1cb6d9f0.dll is a private application file associated with BPS CD Ripper, an older Windows CD-audio ripping program from BulletProofSoft. If Windows says 1cb6d9f0.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the program that requested it instead of downloading the DLL into a Windows system folder.
What this file actually does
1cb6d9f0.dll is identified as BPS CD Ripper, a component of the legacy BPS CD Ripper / Grabber application. That program was designed to extract audio CDs into formats including WAV, MP3, OGG, and WMA.

This is not a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, device driver, or .NET file. The available evidence points to an application-private DLL that should normally be stored in the BPS program’s own installation directory.

Causes of the error by symptom
| What you see | Most likely explanation | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| The error appears when launching BPS CD Ripper | The program’s private DLL is missing or damaged | Repair or reinstall BPS CD Ripper |
| The error appears after antivirus detection | Defender or another security product quarantined the DLL | Check Protection History before restoring anything |
| The error appears after uninstalling the program | A shortcut, startup item, task, or file association still launches part of it | Remove the leftover startup entry or uninstall the program fully |
| The DLL exists, but Windows still reports a missing module | A dependency loaded by the DLL may be missing | Reinstall the application and inspect the complete loader error |
| The message says the file is not designed to run on Windows | The binary may be corrupt, incompatible, or the wrong architecture | Restore a matching application build |
| The error appears from a random folder | The file may be misplaced or suspicious | Do not copy it to System32; scan the file and identify the requesting executable |
| The error remains after reinstalling | An old shortcut, incompatible build, or additional dependency may be involved | Check the executable path, Event Viewer, compatibility settings, and application folder |
Fix 1: Identify the program requesting the DLL
Before changing anything, find out which executable is producing the error. This prevents you from reinstalling the wrong program or restoring an unsafe file.
- Read the entire error dialog.
- Note the executable name, if Windows displays one.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for BPS CD Ripper, BPS CD-DVD Rip N’ Burn, Grabber, or an unfamiliar entry that points to an old audio program.
- Right-click a likely entry and choose Open file location, if that option is available.
- In File Explorer, search that folder and its subfolders for
1cb6d9f0.dll.
You can also check installed applications:
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for BPS CD Ripper, Grabber, BPS CD-DVD Rip N’ Burn, or another BulletProofSoft entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside a matching program.
If the program is not listed, check these places:
- The folder named in the error
- Old desktop and Start menu shortcuts
- The Startup folder
- Task Manager’s Startup apps list
- Task Scheduler
- File associations for audio files
- The folder containing the DLL, if you found one
To inspect a shortcut, right-click it, select Properties, and read the Target field. The target tells you which executable is still being launched.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the program is no longer installed
Do not reinstall an obsolete program merely to silence a leftover startup error.
Remove the leftover startup entry instead:
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Select the entry associated with BPS CD Ripper or its old launcher.
- Select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If a shortcut is causing the message, delete only the obsolete shortcut after confirming its target. If a scheduled task is responsible, open Task Scheduler, locate the task that launches the old program, and disable or delete it only after checking its action and name.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall BPS CD Ripper
This is the most appropriate fix when you still need the application.
Try Windows’ repair option
Some older desktop programs expose a repair option through Control Panel.
Recommended Free Tools
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select BPS CD Ripper or the related BulletProofSoft program.
- Look for Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program again.
You can also check the newer Settings interface:
- Press
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
Not every traditional desktop application provides these controls. If there is no repair option, use the original installer.
Reinstall from a trustworthy original source
Use the installer that came with the program, original installation media, or a known-good backup from your own software collection. Preserve any license information before removing the existing installation.
- Back up personal audio files and program settings.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the program’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer.
- If Windows displays a security warning, confirm the file’s location and publisher before proceeding.
- Install the program into its normal application folder.
- Restart again.
- Launch the program from its newly installed shortcut.
A successful repair restores the program’s own files and allows its executable to start without requesting a missing 1cb6d9f0.dll.
If the installer itself is unavailable, do not substitute a random DLL downloaded from the internet. A complete, authentic installer is safer because it restores the DLL together with the correct executable, configuration files, and dependencies.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. This does not automatically mean the file was malicious, but it also does not prove that restoring it is safe.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any entry that mentions BPS CD Ripper, its installer, or
1cb6d9f0.dll. - Check the detected file’s path and detection details.
If the file came from an unknown installer or an untrusted DLL website, leave it quarantined. Obtain a clean application installer instead.

