25 Useful Discord Bots to Enhance Your Server (2026)

The best Discord bot is the one that solves a specific server problem. Here are 25 current options, native Discord alternatives, permission and privacy guidance, setup steps, and recommended stacks for gaming, creator, Roblox, anime, and friend servers.

The best Discord bot stack is usually small: start with Discord’s built-in AutoMod, Onboarding, Scheduled Events, Forum Channels, polls, and integrations, then add one primary moderation bot and only the specialized apps your server actually needs. For many servers, that means Carl-bot or Dyno plus a ticket, events, creator-notification, backup, or game bot—not all 25 tools on this list.

This updated guide groups useful Discord bots by the problem they solve. Features, pricing, permissions, commands, and availability can change, so use the linked developer page or Discord App Directory listing as the final check before installing.

Updated August 10, 2026: Bot availability, Discord features, and setup guidance checked against current documentation where available. Some integrations—especially music, translation, AI, and third-party verification—are particularly subject to change.

Check Discord’s native tools before adding a bot

Discord now handles several jobs that older bot lists treated as bot-only features. Installing an app creates another permission set, another dashboard, another source of notifications, and potentially another place where member or message data is stored.

Logitech MK270 Full Size Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo - Black
  • Reliable Plug and Play: The USB receiver provides a reliable wireless connection up to 33 ft (1), so you can forget about drop-outs and delays and you can take it wherever you use your computer
  • Type in Comfort: The design of this keyboard creates a comfortable typing experience thanks to the low-profile, quiet keys and standard layout with full-size F-keys, number pad, and arrow keys
  • Durable and Resilient: This full-size wireless keyboard features a spill-resistant design (2), durable keys and sturdy tilt legs with adjustable height
  • Long Battery Life: MK270 combo features a 36-month keyboard and 12-month mouse battery life (3), along with on/off switches allowing you to go months without the hassle of changing batteries

  • AutoMod: available to all servers for keyword and spam-content filtering. Custom keyword rules can contain up to 1,000 terms, with each term limited to 60 characters. Mention-spam rules support a limit of up to 50 mentions per message.
  • Community Onboarding: lets new members choose channels and roles by answering questions under Server Settings > Onboarding. Current setup requires at least seven default channels, including at least five that let @everyone view and send messages.
  • Scheduled Events: supports events in voice channels, Stage channels, and other locations. Discord documents a maximum of 100 scheduled events at one time and a 99-participant limit for voice-channel events.
  • Forum Channels: provide persistent posts, tags, search, guidelines, and built-in AutoMod support for supported Community servers.
  • Native polls and integrations: may be enough for simple polls, announcements, or supported Twitch and YouTube connections.

Use a bot when it offers a meaningful advantage—such as advanced role logic, transcripts, cross-service feeds, backups, Roblox rank synchronization, or a game system—not merely because a list says every server needs one.

Quick picks: which Discord bot fits your server?

