Among the confirmed Switch 2 releases, Nintendo lists Mario Kart World as released June 5, 2025, and Donkey Kong Bananza as released July 17, 2025. How Switch 2 Editions differ from new releases
Some titles are Switch 2 Editions of games that originally appeared on Nintendo Switch, rather than wholly new games. Nintendo lists The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as June 5, 2025 releases. What can be ranked from the available information?
The official sources confirm release, platform, and edition details for candidates, but they do not document VGSources staff play sessions, impressions, or a consistent selection rule. The title “games we played in 2025” could mean games first released during 2025 or games played during that year, including older releases. Without a verified play record and a clear eligibility rule, there is no defensible basis here for selecting or ranking 11 games as staff recommendations.
