Pokémon Sors and Pokémon Sienna are two distinct FireRed-based ROM hacks worth considering in 2026: Sors is a substantial newer release with a documented version 1.3 patch history, while Sienna is a complete, older adventure known for its Voultan region and choice-based story. Which is best depends on whether you want a newer release with current creator documentation or a finished journey built around a new setting.
This is a curated shortlist, not an objective ranking or a representative survey. Available roundup coverage describes selections informed by community mentions, downloads, ratings, recommendations and reader polling, while also noting that its publisher has not completed every game listed. How to choose a Pokémon ROM hack
Start with the kind of playthrough you want rather than a supposed universal ranking. Story and setting, difficulty, project status, roster and mechanics, and patch or emulator requirements can matter more to your enjoyment than a list’s ordering.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

- Difficulty: Check a creator’s current description and documentation for any challenge changes before committing.
- Project status: A complete release offers a finished campaign; a project still in development may change between patches.
- Compatibility: Confirm the required base game, patching directions, and any emulator-specific notes on the creator’s release page.
The two spotlighted hacks below are both based on FireRed, but they suit different priorities.
#1 Best Overall
- Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
1. Pokémon Sors: a newer FireRed-based release with a documented patch history
The creator’s release thread lists Pokémon Sors as a full release, version 1.3, dated December 30, 2025, with English and Spanish versions. Its changelog records fixes for move behavior, evolution methods, softlocks, sprites, shops and quests, and stability. Those are the creator’s stated changes, not independent test results.
The thread says saves from versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 work with version 1.3. It also directs players to read the patching instructions and included documentation. Cheats are explicitly unsupported and may cause problems, according to the creator.
Rank #2
- Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
- Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
- Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
- Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.
Who should choose Sors?
Sors is a reasonable pick if you want a substantial release with a recent, documented patch and are prepared to follow its specific setup notes. Its creator thread, rather than a general emulator list, is the authority for the current patch file and compatibility instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2. Pokémon Sienna: a complete adventure built around Voultan
Pokémon Sienna’s release thread describes it as a complete FireRed hack by Manipulation, with Chibi Robo as co-author. Its feature description highlights the new Voultan region, new Pokémon, travel between regions, moves from the fourth generation onward, new music, and a storyline shaped by player decisions.
Rank #3
- Action meets RPG in this new take on the Pokémon series
- Study Pokémon behaviors, sneak up on them, and toss a well-aimed Poké Ball to catch them
- Unleash moves in the speedy agile style or the powerful strong style in battles
- Travel to the Hisui region—the Sinnoh of old—and build the region’s first Pokédex
- Learn about the Mythical Pokémon Arceus, the key to this mysterious tale
The story begins after the protagonist is rejected from trainer school at Indigo Plateau, then follows a journey through Kanto amid disruption from a team. A secondary PokéCoders roundup describes Sienna as originally made in 2010 and also mentions Kanto, Voultan and Fakemon. Because accounts of updates can differ, consult the creator thread and its later updates for the specific patch and instructions you intend to use.
Who should choose Sienna?
Sienna fits players looking for a finished, older adventure whose appeal is a new region and a branching or decision-based story. Its long-standing release history does not establish which patch is latest today; use the creator-maintained thread to check that before patching.
Rank #4
- Revisit the Sinnoh region from the original Pokémon Pearl Version game and set off to try and become the Champion of the Pokémon League
- The Pokémon Shining Pearl game brings new life to this remade classic with added features
- Explore the Grand Underground to dig up items and Pokémon Fossils, build a Secret Base, and more.
- Test your style and rhythm in a Super Contest Show
- A reimagined adventure, now for the Nintendo Switch system
Which one should you play?
| If your priority is… | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A newer release with a versioned changelog | Pokémon Sors | The creator thread lists full version 1.3, dated December 30, 2025, and describes fixes in its changelog. |
| A complete older adventure in a new region | Pokémon Sienna | The creator calls it complete and emphasizes Voultan and a decision-based story. |
| Specific emulator or patch guidance | Check the creator thread for either game | Compatibility and patch instructions are game- and version-specific; Sors’s thread also flags a possible extra emulator-fix patch. |
This comparison covers the two titles for which current release details are established here; it does not imply that these are objectively the top two hacks or that the wider category has a settled top ten. A 2026 roundup’s selection method and its admission that not every listed game was completed are useful context, not proof of a representative player consensus.
How to patch and check compatibility safely
ROM hacks are fan-made modifications, not official Pokémon releases. A patch applies creator-distributed files to a compatible base game; do not treat a hack patch as the base game itself. Legal rules vary by jurisdiction, and this guide does not make a legal determination about obtaining or using game files.
- Open the creator’s release thread. Find the release matching the language and version you want, and read its instructions and documentation before patching.
- Check the stated base requirement. Sors’s thread specifies “1636 – Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Squirrels)” as its required base. Follow the creator’s directions and do not download copyrighted base ROMs from an unofficial source.
- Apply the patch as instructed. Use the creator’s recommended patching process and files; don’t assume a patch for one version or language will work with another.
- Read emulator-specific notes. Sors’s creator says an additional emulator-fix patch may be needed for some emulators, including mGBA and Delta. Check the thread and included documentation for the circumstances and steps.
- Keep a compatible save and avoid unsupported cheats. For Sors, the creator says saves from versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 work with 1.3, and warns that cheats are unsupported and may cause problems.
A September 2026 Held Games handheld guide names devices such as the Miyoo Mini, Anbernic RG35XX, Steam Deck and phones as capable of GBA emulation. That is general guide-level information, not a verified compatibility test for Sors or Sienna on each device. An existing phone or computer may be sufficient; a dedicated handheld is optional, and its controls, screen and portability are personal trade-offs.