Bot or app Best for Pricing and availability Main caution
Carl-bot General moderation and reaction roles Free features with possible limits on advanced tools Do not duplicate its automod and role systems elsewhere
Dyno Straightforward moderation Free tier; some advanced automod controls are premium Its role must be above members it moderates
YAGPDB Advanced customization Free with limits; premium expands capacity More complex to configure
MEE6 Beginner-friendly all-in-one setup Freemium; premium plugins and limits vary Compare the free and premium features before subscribing
ProBot Welcome messages, embeds, roles, and logs Free and premium features; check its dashboard Feature limits can change
Wick Anti-raid and anti-nuke security Free and premium security features may vary Overly aggressive rules can quarantine legitimate users
Ticket Tool Private support tickets Free and paid capabilities may vary Plan transcript retention and staff access
sesh Events, RSVPs, time zones, and polls Free and premium options Its RSVP list may differ from Discord’s native event viewer
Apollo Recurring events and attendance Free with premium reminders, roles, or scheduled posts Advanced attendance features may be paywalled
Xenon Server backups and templates Free structure backups; premium adds more data A backup is not a complete disaster-recovery plan
Statbot Server analytics Free and premium limits vary Activity statistics have privacy and culture implications
MonitoRSS RSS, Reddit, YouTube, and news feeds Hosted free tier supports up to three feeds, with delivery described as every 20 minutes Use filters to avoid notification spam
Streamcord Twitch and YouTube creator notifications Free and premium limits vary Verify currently supported services in its dashboard
Tatsu Leveling, rewards, and community economy Free features with optional economy benefits Levels can encourage spam and grinding
Bloxlink Roblox verification and role sync Free and premium options may vary Use only official Bloxlink verification links
Jockie Music Voice-channel music Free playback features; premium includes documented 24/7 access Music sources and availability can change rapidly
FreeStuff Temporary free-game alerts Free alert service; check current terms “Free” means a temporary 100% discount, not necessarily free-to-play
Dank Memer Memes and casual economy games Free game features with possible premium options Gambling-style mechanics are not suitable for every audience
Mudae Anime-character collection Free game with optional paid features Use a dedicated game channel to contain roll and claim spam
Arcane Leveling and engagement Verify current dashboard, pricing, and availability The older feature set should not be assumed current
Tupperbox Roleplay character personas Availability and terms should be checked before installation Configure safeguards against impersonation
EPIC RPG Text-based RPG gameplay Verify current availability and feature set Keep its commands in a game channel
Karuta Anime card collecting and trading Verify current availability and economy features Trading and scarcity can create intense competition
PokeMeow Pokémon-style collection gameplay Verify current availability and feature set It is entertainment, not server administration
Discord Translator Multilingual communities Verify that the exact app is live and supported Check which external translation service receives message content

Best moderation and security bots

1. Carl-bot — the broad general-purpose choice

Carl-bot is a strong fit when one app needs to cover several everyday jobs: reaction roles, logging, custom commands, greetings, reminders, suggestions, feeds, and configurable moderation. It is especially useful for communities that want a dashboard rather than a collection of small single-purpose apps.

Use it for role menus, moderation logs, self-assignable roles, and routine automations. Avoid enabling the same autoresponder, welcome flow, reaction-role panel, or automod rule in Carl-bot and another general-purpose bot. Two bots acting on the same message can create duplicate punishments, conflicting roles, and noisy logs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Dyno — straightforward moderation with a dashboard

Dyno focuses on practical administration: mod logs, timed mutes and bans, autoroles, announcements, reminders, and configurable automod. It is a sensible primary bot for owners who want a relatively direct setup process and clear server-level controls.

Some advanced automod controls are premium. Dyno also needs the right permissions, including the ability to manage messages or timeout, ban, and manage roles where those actions are enabled. Its role must sit above the members it needs to moderate.

Dyno automod setup

  1. Log in to the Dyno dashboard and select your server.
  2. Open Modules or select Automod.
  3. Enable the Automod module and choose a default log channel.
  4. Create a rule, select a filter, choose the action, and save it.

If Dyno appears installed but does nothing, check whether its role is below the target member’s role, whether the bot can see and write in the channel, whether the channel or user has been ignored, and whether administrators or configured moderators are exempt. Also confirm that the rule has an action and a working log channel.

3. YAGPDB — powerful customization for experienced admins

YAGPDB is a good choice when standard moderation presets are not enough. Its modular tools cover automod, feeds, self-assignable roles, custom commands, logging, reminders, and notifications. It can replace several narrower bots, provided an administrator is willing to learn its configuration model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The trade-off is complexity. YAGPDB is less beginner-friendly than a simple moderation dashboard, and premium plans increase limits. Use it when you need custom behavior—not simply because it has a long feature list.

4. MEE6 — polished onboarding for beginners

MEE6 offers a polished dashboard with moderation, custom commands, welcome tools, leveling, and engagement plugins. It can be convenient for a new community manager who wants guided configuration and several features in one interface.

