20 Impressive Palworld Base Designs to Inspire You in Version 1.0.2

These 20 Palworld base designs cover fortresses, villages, production campuses, aquatic builds, resource outposts, and late-game showcases—with practical advice for Pal pathing and the Palbox boundary.

The best Palworld bases combine a strong visual idea with practical routes for Pals, storage, production, and defense. Version 1.0 changed the design possibilities considerably: Palworld now supports aquatic construction, Ancient-style parts, Faux Greenery, new roof pieces, and improved structural placement. It also reworked raids into environment-sensitive waves, so a beautiful mountain, island, or waterfall location is not automatically raid-proof.

Use the 20 concepts below as starting points, then adapt each one to the Palbox boundary, your available Technology level, and the needs of your assigned Work Pals.

Before building: plan around the Palbox

The Palbox defines the operational area of a base. The current reference describes the usable footprint as approximately a nine-foundation-tile radius, although roughly eight tiles are safer to use because the boundary is circular. The approximate vertical limit is 16 foundation tiles. These are practical limits, not a guarantee that every location will provide a perfectly flat or unobstructed building site. See the current base mechanics reference.

Place the Palbox near the center of the flattest usable area whenever possible. Putting it against a cliff, wall, or other obstruction does not expand the base in the opposite direction; it simply wastes part of the circular footprint. Farms, Ranches, and most production facilities must remain inside the boundary.

Remember that relocating a Palbox requires dismantling the existing one and rebuilding elsewhere. Move stored materials and remove important structures first, because dismantling the old base can also remove structures inside it.

20 Palworld base designs

1. Walled Fortress

Build a stone compound around a central courtyard, with defensive walls, a gate, watchtower-like platforms, and a compact production area inside. It is one of the clearest ways to make a base feel like a defensible settlement rather than a collection of machines.

Stone unlocks at Technology level 18. Stone walls are more durable than wooden walls and avoid wood’s fire vulnerability. Gates must be placed on the ground; they cannot sit on top of another structure. Defensive walls can be placed on foundations and floors, but they do not snap to them, so expect some manual alignment.

Walls can delay or redirect attackers, but they do not make the location immune to raids. In 1.0, raids arrive in waves and enemy types vary according to the environment.

2. Stone Village

Instead of one large building, create several small stone structures around a shared courtyard. One building can hold storage, another crafting stations, another beds, and another food or production facilities.

This layout is practical because each function has a visually distinct home while remaining inside one Palbox area. Keep the courtyard and connecting paths wide enough for large Pals. A village also makes it easier to expand one building without redesigning the entire base.

Do not treat reports that a particular village location “didn’t get raids” as a permanent mechanic. Raid behavior can change with the current system and environment.

3. Hilltop Courtyard

Use a mountain-top or hillside clearing as the setting for a walled courtyard with flat foundation platforms, perimeter walls, and buildings arranged along the cliff edge. The elevation creates a dramatic silhouette and gives the base a natural sense of separation.

The difficulty is not just construction. Structures outside the Palbox boundary can deteriorate according to the world’s Structure Deterioration Rate. Check that your platforms and decorative extensions are within the operational area, or adjust the setting if you deliberately want a larger showcase build.

A cliff is also not proof against raids. The 1.0 raid system uses successive waves and environment-dependent enemy types.

4. Multi-Level Stone Fortress

Stack a ground-level compound with upper floors for storage, farms, crafting, or a player residence. A central stairwell, external balconies, and a roofline with towers can make a relatively small footprint look like a substantial fortress.

Stone pieces have 1,000 hit points per piece. Metal pieces unlock at Technology level 30 and have 2,000 hit points, making them a strong late-game upgrade for high-value areas.

Design for Pal navigation before adding detail. Large Pals may fail to use narrow doors, cramped stairs, or crowded upper floors even when the player can move through them. Keep important work routes short and test each floor before sealing it with decorative walls.

5. Waterfall Lodge

Build a lodge against a waterfall or hillside, using the natural rock face as the backdrop and a broad porch or balcony as the visual centerpiece. Multiple approaches, terraces, and warm interior lighting can turn the location into a scenic retreat.

This is primarily an aesthetic design. A waterfall does not automatically prevent raids. For a permanent version, stone is safer than a wood-heavy construction because wooden structures are vulnerable to fire-related damage.

Leave the practical base area open behind or beside the lodge rather than forcing every bed, farm, and workstation into the scenic building.

6. Waterfall Stone Warehouse

Create a tall stone storage-and-production building above a waterfall, with farms and utility facilities in an outdoor yard below or beside it. The contrast between a vertical stone façade and open agricultural space gives the base a strong industrial-estate appearance.

Keep the main storage area, production facilities, and farms inside the Palbox boundary. The waterfall can frame the building, but it should not dictate a layout that forces Pals to travel through narrow interiors or climb unnecessary floors.

Use the upper levels for player-facing rooms and visual storage displays; place essential Pal workstations on the easiest accessible level.

7. Ruins Base

Turn an existing ruin into the foundation of a new settlement. Add deliberate foundations, walls, roofs, floors, lighting, and production rooms around the surviving geometry to create an “adaptive reuse” base.

