These ten games make a case for the Xbox 360’s less obvious strengths: ambitious Japanese role-playing games, unusual action, and big-screen battles that helped define the console’s identity. “Underrated” is a judgment, not a measured ranking, and “exclusive” here refers to games Microsoft positioned as Xbox 360 exclusives at the time—not a guarantee that a title has never appeared elsewhere.
What makes these Xbox 360 games worth revisiting?
This is a curated list, not a definitive ranking. The picks stand out for a distinctive premise, creative lineage, genre contrast, or documented place in Microsoft’s Xbox 360-era lineup. The evidence for historical exclusivity is strongest for several titles Microsoft explicitly promoted that way; for others, the case is their particular creative identity. Check current platform availability title by title rather than assuming every game remains exclusive or is playable on newer hardware.

10 underrated Xbox 360 exclusives
1. Lost Odyssey
For players who want a substantial, traditional-style role-playing game, Lost Odyssey is the clearest starting point. Xbox identifies it as a Microsoft-published RPG developed by Mistwalker and feelplus, released in 2008. Microsoft’s earlier announcement connected the project with Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi. The Xbox Store listing says it is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, making it one of the entries with an official modern-console path. Xbox Store: Lost Odyssey · Microsoft’s 2007 announcement
2. Blue Dragon
Blue Dragon pairs a classic RPG format with an unusually prominent creative team: the Xbox Store credits Hironobu Sakaguchi and Artoon with its creation, Akira Toriyama with character design, and Nobuo Uematsu with music. Microsoft included it in its Xbox 360 launch-lineup announcement. That combination makes it a natural counterpart to Lost Odyssey for players interested in the console’s Japanese RPG ambitions. - The Largest Collection of Classic SEGA Titles. Players will trip back in time with favorites including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Columns, Eco the Dolphin and four titles from the Phantasy Star series, to name a few.
- Several Unlockable Titles. Included in the collection are arcade favorites such as Congo Bongo, Altered Beast, Zaxxon and more.
- All Titles Upgraded to Hi-Def. The classic 2D style never looked so good! Each title has been converted to hi-def (720p) and will be a blast to play using the intuitive controls of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.
- Massive Multiplayer Options. Friends can play the 2-Player classics together in select games from the same console at home.
3. Ninja Gaiden 2
Ninja Gaiden 2 offers a sharp action-game contrast to the RPGs above. Microsoft described Team NINJA’s game as exclusive to Xbox 360 in a 2007 announcement, with a worldwide release planned for 2008. That wording documents how the game was positioned at the time; it should not be read as a statement about every later edition or present-day platform availability. Microsoft’s 2007 announcement
4. Ninety-Nine Nights
Ninety-Nine Nights was pitched by Microsoft as an Xbox 360 exclusive in 2006, with fantasy battles seen through the perspectives of good and evil. Its appeal is the scale and shifting viewpoint of that premise rather than a claim that it is the definitive example of its genre. Microsoft’s 2006 announcement

5. Lost Planet
Lost Planet brought science-fiction action to Microsoft’s 2006 Xbox 360-exclusive lineup, and the announcement also highlighted Xbox Live multiplayer. That official statement establishes how the game was presented then, but does not settle later ports or the status of current online services. Microsoft’s 2006 announcement
6. Saints Row
Microsoft’s 2006 announcement called Saints Row an Xbox 360 exclusive and emphasized its blend of action and driving. That hybrid identity gives it a distinct place in this selection. The historical label is not proof of present-day exclusivity, so check the release and platform information for the particular version you want to play. Microsoft’s 2006 announcement

- The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world ever created and now packed with layers of new detail.
- Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game's three lead characters, playing all sides of the game's interwoven story.
- Grand Theft Auto V also comes with Grand Theft Auto Online, the dynamic and ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe for multiple players.
7. The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile
The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is the list’s most unusual action-game pick. Developer Ska Studios describes story campaigns for both the Dishwasher and Yuki, local and online co-op, 50 Arcade Challenges, and a Dish Challenge. Those modes offer more than a single campaign route, while the two playable leads give the story a distinctive structure. The developer’s page is useful for features, not independent evidence of review consensus. Ska Studios: The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile
8. Kameo: Elements of Power
Kameo: Elements of Power belongs here as part of the Xbox 360’s early first-party identity. Microsoft listed it among the console’s launch-lineup titles in 2005. That source establishes the launch context, rather than a claim that the game was overlooked by reviewers or players. Microsoft’s 2005 lineup announcement

9. Perfect Dark: Zero
Perfect Dark: Zero was also included in Microsoft’s first-party Xbox 360 launch-lineup announcement. Its place on this list reflects that role in the console’s early catalog; the cited announcement alone does not establish its reception or later platform status. Microsoft’s 2005 lineup announcement
10. Project Gotham Racing 3
Project Gotham Racing 3 rounds out the launch-era selections. Microsoft named it among its first-party Xbox 360 launch titles, giving it a clear connection to the system’s opening lineup. The announcement provides platform context, not a sourced verdict on how underrated it is. Microsoft’s 2005 lineup announcement

Which of these can you play on Xbox One or Series X|S?
Do not infer modern compatibility from a game’s Xbox 360 history. Xbox’s backward-compatibility catalog includes selected Xbox 360 titles, so check each game’s entry before buying or installing. The Xbox Store specifically lists Lost Odyssey as playable on Xbox One and Series X|S. For a supported disc game on Xbox One or Series X, Xbox says to insert the disc, let the console download the game, and keep the disc in the drive to play. Xbox Series S is digital-only and cannot use game discs. Xbox backward compatibility
How to choose a starting point
- For a story-focused RPG: Start with Lost Odyssey; choose Blue Dragon if its credited creative team is the stronger draw.
- For action: Ninja Gaiden 2 is the clearest pick, while The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile offers two story campaigns and multiple challenge modes.
- For a snapshot of the Xbox 360’s early lineup: Look at Kameo: Elements of Power, Perfect Dark: Zero, or Project Gotham Racing 3.
- For games Microsoft explicitly called Xbox 360 exclusives at announcement: The cited historical statements cover Ninja Gaiden 2, Ninety-Nine Nights, Lost Planet, and Saints Row.