Do not describe MEE6 as the best value for every server. Its free and premium plugins are not equivalent, and the feature that attracted you may require a subscription or have usage limits. Compare the current dashboard with Carl-bot, Dyno, YAGPDB, and Discord’s native tools before paying.

5. ProBot — welcome messages, embeds, roles, and logs

ProBot is a multipurpose alternative for welcome images, embeds, self-assignable roles, leveling, moderation, logs, and tickets. It is useful when presentation matters—for example, a gaming community that wants a branded welcome message and role-selection flow alongside ordinary moderation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the current dashboard for exact limits and premium requirements. Choose one primary bot for welcome messages, logs, and automod rather than installing ProBot alongside several bots that perform the same jobs.

6. Wick — specialized anti-raid and anti-nuke protection

Wick is designed for higher-risk public servers. Its security features include join gates, anti-raid and anti-nuke protection, verification, lockdowns, and detailed moderation logs.

It is usually overkill for a private friend server. Security automation can also harm legitimate users if configured too aggressively: staff members may be quarantined, VPN users may be blocked, and an unusual but valid join wave may trigger a lockdown. Test Wick with a restricted staff role and document how to disable or bypass a rule before relying on it.

No anti-raid bot guarantees prevention. Combine it with Discord’s native AutoMod, sensible verification, restricted permissions, and a manual appeal path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Support, events, backups, and administration

7. Ticket Tool — private support workflows

Ticket Tool creates private support channels from ticket panels. It supports categories, forms, automation, transcripts, and dashboard-based workflows, making it useful for game communities, creator servers, commissions, bug reports, and ban appeals.

Amazon Basics Wired QWERTY Keyboard, Works with Windows, Plug and Play, Easy to Use with Media Control, Full-Sized, Black
  • KEYBOARD: The keyboard works for Windows with hot keys that enable easy access to Media, My Computer, Mute, Volume up/down, and Calculator
  • EASY SETUP: Experience simple installation with the USB wired connection
  • VERSATILE COMPATIBILITY: This keyboard is designed to work with multiple Windows versions, including Vista, 7, 8, 10 offering broad compatibility across devices.
  • SLEEK DESIGN: The elegant black color of the wired keyboard complements your tech and decor, adding a stylish and cohesive look to any setup without sacrificing function.
  • FULL-SIZED CONVENIENCE: The standard QWERTY layout of this keyboard set offers a familiar typing experience, ideal for both professional tasks and personal use.

Plan the process before installing it. Decide which staff roles can see tickets, how long transcripts are retained, who can close or delete them, and how sensitive information is handled. A ticket channel should not automatically be visible to every moderator simply because they have a general staff role.

8. sesh — events, time zones, RSVPs, and polls

sesh is useful for gaming sessions, study groups, watch parties, raids, and international communities. It supports event creation, RSVPs, reminders, time-zone conversion, polls, Google Calendar links, event threads, and slash commands including /create, /poll, /list, /timestamp, and /dashboard.

Its important limitation is that Sesh’s own RSVP system is separate from Discord’s native event viewer in some workflows. According to the Sesh manual, members need to RSVP through the Sesh event message for Sesh to recognize their attendance. Tell members which RSVP method to use instead of mixing both systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Apollo — recurring events and attendance

Apollo is another strong event option, particularly for recurring raids, classes, meetings, tournaments, and community activities. It can handle signups, reminders, event threads, and scheduled event posts. Some advanced reminders, roles, and scheduled-post features are premium.

Choose Apollo over Sesh when recurring schedules and attendance workflows are the priority. If you only need a one-off event reminder, Discord’s native Scheduled Events may be simpler.

10. Xenon — server structure backups and templates

Xenon can save or copy server structure, including channels, roles, and settings. According to its current site, free backups cover core structure while premium features add data such as messages, bans, and member information.