If the file came from an original installer or known-good backup, verify the installer and file before considering Restore or Allow on device. Microsoft advises caution when restoring quarantined files. Do not disable antivirus protection indiscriminately just to make an old program start.
If the file is quarantined again immediately after restoration:

- Run a full security scan.
- Keep the file quarantined.
- Submit the installer or file to the security vendor for analysis.
- Replace the old program with maintained software if no trustworthy installer can be verified.
Fix 4: Check the DLL’s location and authenticity
A legitimate application-private DLL should normally be beside the executable that uses it or within that application’s installation directory.
To inspect it:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Open the General tab and note its location.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check the description, product name, and publisher fields.
- Open Digital Signatures, if that tab exists.
- Select a signature and choose Details.
- Check whether Windows reports that the signature is valid.
A missing signature does not by itself prove malware, particularly for an old application. However, a copy found in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary directory, or an unrelated user’s profile should not be treated as the correct replacement.
Do not rely on a cataloged file size, version, or hash as proof of authenticity. Published records for this filename conflict about metadata, and the available information does not establish a dependable 32-bit and 64-bit file set.
Fix 5: Check for an architecture mismatch
Older Windows applications are often 32-bit, but the available records do not reliably establish the architecture of every 1cb6d9f0.dll build. Do not assume that a file described online as 64-bit is suitable for your installation.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
A 32-bit executable normally needs matching 32-bit dependencies. A 64-bit executable needs matching 64-bit dependencies. Windows may report that a file is missing when the real problem is an incompatible or corrupt binary.
Check the program’s executable:
- Open the application’s installation folder.
- Right-click its main
.exefile. - Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Note the available compatibility settings.
- If the program is clearly legacy software, test Run this program in compatibility mode for an older supported Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the program again.
Do not move a 32-bit DLL into System32 or a 64-bit DLL into SysWOW64. Those folders are not general-purpose storage locations, and moving files there can create additional conflicts.
If the error says the program is “not designed to run on Windows,” reinstall the application from a matching original installer. If that fails, the program may no longer be compatible with current Windows. Running it in a supported older environment may be safer than weakening current system protections.
Fix 6: Check whether another dependency is missing
Windows can report that a specified module could not be found even when 1cb6d9f0.dll is visibly present. In that situation, the named DLL may be loading another dependency that is absent.
First, read the complete error carefully. Look for another filename, runtime name, or application component.
Do not install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages solely because 1cb6d9f0.dll is mentioned. Install a Microsoft runtime only when the error or a reputable diagnostic clearly identifies that runtime as missing.
If the program has an installer, reinstall the whole program before adding separate runtimes. That gives the installer an opportunity to restore the dependencies expected by its own executable.