World ruins are scenery, not automatically usable player structures. They do not necessarily provide structural support, protect facilities from deterioration, or count as part of your base. Add the pieces you need instead of assuming the ruin is functional.

This concept works particularly well when the new construction clearly contrasts with the old stone: a modern workshop inside an ancient shell, a farm built around broken walls, or a fortified ruin with a new gate.

8. Hillside Mansion

Build a multi-level stone home into a slope, placing the player’s living space above workshops, storage, and utility rooms. Balconies, retaining walls, large windows, and a staggered foundation line make the terrain part of the architecture.

The risk is inefficiency. Pals may struggle with narrow rooms, multiple floors, long routes, or blocked entrances to food, beds, storage, and workstations. Treat the mansion as the player’s residence and keep a simpler open work yard nearby if you want the aesthetic without sacrificing reliability.

Community showcase builds often separate visual quality from optimized base performance. A mansion can be impressive without being the best possible production layout.

9. Stone Castle

For a late-game showcase, build a full castle with outer walls, towers, a gatehouse, an inner courtyard, a central keep, and farms outside or in protected courtyards. Stone, metal, Japanese-style, futuristic, and Ancient pieces can all support different interpretations of the same idea.

Castle walls and towers are excellent for visual scale, but they consume a large amount of the practical footprint. Put farms and essential workstations where Pals have the clearest routes, then reserve towers and ceremonial rooms for decoration.

An island or mountain castle is not permanently raid-proof. Current raids use waves and environment-sensitive enemies.

10. Japanese-Style Courtyard

Build a shrine, pagoda, or ryokan-inspired compound around an open courtyard. Use pillars, low rooflines, separated rooms, gardens, bridges, and a central path to create a calm layout instead of a dense industrial block.

The Japanese-Style Structure Set unlocks at Technology level 50 for 2 Technology Points. Its listed pieces include foundations, walls, windows, triangular walls, two roof types, slanted roofs, stairs, three door types, and pillars. Each listed piece costs 4 Wood and has 500 hit points.

Because the set is less durable than stone or metal, use it for a residence, courtyard, or themed settlement—or combine it with a sturdier functional core.

11. Glass Greenhouse

Use transparent walls and roofs to create a bright farming and breeding complex, with interior lighting, central paths, and visible rows of facilities. A greenhouse can be both a practical food-production zone and one of the most attractive base themes.

The Glass Structure Set unlocks at Technology level 39 for 2 Technology Points. Its pieces have 2,000 hit points and use Stone and Paldium Fragment according to the structure-set listing.

Do not fill every section with tiny sealed rooms. Open lanes, wide entrances, and clear access around farms and workstations are more important than making every machine sit inside a separate glass box.

12. Futuristic Factory

Design a high-tech industrial campus around assembly lines, power facilities, storage, elevated walkways, and bright lighting. Use repeated structural modules and separated production wings to evoke a functioning factory rather than a single room full of machines.

The Futuristic Structure Set unlocks at Technology level 61 for 2 Technology Points. Its listed structural pieces have 2,000 hit points and cost Polymer. Version 1.0 also added Ancient-style parts, making a particularly effective visual contrast possible: futuristic production floors inside or beside an ancient complex.

Keep walkways decorative where necessary, but give Work Pals direct ground-level access to the facilities they use most.

13. Aquatic Seafront Base

Build a dock, pier, floating workshop, or offshore research station along the coast using the Aquatic Construction Kit. This is now a supported 1.0 building concept, not merely an exploit-based showcase.

Palworld 1.0 added aquatic construction specifically for shoreline and sea bases. Older tutorials claiming that water construction requires collision tricks, mods, or exploits are outdated for supported 1.0 building.

Start with the Palbox and confirm the usable boundary before committing to a large pier. Combine a compact land-based work yard with a scenic offshore extension so essential facilities remain easy for Pals to reach.

14. Oil Refinery

Plan an oil base around the Crude Oil Extractor’s location rather than around cosmetic symmetry. Arrange power generation, storage, processing, and maintenance space around the extractor, leaving wide routes around the largest machines.

The 1.0 base-level progression includes the Crude Oil Extractor among its later objectives. A dedicated refinery works best as a specialized resource base: functional, compact, and close to the source.

Keep storage and power facilities close enough to reduce unnecessary Pal travel, but avoid packing them so tightly that large Pals cannot access their work areas.

15. Mining Outpost

Build a compact outpost beside ore or another usable resource deposit. Include minimal housing, concentrated storage, beds, food access, and the mining facilities required for the site.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Version 1.0 increased ore distribution in the overworld, expanding the number of potentially useful resource-base locations. Prioritize proximity to the target resource over grandeur; a small efficient outpost is usually more valuable than a castle that leaves the workers far from their tasks.

Do not assume every ore node can be permanently farmed from inside the Palbox. Check the exact location in-game before planning around it.

16. Ranch Village

Create a pastoral compound with multiple Ranches, barns, feed storage, beds, paths, and decorative fencing. Separate ranch areas with open yards rather than narrow fenced corridors, and use a central storehouse to make the settlement feel intentional.

