Among the games that topped 2025 charts, Battlefield 6 led U.S. console and PC full-game grossing, while EA SPORTS FC 26 ranked first among Germany’s bestselling new PC and console releases. Those results measure different markets in different ways; they are not a worldwide ranking.
How the 2025 best-sellers were measured
The year is over, so the useful question is which anticipated games actually performed strongly in the available year-end charts. The clearest evidence comes from two distinct datasets: a U.S. ranking by full-game consumer spending and a German ranking of reported sales for new PC and console releases.

Because the measures and coverage differ, the two lists should not be merged into a single global leaderboard. Neither source establishes a comprehensive worldwide ranking or individual unit totals.
Which games led the U.S. chart?
The ESA’s February 2026 release places Battlefield 6 first among U.S. console and PC full games by 2025 consumer spending. The next four titles were NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, Monster Hunter: Wilds, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This is a grossing result, not a count of copies sold.

The broader U.S. market reached $60.7 billion in video-game consumer spending in 2025, up 1.4% from 2024. Content spending totaled $52.3 billion, compared with $51.7 billion in 2024, and consumer spending on subscription services grew 20%. Those market-wide figures provide context, but they do not show how much any one listed game earned.

This ranking covers submitted physical and digital sales data, with Nintendo eShop digital sales excluded. The association says some successful releases, including ARC Raiders, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, do not appear because their publishers did not submit data. Their absence is not evidence that they sold poorly.
What happened to the pre-2025 expectations?
In August 2024, Circana described potential for U.S. market growth in 2025, citing an expected new Nintendo hardware platform and strong anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI. That was a broad outlook for the market, not a sales forecast for individual games. It cannot be treated as proof that a specific anticipated release became a best-seller.

The defensible retrospective is therefore specific: Battlefield 6 was the U.S. full-game grossing leader and a high-ranking new release in Germany; different leaders emerged in the two countries’ charts. The available data does not establish one worldwide best-seller or settle how every pre-release prediction performed.
