They center on weapons and combat styles introduced or highlighted in Shadow of the Erdtree, from a poised Milady duelist to a close-range martial artist. Treat each as a starting point: exact stats, infusions, skills, talismans, and results depend on your character, target, and game version.

Before changing your build, account for the Realm of Shadow’s progression
The expansion has its own upgrade systems. Scadutree Fragments raise your Shadow Realm Blessing, which improves both attack power and damage negation as a percentage of base values. Revered Spirit Ashes raise a separate blessing that improves summoned spirits’ offense and defense, as well as Torrent’s. Both blessings apply in the Realm of Shadow and are inactive in the Lands Between. You can travel between the regions after resting at a Realm of Shadow Site of Grace.
If an enemy feels disproportionately difficult, consider exploring for Scadutree Fragments before replacing a weapon or rebuilding your stats. Bandai Namco’s guide specifically recommends raising the blessing when a particular enemy is proving difficult; it does not establish a universal fragment level for any boss. Spirit Ash users can also invest in the separate Revered Spirit Ash progression, but summons are optional.

Balance can change. Bandai Namco’s June 24, 2024 Calibration Update 1.12.2 revised the Scadutree Blessing curves: the first half of levels gained more effect, the second half became more gradual, and the final level increased slightly. That is a dated balance record, not confirmation that later patches made no changes.
Ten build ideas
Each concept is organized around a combat feel rather than a guaranteed damage result. The source-backed equipment names below are starting points; check requirements, scaling, skill behavior, and availability in your current game before committing upgrade materials.
1. The Wing Stance Milady duelist
Build around the Milady light greatsword and its Wing Stance skill for a mobile, deliberate duelist. The appeal is the choice between measured swordplay and committing to a stance attack when you see an opening. Keep the setup focused on the weapon and skill rather than copying a supposed universal stat spread: the appropriate attributes and supporting gear depend on your character and chosen weapon configuration.

Best for: players who like spacing, timing, and switching between quick pressure and a more committed attack. Trade-off: the concept asks you to recognize safe openings rather than simply attack through every exchange.
2. The Backhand Blade skirmisher
Use Backhand Blades as the center of an aggressive hit-and-move style. Close distance, keep pressure on, and reposition instead of standing still to trade. It is a natural fit for players who want the expansion’s faster, more mobile side of melee combat.
Best for: active players who enjoy staying close and responding quickly. Trade-off: aggressive positioning can leave less room to recover from mistimed attacks, so learn when to disengage rather than treating constant pressure as a rule.
3. The Great Katana reach-and-impact fighter
Make the Great Katana your answer to enemies you would rather meet from just outside their immediate reach. This concept emphasizes measured approaches and heavier-feeling commitments over the rapid movement of the Backhand Blade idea. Use its reach to choose your engagements, not as a promise that every swing will safely outrange a particular foe.
Best for: players who prefer a clear attack window and a weapon-led melee plan. Trade-off: slower, more committed attacks reward patience; rushing into an exchange can undermine the reach advantage.
4. The Perfume Bottle skill specialist
Build around a Perfume Bottle and treat its weapon skill as the signature of the setup. This is a way to explore the expansion’s unusual weapon options rather than defaulting to a conventional sword. Decide on supporting attributes and equipment only after checking the bottle’s requirements and the skill’s current behavior in your game version.
Best for: players curious about a distinctive weapon-centered approach. Trade-off: a skill-focused plan depends on opportunities to use that skill; keep a reliable answer for moments when a close-range commitment is unsafe.
5. Rolling Sparks perfume-bottle setup
Take the perfume idea one step further by making Rolling Sparks the centerpiece of your combat plan. PC Gamer’s Shadow of the Erdtree guide index covers both Perfume Bottle builds and Rolling Sparks, making them useful reference points for this style. Build around the skill’s actual behavior in your current patch, and do not assume a particular target will take a fixed amount of damage.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Best for: players who want their weapon skill, rather than repeated basic attacks, to define the build. Trade-off: skill use requires timing and an opening; a plan built around one attack pattern can feel restrictive if you force it into every encounter.
6. The martial-arts close-range fighter
Choose one of the expansion’s martial-arts weapons, such as its gloves, and make close-range pressure the point. This shifts the feel of combat away from conventional weapon reach: movement, timing, and staying close enough to connect matter more than relying on a long blade. PC Gamer’s guide index includes coverage of martial-arts gloves, but the exact setup should be checked against the weapon and patch you are playing.
Best for: players who want a hands-on, close-quarters style. Trade-off: short reach means you need to manage distance carefully; do not confuse a fast-feeling concept with a forgiving one.
7. The reach-first, low-rush explorer
Use a weapon with meaningful reach—such as the Great Katana concept above—and prioritize controlled engagement over chasing enemies. The goal is a calmer rhythm: watch an opponent’s movement, step into a favorable range, and commit when an opening appears. This is a playstyle variation, not a separate claim about a specific weapon’s best stats.

Best for: players who find frantic close pressure difficult to manage. Trade-off: patience can mean fewer attack opportunities, and reach alone does not guarantee safety against every move.
8. The mobile melee-and-skill hybrid
Pair a mobile weapon approach, such as Backhand Blades, with a deliberate focus on using its available weapon skill at the right moment. Alternate movement and ordinary attacks with planned skill use instead of spending every opening the same way. Confirm the skill’s requirements and effects for your chosen weapon before allocating resources around it.
Best for: players who like having more than one response in melee. Trade-off: balancing movement, stamina, and skill opportunities takes more attention than repeating a single safe pattern.
9. The solo duelist
Keep a Milady-and-Wing-Stance or Great-Katana-style weapon plan as the center of your build and learn encounters through your own spacing and timing. This is not a claim that solo play is stronger; it is a way to make each opening and defensive decision your own. Scadutree Blessing still improves your character’s attack power and damage negation in the Realm of Shadow.
Best for: players who want to focus on their own weapon rhythm. Trade-off: without a summoned spirit to draw attention, you must create your own safe opportunities.
10. The spirit-supported weapon specialist
Pick one signature weapon concept—Milady, Backhand Blades, Great Katana, a Perfume Bottle, or a martial-arts weapon—and pair it with a Spirit Ash you enjoy using. This keeps the weapon identity intact while giving a summon a role in your approach. Revered Spirit Ash Blessing is the separate progression path for summoned spirits’ offensive and defensive capabilities, so it is the relevant upgrade system for this idea.
Best for: players who like using a summon as part of their combat plan. Trade-off: the spirit’s blessing is distinct from your own Shadow Realm Blessing; neither system makes summoning mandatory.

| What you want from combat | Ideas to start with | What to pay attention to |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile, close pressure | Backhand Blade skirmisher; martial-arts fighter | Positioning and when to break off an attack |
| Measured reach and commitment | Great Katana fighter; reach-first explorer | Spacing and avoiding attacks that are unsafe to finish |
| Weapon-skill focus | Wing Stance duelist; Perfume Bottle specialist; Rolling Sparks setup | Skill requirements, current behavior, and openings to use it |
| Solo or summon-supported play | Solo duelist; spirit-supported weapon specialist | Use the matching Shadow Realm Blessing progression for your character or spirits |
For any concept, first check whether you enjoy its range and tempo, then adjust attributes and equipment around the exact weapon and skill you have. No universal stat spread, talisman set, or damage ranking is established for these ten ideas.
