GamesRadar+ ranked Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as its best game of 2025, with Hades II and Donkey Kong Bananza rounding out its top three. The ranking covers games released between December 1, 2024, and November 30, 2025—not every game released during the 2025 calendar year—and excludes remasters, expansions, and early-access titles. It is an editorial list, not a platform-neutral score table or a claim that every game runs on every console.
How this 2025 games ranking was made
GamesRadar+ Editor-in-Chief Josh West says staff members submitted ranked top-ten ballots, which were used to form the final list. The publication’s eligibility window was December 1, 2024, through November 30, 2025; remasters, expansions, and early-access games were excluded. That cutoff explains why Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a 2024 release, appears: GamesRadar+ says its PC and Xbox Series X release came after the voting cutoff. How to choose by platform and play style
The ranking includes PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, but no single game is listed for all of them. For a quick shortlist, start with the system you own, then match the game’s format to how you want to play.
- For Switch 2: Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World are listed for Switch 2 only; Hades II and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are listed for both Switch generations.
- For a PS5-only experience: GamesRadar+ lists Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for PS5 only.
- For two-player co-op: Split Fiction is explicitly built for two players, locally or online in split-screen.
- For a story-led RPG: Consider the top-ranked Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, or compare the science-fiction and fantasy settings of The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed.
- For PC availability: Peak is the only PC-only entry in the supplied platform listings; several others also appear on consoles.
How this list compares with other 2025 awards
There is no single cross-platform consensus ranking established by these lists. GameSpot published its own separate 10 best games of 2025; its editorial process and eligibility rules should not be merged with GamesRadar+’s placements.
Audience awards also measure something different. In PlayStation’s player-voted 2025 awards, Ghost of Yōtei won Best PS5 Game and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 placed second. PlayStation Blog reported nearly 1.5 million votes across its 19 award categories; that figure applies to that awards program, not the games industry overall. PlayStation Blog’s winners announcement.
