If you want another game to tackle with a friend, partner, sibling, or family member, the best fit depends on what you liked: a two-player story, coordinated puzzles, lively platforming, or the delight of shared chaos. The 17 games below were recommended by Insider Gaming in an article published February 19, 2025—before Split Fiction launched on March 6, 2025. They span very different kinds of co-op, so treat them as a varied shortlist, not 17 games that all copy Hazelight’s formula.
Before buying, check whether the exact game and edition support couch or online co-op, how many players can join, which platforms are supported, and whether crossplay is available between your systems. Those details vary by game.
Start with the kind of co-op you want
- Another two-player story adventure: A Way Out is the closest match in the list to Hazelight’s story-led approach: it is a two-player split-screen adventure from the same studio. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Unravel Two are other narrative-leaning options, though their styles differ.
- Teamwork built around puzzles: Portal 2 has a dedicated two-player co-op adventure. If you want players to take on separate roles, GamesRadar’s additional recommendation Operation: Tango pairs an agent with a hacker.
- Platforming and movement: Try Rayman Legends, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, or Unravel Two for expressive platforming rather than a direct Hazelight-style match.
- Comic coordination under pressure: Overcooked and Moving Out turn shared tasks into hectic, often funny teamwork.
- A much bigger RPG departure: Baldur’s Gate 3 and Diablo 4 offer longer-form role-playing or action-RPG play, not compact two-player story adventures.

What changed since the original 2025 title?
Split Fiction is no longer upcoming: Electronic Arts says it launched March 6, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app. EA’s current official page also reports Nintendo Switch 2 availability; check the official listing for the buying region and edition you need. EA’s Split Fiction page describes a two-player split-screen co-op adventure that alternates between sci-fi and fantasy, with platforming, stealth, puzzles, and changing abilities.
PlayStation’s FAQ says the game is designed exclusively for two-player co-op, supports crossplay across supported platforms, and on PS5 requires two DualSense wireless controllers for local play. It also says a PS4 version was not planned when that page was checked. PlayStation’s Split Fiction FAQ is the place to confirm current platform-specific details.
How Friend’s Pass works
EA and PlayStation describe local co-op and online cross-platform play through Friend’s Pass. One player must own the full game for the second player to join the entire adventure. The pass requires installation, a persistent internet connection, and an applicable platform account; check the official instructions for the platforms involved. EA’s official page provides the current pass details.
Choose based on how you’ll play
- For couch play: Confirm local co-op and the number of controllers required. A game being cooperative does not by itself mean it supports shared-screen or split-screen play on every platform.
- For online play: Check whether both players need a copy, whether a friend pass or other invite option exists, and whether the game requires persistent internet.
- For friends on different systems: Look for an explicit crossplay statement covering both platforms. “Online multiplayer” alone does not establish crossplay.
- For exactly two people: Favor games explicitly built around two-player cooperation, such as A Way Out or Portal 2. If you want to include more friends, check the supported player count rather than assuming a game accommodates a larger group.
- For a short, focused adventure versus a longer commitment: Story adventures and platformers tend to offer a more directed path, while survival and RPG choices can ask for more time and ongoing coordination. Check the game’s current store listing for campaign and multiplayer specifics.
The original article’s framing was published February 19, 2025, before Split Fiction launched. EA reported 23 million copies sold worldwide for It Takes Two in its March 6, 2025 launch release for Split Fiction; that is a publisher-reported figure from that date, not a current sales total. EA’s launch release also contains the date and platform announcement for Split Fiction.