If the program still fails:
- Open Event Viewer from the Start menu.
- Select Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Read the Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
- Record any additional missing file.
- Search the application folder for that dependency.
- Reinstall the complete application if it is absent.
Fix 7: Use Windows repair commands only for Windows corruption
1cb6d9f0.dll is associated with an application, not a protected Windows system file. Therefore, System File Checker normally will not recreate it.
Use DISM and SFC when Windows itself is unstable, built-in tools are failing, or multiple unrelated system components are damaged. Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test BPS CD Ripper again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command should be expected to restore a private BPS application DLL.
Repeating these commands will not fix an absent application installer. If they report that repairs were completed but the same DLL error remains, return to the BPS installation and antivirus checks.
If manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system issues; its free scan identifies problems, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling BPS CD Ripper remains the definitive fix when this specific application DLL is missing.
Fix 8: Update drivers only when the error identifies a driver
A device driver is not the normal cause of a missing application-private DLL. Do not update every driver as a first response to this error.
Driver work becomes relevant if Device Manager shows an error on the CD/DVD drive, audio device, storage controller, or another device that BPS CD Ripper needs.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives and Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Test the application again.
You can also select Properties on the device and inspect the General tab for a device status message. If Device Manager reports no problem, drivers are unlikely to explain the missing DLL.
If you have several devices and are tired of hunting through hardware entries and guessing which driver is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues; the free scan identifies them, while installing drivers requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling BPS CD Ripper when that program’s own DLL is missing.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 1cb6d9f0.dll
unless the software documentation specifically says that the file is a COM or ActiveX registration server.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable evidence that 1cb6d9f0.dll is such a component. Running the command may produce an error saying that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found.
Registration does not restore a deleted file, repair a damaged installation, supply another missing dependency, or solve a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch. Repair or reinstall the owning application instead.
Why copying the file to System32 is a bad fix
Never copy 1cb6d9f0.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a general solution.
Random DLL download sites may provide:
- A modified or malicious file
- The wrong application build
- The wrong architecture
- A file with missing dependencies
- A file that does not match the executable
- A copy that triggers antivirus detection
Even a genuine DLL may not work when placed in the wrong directory. It can also hide the real problem and cause version conflicts with other software.
The only defensible manual replacement is a verified copy from the original BPS application installer or a known-good backup, placed in the application’s own directory after checking its provenance and compatibility.

When to uninstall the program instead
If you no longer use BPS CD Ripper, removing it is safer than reconstructing an obsolete installation simply to eliminate the error.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for BPS CD Ripper or related BulletProofSoft software.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Task Manager → Startup apps for leftovers.
- Remove obsolete shortcuts only after confirming their targets.
If the program is not listed, remove its startup entry and check Task Scheduler. Do not delete unrelated registry entries manually unless you know exactly what created them.

Windows Update can improve general compatibility and repair broader Windows problems, but there is no evidence that Windows Update distributes 1cb6d9f0.dll.
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after installing software or making a system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore only if the result is acceptable.
System Restore does not guarantee recovery of an old application DLL. Back up important files first.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1cb6d9f0.dll a Windows file?
No evidence identifies it as a Windows-protected system file. It is associated with BPS CD Ripper, a third-party legacy application.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich program uses 1cb6d9f0.dll?
The file is associated with BPS CD Ripper / Grabber from BulletProofSoft. Confirm the requesting executable before reinstalling anything.
Should I download the DLL from a DLL website?
No. The file may be unsafe, mismatched, or the wrong architecture, and replacing it may not restore other missing dependencies.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Only if the complete error or diagnostic identifies a missing Microsoft runtime. The filename itself does not establish that requirement.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
The available records do not reliably establish one architecture for every build. Use a matching installer for the executable rather than trusting a catalog label.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is present?
A dependency loaded by 1cb6d9f0.dll may be missing, or the file may be corrupt or incompatible. Reinstall the application and inspect the full error.
Can regsvr32 repair it?
Usually not. This appears to be an application runtime DLL, not a documented COM or ActiveX registration server.
Will SFC or DISM restore it?
Normally no. Those commands repair Windows components and protected system files, not a private BPS CD Ripper DLL.
What if the application is too old for Windows 11 or Windows 10?
Try the executable’s compatibility settings and reinstall from original media. If it still fails, use maintained software or a properly supported older Windows environment rather than downloading unknown replacement files.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What is the safest resolution?
If you need the program, repair or reinstall the complete BPS CD Ripper installation from a trustworthy original source. If you do not need it, uninstall the program and remove the leftover startup trigger instead of restoring the DLL.