Ranches must be inside the Palbox boundary. Keep entrances and feed access unobstructed; decorative fencing can interfere with Pal movement. The 1.0 changelog also lists fixes for ranch assignments resetting after login, but sensible access remains important for reliable operation.

Use stone or another durable material for permanent buildings, and reserve more fragile decorative pieces for low-risk accents.

17. Breeding Campus

Dedicate one base to Breeding Farms, hatcheries, cake production, storage, and a separate living area. A campus layout can use a central food and storage hub with breeding facilities arranged along wide paths.

Community megabases often separate breeding, food production, Pal upgrading, ranching, and resource gathering into specialized facilities. This is a design choice, not a requirement. The standard progression reaches four bases per guild at base level 25, so specialization becomes more practical as your base capacity grows.

Place food storage near breeding facilities and keep the entrances clear. The fewer unnecessary trips Pals must make between cake production, storage, and breeding, the easier the campus is to manage.

18. Compact Starter Cabin

Begin with a small cabin that can expand without being demolished: a bed, Wooden Chest, Primitive Workbench, Campfire, Repair Bench, and basic Pal facilities. Leave one side or rear wall open for future additions.

Early base objectives require a deployed worker Pal, a Wooden Chest, and a Primitive Workbench. Later objectives include a Campfire, Shoddy Bed, and Repair Bench. This makes the cabin a useful early-game template rather than a permanent megabase.

Keep the first layout simple. Later production systems need much more room, and a cramped starter cabin is easier to replace than to force into a late-game factory.

19. Open-Air Production Campus

Use a largely roofless layout with separate work zones, wide paths, minimal decorative walls, and clearly visible storage, food, beds, and hot springs. It may look less like a traditional building, but it is often one of the most dependable ways to organize a busy base.

Community players frequently report that heavily enclosed aesthetic bases can cause unpredictable Pal behavior, while open layouts make access easier to inspect and repair. This is an observed design practice, not an official guarantee.

Add roofs, walls, and decorative rooms around the perimeter after the production flow works. Function first, visual enclosure second.

20. Vertical Spiral Skyrise

Build a tower or spiral megabase with stacked floors, ramps, platforms, and production levels. The spiral can create a striking skyline, with player rooms and display areas on the upper floors and practical facilities near the ground.

A community showcase featured a 137-level spiral skyrise, but its creator reported that part of the structure exceeded the Palbox area and required lowering the Structure Deterioration Rate. The current base reference lists an approximate vertical build limit of 16 foundation tiles, so extreme heights should not be treated as universally available inside a standard base boundary.

Separate the decorative showcase from the Pal work area. A tower can be a spectacular monument even if only its lower section functions as an efficient base.

Controls that make large builds easier

On PC, press B to open the build menu, use Q and E to change categories, and 1 and 3 to change pages. Place with the left mouse button and place repeatedly with the right mouse button. Use the mouse wheel to rotate, Alt to change placement mode, and Ctrl to toggle snapping.

4 toggles replace mode, F favorites a structure, C switches build mode or opens dismantle mode, and P opens painting mode. The full Palworld 1.0 controls reference lists the corresponding controller bindings: D-pad Up opens building, X places, Y places repeatedly, and R3 handles replace or dismantle actions.

Progression and server limits

Base level currently runs from 1 to 35. Standard progression provides one base initially, a second at base level 8, a third at level 15, and a fourth at level 25. The frequently repeated claim that Palworld still has a maximum of three bases is outdated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Normal progression reaches 30 possible workers per base at base level 30, but the default active workforce setting is 15. On a dedicated server, the official documentation lists a maximum parameter value of 50 for workers per base.

Relevant dedicated-server parameters include:

BaseCampMaxNum=4
BaseCampMaxNumInGuild=4
BaseCampWorkerMaxNum=15
MaxBuildingLimitNum=0

BaseCampMaxNum controls total bases across the server, BaseCampMaxNumInGuild controls the guild limit, BaseCampWorkerMaxNum controls workers per base, and MaxBuildingLimitNum=0 means no per-player building limit. Increasing base or worker limits raises processing load.

Changing world settings

For a solo or hosted co-op world, return to the Title Screen, select the world, open World Settings, change the required setting, and launch the world.

For a dedicated server, edit the active configuration file and restart the server. Do not edit DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini and expect the changes to apply. The official configuration documentation specifies the active paths.

Common problems to avoid

  • Pals get stuck: Widen doors and corridors, reduce stair congestion, separate large machines, and keep beds, food, storage, and workstations on short routes.
  • Structures deteriorate: Check whether extensions are outside the Palbox boundary and review Structure Deterioration Rate.
  • A cliff wastes space: Reposition the Palbox toward the center of the flattest area instead of building around a boundary that is already obstructed.
  • Wood burns or suffers fire damage: Use stone for permanent buildings in fire-prone locations; keep wood for temporary or decorative structures.
  • Old water-building guides fail: Use the supported Aquatic Construction Kit in 1.0 rather than relying on old collision exploits or mods.
  • Old save boundary issues: If a save carried forward from version 0.7.3 or earlier places the player outside the updated boundary, use Emergency Escape from the Options menu.
