpkin Soup comes from the Once Human Version 3.0.4 announcement of August 24, 2026. Because individual dish values are guide-reported and patch-sensitive, the in-game description is the final check for the version you are playing.
