The fastest practical way to make rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild depends on how far you are: sell surplus gems or valuable meat early, use Ramella’s bulk gem sales or Snowball Bowling after reaching the relevant regions, and consider Farosh horn shards once you can reliably reach the dragon’s route. There is no verified, comparable rupees-per-minute ranking for every method, so the best choice depends on your progress, travel time, equipment, and willingness to spend upgrade materials.
How to choose a rupee-farming method
Most rupees come from selling loot and materials. Nintendo recommends selling items you have in quantity, but cautions that some materials have later uses. Gems and monster parts can be needed for armor upgrades, so sell surplus rather than emptying your inventory automatically. Nintendo’s general item-selling advice is a useful rule for every route below.
The payouts here are figures reported by the cited game guides, not results from a controlled speed comparison. Treat “fastest” as a practical recommendation for your stage of the game, not a guaranteed ranking.
Early-game ways to earn rupees
1. Sell surplus gems from ore deposits and chests
Break ore deposits, check chests, and defeat Stone Taluses for chances to collect gems. QuestFern’s guide lists these sale values: Diamond, 500 rupees; Sapphire, 260; Ruby, 210; and Topaz, 180. These are guide-reported values, and each gem may also be useful for upgrades or other purposes. QuestFern’s rupee guide supplies the listed prices; Nintendo confirms the sources of gems and recommends selling items when you have enough on hand.

2. Mine with a tool suited to hard ore
Use a Drillshaft or Iron Sledgehammer on hard ore deposits when available. Nintendo says swords and spears are difficult to use for mining and lose durability quickly. This can preserve more useful weapon durability while you collect saleable gems. Nintendo’s Eldin-region guidance names the mining tools.
3. Sell Raw Gourmet Meat to Trott
After completing the “A Rare Find” quest at Outskirt Stable, QuestFern reports that Trott pays 100 rupees for Raw Gourmet Meat. This is a direct sale option if you would rather keep your gems. The buyer and quest requirement make it less convenient before you reach the stable and complete the task. QuestFern lists the price and unlock condition.

4. Cook five Raw Gourmet Meats into a skewer
QuestFern and Zelda Dungeon list a five-piece Raw Gourmet Meat skewer as selling for 490 rupees. It uses five pieces of valuable meat, so compare the prepared sale with other uses before cooking a large stock. QuestFern’s guide and Zelda Dungeon’s Meat Skewer reference report the 490-rupee sale value.
5. Collect and sell baked apples to Juney
QuestFern reports a 1,200-rupee sale for 100 baked apples to Juney, after reaching Rito Village and completing “The Apple of My Eye.” This is a bulk-collection option, not necessarily a quick route in real time: gathering and baking a hundred apples takes effort, and access requires story and map progress. QuestFern lists the amount and unlock condition.

Mid-game methods with repeatable payouts
6. Sell ten gems to Ramella in Goron City
After completing Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Ramella can buy gems in bulk for more than their ordinary sale price. QuestFern reports 2,000–5,500 rupees for a batch of ten, depending on the gem type. Nintendo confirms the bulk-buy mechanic, while QuestFern provides the payout range and story prerequisite. Because gems can be used for armor upgrades, sell only the kinds and quantities you can spare. Nintendo’s Eldin guide and QuestFern cover the mechanic and reported values.
7. Play Pondo’s Snowball Bowling
Pondo’s cabin is near the Tabantha Village Ruins in Hebra. Nintendo confirms that each attempt costs 20 rupees; QuestFern reports a 300-rupee payout for a strike. You need to reach the cold region and manage its conditions, and a strike is not guaranteed on every turn. It is a repeatable minigame, but the entry fee means a missed attempt can lose money. Nintendo verifies the location and fee; QuestFern reports the strike payout and cold-protection prerequisite.

8. Hunt Rare Stone Taluses
QuestFern reports that a Rare Talus can yield six to ten ore and up to two gems, with a 50% diamond chance. The guide also describes the route as repeatable after Blood Moons and lists the target at 900 HP. That makes this a combat-dependent option for a well-equipped player, not an early shortcut; drops and the time needed to defeat the Talus affect the return. QuestFern’s guide is the source for these drop and health figures.
Later-game routes for players with stronger equipment
9. Farm Farosh horn shards
QuestFern lists a 300-rupee sale value per Farosh horn shard and describes a route at Riola Spring that uses a bow and a 5:00 a.m. setup, with one shard available per morning. This offers a repeatable sale, but reaching the location and arranging the timing add overhead; it is most useful when you can perform the route reliably. QuestFern reports the value and route details.

10. Sell Lynel Guts
QuestFern lists Lynel Guts at 200 rupees each. Obtaining them assumes you can defeat Lynels, so this is a late-game combat route rather than a safe farming method for a developing character. Monster parts can have other uses, so weigh the sale against your crafting and upgrade needs. QuestFern reports the sale value.
11. Turn four Lynel Guts into an elixir for sale
QuestFern lists a four-guts elixir at 2,330 rupees. That higher reported sale consumes four valuable monster parts, so it is an option when you have a surplus and want a larger single sale—not a free bonus over selling materials. The guide does not establish that this is faster or more profitable per minute than other late-game routes. QuestFern reports the recipe quantity and value.
12. Sell Star Fragments only if you can spare them
Star Fragments are among the late-game sale opportunities identified by QuestFern, but the cited guide passage does not establish a sale price for this route. They can have other uses, so do not treat a specific rupee return as guaranteed based on the available figure. QuestFern identifies the item as a possible sale opportunity.

| Route | Progress or setup | Reported payout | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sell surplus gems | Find ore deposits, chests, or Stone Taluses | Diamond 500; Sapphire 260; Ruby 210; Topaz 180 rupees (QuestFern) | Gems may be needed for upgrades |
| Gourmet meat sale or skewer | Trott requires “A Rare Find”; skewer requires five pieces | 100 rupees for Raw Gourmet Meat; 490 for five-piece skewer (QuestFern; skewer also listed by Zelda Dungeon) | Uses valuable meat; buyer unlock required for direct sale |
| Juney’s baked apples | Reach Rito Village and complete “The Apple of My Eye”; collect and bake 100 apples | 1,200 rupees for 100 apples (QuestFern) | Collection-heavy |
| Ramella bulk sale | Complete Divine Beast Vah Rudania; bring ten gems | 2,000–5,500 rupees per ten, depending on gem type (QuestFern) | Consumes upgrade materials; payout varies |
| Snowball Bowling | Reach Pondo’s cabin near Tabantha Village Ruins; manage cold conditions | 20-rupee entry (Nintendo); 300-rupee strike (QuestFern) | Strike is not guaranteed; failed turns cost the fee |
| Rare Talus | Strong combat equipment recommended | Six to ten ore and up to two gems (QuestFern) | 900 HP target; combat and drop variance |
| Farosh horn shard | Bow, Riola Spring route, 5:00 a.m. setup | 300 rupees per shard; one per morning (QuestFern) | Route and timing overhead |
| Lynel materials | Ability to defeat Lynels | 200 per Lynel Gut; 2,330 for an elixir using four (QuestFern) | High combat risk and consumes useful parts |
For most players, start with saleable loot you already have rather than travelling across Hyrule for a specialized route. As your map and story progress expand, Ramella, Pondo, and Farosh offer more structured repeatable opportunities—but their payout figures come from guides and should not be mistaken for a universal speed ranking.
