TaleWorlds says launching before both downloads are updated can cause a crash. Then work through the standard PS5 troubleshooting steps below. They may help, but no official source confirms one fix for every Bannerlord crash.
Start with the game and its updates
1. Check for a Bannerlord update
On your PS5, highlight Bannerlord, press the options button, and choose Check for Update if that option is available. Compare the installed version with the latest release shown on the console and TaleWorlds’ official patch notes. The latest notes located for this article are for v1.4.7 and are dated July 8, 2026; check TaleWorlds for any newer release before treating that as the current version.
2. If you own War Sails, make sure both updates have finished
TaleWorlds warns that Bannerlord and the War Sails expansion can update at different times. Launching before both are updated can crash the game. Check the PS5 Downloads/Uploads queue and wait until both downloads or updates are complete before launching.
3. If the game and expansion were out of sync, follow the console-compatible remedy
TaleWorlds advises verifying game files for the update-mismatch problem. PS5 does not provide a Steam-style “verify files” button, so do not look for one in the console menus. Make sure the game and expansion are fully updated; if the crash continues, use the reinstall option below or contact support.
4. Check whether the crash matches a situation addressed in the patch notes
TaleWorlds’ v1.4.7 notes list fixes for crashes after exiting a conversation, attacking a raiding party on the campaign map, defending a village during a raid when there is no militia, cloth simulation, battle memory ordering, and AI behaviour. If your crash happens in one of these situations, install the latest available update and see whether the issue persists. The notes describe fixes, not a guarantee that every similar crash is resolved on every platform.
Try standard PS5 troubleshooting
The following are PlayStation’s general game-start troubleshooting actions, not Bannerlord-specific diagnoses. Follow them in order, stopping if the problem is resolved.
5. Restart the PS5
Restart the console from the power menu, then launch the game again. A restart is a quick, low-impact first maintenance step in PlayStation’s game troubleshooting guidance.
6. Restore licenses
If you own a digital copy, restore licenses through Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. This is a general license troubleshooting step; it does not establish that a license problem caused a crash.

7. Move the game from USB extended storage to console storage
If Bannerlord is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and try again. PlayStation lists this check for games that will not start. Menu labels may vary slightly with system software updates.
8. Delete and redownload the game
If the crash continues, delete the installed game and download it again from your library or the PlayStation Store. Use a wired internet connection for the download if possible. This is a general PS5 troubleshooting step, not confirmation that the installed game files are the cause. Do not delete saved data as a routine part of reinstalling.
9. Update PS5 system software
Check Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and install any available update. Then test the game again.

10. Clear the cache and rebuild the database in Safe Mode
Turn off the PS5, then press and hold its power button until you hear the second beep to enter Safe Mode. Connect the controller with a USB cable and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then choose the relevant maintenance option. Follow PlayStation’s on-screen prompts. Safe Mode changes system maintenance state, so select the intended option carefully; do not choose Reset PS5 or reinstall system software as an early crash fix.

If Bannerlord still crashes
Keep a short record before contacting support: note any PS5 error code, what you were doing immediately before the crash, and the steps that reliably reproduce it. PlayStation requests these details when players contact support. You can also use the PLAION Bannerlord Helpcenter to look for an existing solution or submit a support request. The official material does not establish that every current PS5 crash is fixed or identify one cause common to all crashes.
