For Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), the easiest way to get comfortable is to practice in campaign or Arcade, learn the four trooper classes in Blast, and then move into larger objective modes. Along the way, get familiar with your blaster’s heat gauge, the scanner, health recovery, and the Collection menu. These tips apply to the 2017 EA game, not the 2005 Star Wars: Battlefront II.
1. Warm up in the campaign
If you would rather learn at your own pace before joining online matches, start with the campaign. EA recommends it as a lower-pressure introduction to the game’s mechanics. It follows Iden Versio and includes both infantry and space missions, so you can get a feel for different kinds of play.

2. Use Arcade for offline practice
Arcade lets you practice with troopers and heroes against AI opponents. If you want to work on flying, try Starfighter Custom Arcade instead. Both are useful ways to get hands-on with controls and abilities without the pressure of an online match. EA’s beginner guide outlines these practice options.
3. Learn the four trooper classes in Blast
The four standard trooper classes are Officer, Specialist, Assault, and Heavy. Each has a distinct configuration and abilities, so pick one to learn before frequently switching classes. Blast is a focused way to practice trooper combat without heroes or vehicles adding other variables.

- A new hero, a story untold in an emotionally gripping new Star Wars campaign that spans over 30 years
- The ultimate battleground
- Galactic scale space combat: Space combat has been designed for Star Wars Battlefront II from the ground up with distinct handling, weapons and customization options
- Battery: No battery used
4. Start with Blast’s clear goal
In the 2018 EA beginner guide, Blast is described as a race to 100 eliminations. Its simple goal helps you concentrate on aiming, movement, and class abilities before taking on modes with several objectives. That number is a round target in the guide, not a performance benchmark.
5. Learn a class before changing your loadout
Classes have different configurations, and Star Cards are tied to a class. Spend enough time with one class to understand what its abilities do before deciding whether a loadout needs changing. There is no universally best class or Star Card setup established by EA’s guidance; the useful choice depends on how you want to play. EA explains class configurations and Star Cards in its class overview.

6. Visit Collection to manage abilities
Collection is where you customize units and assign Skill Points to unlock abilities through Star Cards. If you have earned progression but have not reviewed this menu, you may be missing available ways to adjust a unit. Check it when you are ready to make a deliberate change rather than swapping cards at random.
7. Follow the objective in Galactic Assault
Galactic Assault is objective-based and unfolds across multiple stages. Pay attention to what your team needs at the current stage: advance when attacking or help hold ground when defending. Chasing eliminations without contributing to the objective can leave the team short where it matters. The EA guide to modes describes this structure.

- The reboot of the Battlefront series returns with a new character class system and a single-player campaign in Star Wars: Battlefront II. Solo gamers join the Galactic Empire as Iden Versio, commander of an Imperial special forces unit known as Inferno Squad.
- Beginning after the explosion of Death Star II, players embark on a 30-year campaign in which they interact with iconic Star Wars characters and fight to suppress the rebellion in battles on land and in space, while multiplayer fans pick from four classes, head to iconic locations, and compete in a variety of modes.
- Gamers choose from Assault, Heavy, Specialist, or Support classes and then switch between first-person and third-person perspectives as they fight across worlds like Endor, Jakku, Naboo, and Yavine 4, either on foot, or aboard vehicles like speeder bikes, snowspeeders, and AT-ATs.
- Multiplayer modes include the objective-based scenarios of Strike, Galactic Assault, and Starfighter Assault, the close-quarters combat of Blast, and four-on-four battles in Heroes vs. Villains mode.
- This Game is a Region Free PAL Game Imported from the UK. Works on all PS4 consoles You may need to create a free European PSN (Playstation Network) account for DLCs and extra contents and for online play.
8. Expect mixed unit types in large modes
EA’s 2018 guide describes Galactic Assault as a 40-player mode where troopers, reinforcements, vehicles, and heroes can all appear in the same match. That combination makes it less predictable than Blast: keep track of the situation around the objective and adapt your approach to the unit types in play. The 40-player figure is the mode description in that guide, not a claim about current matchmaking or server activity.
9. Watch blaster heat instead of firing continuously
Sustained firing builds heat. Pausing gives a blaster time to cool, while the manual’s active cooling sequence can speed recovery. Pay attention to the heat gauge so you are not caught unable to fire when an opponent appears. The exact control for active cooling depends on platform; the PC manual describes the mechanic and PC controls.

10. Check the scanner before crossing open ground
The scanner marks allies and enemies, and it flashes red to indicate the direction of incoming enemy fire. Glance at it before moving through an exposed area: it can give you a reason to pause, find cover, or take a different route rather than running straight into danger. Scanner behavior and controls are described in the PC manual.

Trooper health regenerates after you avoid damage for a short time, and the regeneration rate varies by class. If you are badly hurt, use cover and let the pause in combat do its work instead of staying in the open and hoping to outshoot the next opponent. The manual describes the health mechanic.

Which mode should you try next?
Choose the next mode based on what you want to practice rather than jumping straight into the largest match:
| Mode | Best for | Scope and pressure |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Learning mechanics through a structured story | Single-player; includes infantry and space missions |
| Arcade | Practicing troopers or heroes against AI | Offline practice |
| Starfighter Custom Arcade | Practicing flight | Offline starfighter practice |
| Blast | Learning trooper combat and class roles | Focused combat; the 2018 guide describes a 100-elimination round target |
| Hero Showdown | Focused hero combat | Two-on-two hero play |
| Galactic Assault | Practicing team objectives in a large match | Multi-stage objectives and mixed unit types; the 2018 guide describes 40 players |
These mode descriptions and figures come from EA’s 2018 beginner guide; they describe gameplay structure, not present-day player counts or matchmaking activity.
A practical order for getting started
- Play the campaign or use Arcade to get comfortable with movement, aiming, abilities, or flight.
- Choose one of the four trooper classes and practice it in Blast.
- Review Collection, assign available Skill Points, and make considered Star Card choices for that class.
- In combat, manage blaster heat, use the scanner before crossing exposed ground, and take cover when damaged.
- Move into Galactic Assault when you are ready to follow multi-stage objectives alongside troopers, reinforcements, vehicles, and heroes.
If hero combat or starfighters are your main interest, EA’s mode guide also identifies Hero Showdown and Hero Starfighters as more focused ways to play those roles.
