What “all-time peak players” means
All-time peak means the largest number of concurrent players recorded for a particular Steam chart entry: the number playing at the same time at its highest observed point. It is not a count of owners, downloads, lifetime players, or sales. SteamDB describes its charts as “High-resolution Steam charts with concurrent player counts for all Steam games, including historic data.”

The leaderboard is maintained by SteamDB, not Valve. SteamDB says it is not affiliated with Valve or Steam. Its chart times are UTC; its current top thousand games update every five minutes and other entries update every ten minutes. Because records can change, the figures and ordering above are a dated snapshot, not a permanent ranking.

Steam’s official Game and Player Statistics page shows Steam-wide concurrent users over the most recent 48 hours, alongside games’ current player counts and peaks for today. Those live and daily measures answer different questions from a single game’s lifetime peak on SteamDB. A platform-wide user total should not be compared directly with one game’s record.
