10 beginner tips for Digimon Story: Time Stranger
1. Recruit broadly instead of relying on one favorite
Battle analysis builds scan data for enemy Digimon. At 100% scan data, you can convert it into a new Digimon; the publisher says the resulting Digimon becomes stronger as the scan approaches 200%. 2. Check attribute and element matchups separately
Attributes and elements are two distinct parts of battle effectiveness. Producer Ryosuke Hara gives the attribute chain Virus → Vaccine → Data as an example: a favorable attribute matchup can provide a 100% damage bonus. Elemental weaknesses and resistances form another layer, so check both before choosing an attack. Hara’s PlayStation.Blog overview describes seven attribute types and eleven element types.
3. Keep coverage in your party
With seven attributes and eleven elements, one attack type will not cover every situation. Keep several Digimon and useful skill options available, and adjust your active lineup to the enemies you face. The aim is flexibility, not collecting a single supposedly perfect team.

4. Think of Digivolution as a route, not a ladder
Digimon forms have conditions, and stat growth and personality influence which routes are available. De-digivolution returns a Digimon to a younger form, allowing you to develop it along another path. You do not need to treat each evolution as a permanent, irreversible choice.
5. Check personality before planning growth
The game has 16 personality types, which affect stat growth, skills, and evolution requirements. Hara’s example is Daring, which grows Attack and Defense more and can suit physical offense. Use personality as one factor in planning; that example is not a complete build prescription for every Digimon.
6. Use the DigiFarm as part of progression
Digimon can train at the DigiFarm to increase stats, and food can raise bond points. The producer also says training and special items can change personality. Use the farm to develop your roster over time, rather than expecting a specific training routine to be optimal for every Digimon.
7. Do missions for your agent as well as your team
Missions earn Anomaly Points, which you can use for Agent Skills. Skills include effects such as increasing experience gain and easing evolution requirements; Agent Rank also directly affects Digimon strength. Mission progress therefore supports both your agent and your roster.

8. Use equipment and attachment skills to fill gaps
Equipment can boost stats and resistances, while attachment skills can add elemental attacks or ability boosts. These options let you adjust a Digimon’s role or improve coverage without replacing your whole party.
9. Check demo-save compatibility before starting
Bandai Namco says demo progress carries over, but Nintendo’s transfer notes distinguish between Switch software versions: Switch and Switch 2 software save transfers are not interchangeable, and data from the Switch demo’s Central Town Adventure Trial does not transfer. Check the exact platform version and transfer prompt before investing time in a new full-game save. Nintendo’s listing has the Switch-specific compatibility notes.
10. Confirm platform and edition details before buying
The publisher lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Edition contents differ, so check the current listing for the platform and edition you intend to play; included extras may vary. Nintendo Switch and the separate Switch 2 software version also have distinct compatibility behavior. On Switch 2, the publisher describes Quality and Performance modes. Check both attribute and element interactions when selecting attacks, then widen your roster to cover more matchups.

Review personality and evolution conditions before investing in a particular growth route; use de-digivolution if you want to pursue another route.

Make use of DigiFarm training and missions as complementary progression systems: one develops Digimon, while the other advances Agent Skills and Rank.
What the official advice does—and does not—establish
The publisher’s October 3, 2025 gameplay overview states that the game features more than 450 Digimon. Hara’s producer-authored June 25, 2025 overview explains the combat, personality, and evolution systems. Those facts support broad beginner priorities, but they do not establish one best starter team or a tested, optimal training sequence. Bandai Namco Europe later reported that the game had sold more than one million units after its 2025 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; that is the publisher’s figure, announced alongside the Switch release in February 2026. Bandai Namco Europe’s announcement gives that sales context.
