Eclipse of the Heart, released in July 2025, is the final quest in RuneScape’s Desert storyline. It closes a saga that began with Prince Ali Rescue in 2001 and completes the three-quest Return to the Desert arc.

Which RuneScape story ended after 24 years?

It was the Desert storyline in RuneScape—not Old School RuneScape’s separate Myreque questline. PC Gamer dates the opening quest, Prince Ali Rescue, to February 28, 2001, and reports that Jagex described the saga as a 24-year-old storyline when announcing its conclusion in 2025. The span is from that first quest to the 2025 finale, not a claim that one continuous quest was in development for 24 years.

At RuneFest 2025, Jagex announced the Return to the Desert trilogy as the conclusion of the story. Mod Zura, quoted by PC Gamer, said: “More recently, you’ve made it clear that you want us to finish older storylines. Starting with last year’s Ode of the Devourer, and continuing with the Return to the Desert Trilogy, we are finally bringing this 24-year-old storyline to its conclusion.”

What is the final Desert quest?

Eclipse of the Heart is the concluding quest. It followed Beneath Scabaras’ Sands and Pharaoh’s Folly, in that order. Pocket Gamer reported that Eclipse of the Heart went live on July 29, 2025.

The finale brings the storyline’s conflict with Amascut, the Devourer, to a head and concerns the fate of Menaphos. Completing the quest also unlocks an Amascut boss encounter; that encounter is a related post-quest activity, not the quest itself.

What are the reported requirements and rewards?

Pocket Gamer’s July 2025 post-release report lists the following. These are secondary-source details rather than a current official quest-page check, so verify the requirements in game if you are using them to plan a playthrough.

Reported requirements

  • RuneScape membership
  • 90 Necromancy
  • 65 Agility
  • Prior story progress, including Pharaoh’s Folly, Do No Evil, and Fort Forinthry

Reported rewards

  • A title and Lorehound cosmetics
  • The Amascut’s Eye skybox
  • Four lamps granting 250,000 XP each
  • Upgraded Magic Carpet Dust
  • Toggleable buffs

Because these requirements and reward figures come from a July 2025 report, they should not be treated as guaranteed current values if the game has since changed.

Keep the two RuneScape finales separate

Eclipse of the Heart concludes the Desert storyline in RuneScape. The Blood Moon Rises belongs to Old School RuneScape’s Myreque storyline. They are finales in different games and different questlines, not chapters of one shared story.