Use Xenon as a recovery aid, not as a complete backup strategy. A restored server may still require reauthorizing bots, recreating external webhooks, reconnecting Twitch, YouTube, Google Calendar, or Roblox accounts, restoring dashboard settings, and checking channel overrides. Loading a backup can alter or overwrite server structure, so test restoration on a separate staging server first. Xenon also documents that a backup is linked to the account that created it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Current Discord clients support Xenon slash commands, although older prefix commands remain in some documentation. Prefer the current command list shown in the bot’s help interface.

11. Statbot — activity and server analytics

Statbot tracks message, voice, activity, status, and member-count statistics. It can create statistical channel counters and assign roles based on statistics.

Analytics can help identify an inactive channel or see when members are online, but they can also encourage unhealthy activity competition. Tell members what is being measured, restrict analytics dashboards and logs to appropriate staff, and review the bot’s retention and privacy terms before enabling detailed tracking.

Notifications and service integrations

12. MonitoRSS — RSS, Reddit, YouTube, and news feeds

MonitoRSS delivers customizable feeds to Discord. It supports filtering, custom formatting, notifications, and article extraction, making it useful for gaming news, patch notes, subreddit updates, blogs, and project announcements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the hosted service, the free tier is described as supporting up to three feeds with free delivery every 20 minutes. Self-hosting removes the hosted feed limit, but it shifts maintenance and uptime responsibility to you. Setup is dashboard-based: add the bot, open the dashboard, choose a popular feed or paste a URL, select a channel, and configure keyword, author, topic, embed, or message filters.

Older documentation says public-bot commands were disabled, so do not rely on old command examples. Use the current dashboard.

13. Streamcord — Twitch and YouTube creator alerts

Streamcord is aimed at creator and streamer communities. It provides stream notifications, live roles, filters, custom messages, and stream-schedule synchronization.

Its current homepage and documentation advertise Twitch and YouTube support, while an older FAQ described Twitch-only support. Treat the current dashboard as authoritative for supported services, limits, and premium features.

  1. Create a stream-announcement channel.
  2. Adjust that channel’s permissions.
  3. Add Streamcord under roles or members.
  4. Grant only the ability to view the channel, send messages, embed links, attach files, and mention the intended notification role.
  5. Configure the streamer and filters in the dashboard.

14. Bloxlink — Roblox verification and role synchronization

Bloxlink is the specialized choice for Roblox communities. It links Roblox accounts to Discord, verifies members, synchronizes Roblox group ranks, and can bind Roblox assets or ranks to Discord roles. Current documentation uses /verify to begin verification and /setup for server configuration.

Only use blox.link or the official Discord app listing. Never enter Roblox credentials into an unfamiliar verification page or follow a link posted by an untrusted account. Linking Roblox and Discord identities also creates an external-account privacy consideration that should be disclosed to members.

15. FreeStuff — temporary free-game alerts

FreeStuff announces games that become temporarily free or receive a 100% discount. Configure it with /settings and select the notification channel.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set expectations accurately: “free” means a temporary 100% discount, not necessarily a permanent free-to-play release. Use a dedicated deals channel or a role opt-in so alerts do not interrupt normal conversation.

Leveling and community engagement

16. Tatsu — levels, rewards, and a community economy

Tatsu adds server points, global credits, reward stores, badges, profile cards, and engagement incentives. It suits communities that want lightweight progression or cosmetic rewards.

Keep rewards community-oriented and avoid making essential access depend on message volume. Economy and leveling systems can encourage low-effort posting, spam, or grinding. Use cooldowns, channel exclusions, and role caps to keep the system from becoming the server’s main activity.

17. Arcane — leveling and engagement tools

Arcane has historically been used for leveling, role rewards, reaction roles, YouTube notifications, logging, and moderation. It may be a good alternative if its current dashboard matches your needs.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Because the available research does not establish every current feature, price, or availability detail, verify those points immediately before installation. Do not carry old claims or legacy commands into a current server guide without checking the live dashboard.

