The phrase “never left the PlayStation 3” needs a clear definition: a game can have debuted on PS3, later received a port or remaster, or be playable elsewhere through streaming. The available official PlayStation sources establish the platform’s history, but do not verify the current release and service history of twelve games. So a definitive list of twelve PS3-only games cannot be responsibly presented on this evidence.
What can be established is useful for building such a list: which historical examples are candidates, which fail a strict test, and how to distinguish a later remake from a port of the original release.

What “never left PS3” should mean
For a strict list, an entry should be an original game released on PS3 whose original release has not subsequently been ported or remastered for another platform. A remake is a distinct version, while streaming availability can make a game playable on other hardware without being a native port. Those cases should be identified separately rather than treated as interchangeable.
That distinction matters because PlayStation’s 2011 preview called its selections games players would “only play on PS3” at that time. It is historical evidence of how the games were positioned then, not a present-day exclusivity audit. PlayStation.Blog’s 2011 PS3 preview and Sony’s PlayStation history provide context, but neither establishes the current platform history of twelve candidates.

- In a frantic battle to the checkered flag, Sonic and friends speed around tracks set in mediaeval castle ramparts, lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA.
- Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium…
- Each character has a specific All Star move – such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado – that allows a quick way for competitors to get back into the race!
- Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they don’t become a threat to that number one position.
- Battle it out in single or multiplayer mode, allowing up to four friends to race in frantic split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online in the ultimate racing showdown.
What the official examples show
The Last of Us does not meet the strict test
PlayStation announced The Last of Us as a PS3 exclusive, then later announced a PS4 remaster. It therefore cannot be described as a game that never left PS3 under the definition above. The announcements show why launch-era exclusivity is not enough: the 2011 announcement establishes its original PS3 framing, while the 2014 remaster announcement establishes a later version for another console.
Demon’s Souls needs release-level wording
PlayStation identifies the original Demon’s Souls as available on PS3 and separately presents a PS5 remake. The remake is not the same release as the original, so it does not by itself establish that the original game was ported. A careful account must say which release it means instead of claiming broadly that “Demon’s Souls” never left PS3. See PlayStation’s Demon’s Souls page.

Historical mentions are leads, not proof
PlayStation’s historical materials name inFAMOUS 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 in a PS3 context. The historical timeline and PS Store’s historical Best of PS3 feature help identify titles associated with the console, but do not settle their complete current platform or streaming histories. They should not be counted as verified PS3-only entries on that basis alone.
Why a verified top twelve is not established
The sources support historical context and a few examples, not a consistent audit of twelve games. They also do not provide a common critical scoring system that would substantiate a ranked “best” list. A defensible ranking would need to apply one editorial standard—such as game quality, genre variety, distinctive PS3-era identity, and strength of the current PS3-only claim—while clearly separating subjective judgments from release-history facts.
Rank #3
- The Largest Collection of Classic SEGA Titles. Players will trip back in time with favorites including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Columns, Eco the Dolphin and four titles from the Phantasy Star series, to name a few.
- Several Unlockable Titles. Included in the collection are arcade favorites such as Congo Bongo, Altered Beast, Zaxxon and more.
- All Titles Upgraded to Hi-Def. The classic 2D style never looked so good! Each title has been converted to hi-def (720p) and will be a blast to play using the intuitive controls of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.
- Massive Multiplayer Options. Friends can play the 2-Player classics together in select games from the same console at home.
Until each proposed title is checked against current official publisher or platform information, presenting twelve titles as confirmed to have never left PS3 would overstate what is known. The evidence here does not establish a complete current list.
How to check a candidate game
- Confirm the original release. Establish that the specific game first appeared on PS3; a franchise association or a historical PS3 list alone is not sufficient.
- Check for ports and remasters. Look for the same original game released on another platform, including a remastered edition. If one exists, exclude it from a strict never-left list.
- Separate remakes from the original. Record a remake as a distinct version and explain that distinction, as with the original PS3 Demon’s Souls and its PS5 remake.
- Check streaming separately. Note whether another platform offers the game through a streaming service; do not conflate streaming with a native port.
- Apply the same test to every entry. Only after checking the full set should a list claim that all twelve still meet the chosen definition.
Playing PS3 releases today
A PlayStation 3 console and original PS3 discs are the direct physical route for games that remain tied to the platform. That is a practical starting point, not a guarantee that a particular used console or disc is in stock, in good condition, or compatible with every reader’s setup.