18. Dank Memer — memes and casual economy games

Dank Memer is primarily an entertainment bot, with meme commands, image interactions, currency, and game mechanics including gambling-style activities.

It can work well in a casual friend or gaming server, but it is not a moderation solution. Consider age suitability, server rules, and whether gambling-style mechanics fit your community. Put its commands in a dedicated channel if the bot’s responses would otherwise overwhelm general chat.

Music, games, roleplay, and translation

19. Jockie Music — voice-channel music

Jockie Music is a dedicated music bot with queues and voice-channel playback. Its official FAQ documents setup, permissions, and premium 24/7 access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Music bots are unusually volatile. Source availability, copyright enforcement, hosting, and premium policies can change quickly. Do not promise permanent YouTube support, every-platform compatibility, unlimited 24/7 playback, or uninterrupted uptime without checking the current interface. A music bot generally needs voice permissions such as Connect and Speak, not moderation, webhook, role-management, or channel-management access.

20. Mudae — anime-character collection

Mudae is a large anime and gaming-character collection game with server and global game data. Members roll for characters, claim them, and interact with a persistent collection system.

It can dominate a general chat with rolls, claims, and economy messages. Create a dedicated game channel, set clear trading rules, and review the bot’s privacy policy before enabling it.

21. EPIC RPG — a text-based RPG loop

EPIC RPG adds quests, combat, equipment, dungeons, inventory, and a server game loop. It is suitable for a community that actively wants a persistent text game, not for an owner looking for administration tools.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Availability and commands should be checked in the bot’s current help output before installation. Keep its high-volume commands in a game channel.

22. Karuta — anime cards and trading

Karuta adds collectible anime cards, trading, progression, and a persistent game economy. It is a natural fit for anime communities that want collecting to be a central activity.

Card scarcity and trading can create intense competition. Establish rules for trades, scams, bot spam, and real-money transactions before turning it loose in a public server. Verify the current hosted bot and its features first.

23. PokeMeow — Pokémon-style collection gameplay

PokeMeow provides a Pokémon-inspired collection game with catching, quests, rarities, currencies, and rewards.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use it only when members want a persistent game. It does not replace moderation, onboarding, or event management, and its commands belong in a dedicated channel. Confirm current availability and command syntax from the live bot interface.

24. Tupperbox — roleplay personas

Tupperbox is a niche roleplay tool that lets members send messages through configured character identities. It can make a roleplay server much easier to use than manually formatting every character message.

Because messages appear under character personas, configure staff controls, character ownership rules, and clear anti-impersonation safeguards. Tupperbox is not a general-purpose moderation or welcome bot, and its current listing and support status should be checked before installation.

25. Discord Translator — multilingual communication

Discord Translator may help multilingual communities translate messages between languages, but the exact app’s current status, supported languages, command model, and external translation provider need verification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume translation is automatic or private. Find out whether translation is channel-based, command-based, or triggered by reactions, and whether message content is sent to a third-party service. If the bot is not live in the App Directory or its developer does not provide a current privacy policy, choose another solution or use a manually configured integration.

How to add a Discord bot safely

Use the App Directory or the developer’s verified site

On desktop or in a browser, open your server, select the server name in the upper-left, and go to Server Settings > App Directory. Select the app, review its overview, permissions, data access, pricing, and support links, then select Add App. Where supported, Discord lets you choose whether to install it to the server or to your user account. Review the authorization screen and select Authorize.

Adding an app to a server requires server ownership or the Manage Server permission. Installed apps appear in the server member list and under Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps. To remove an app, kick the bot from the server member list. Discord’s app-installation guide is the safer reference than an old invite link copied from a bot directory.

Apply least privilege

Do not grant Administrator by default. Discord advises giving bots only the permissions they need, and reputable moderation bots generally should not require unrestricted administrator access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a typical utility bot, start with:

  • View Channel
  • Send Messages
  • Embed Links
  • Read Message History
  • Add Reactions, if it uses reaction roles or polls

A music bot may need Connect and Speak. A moderation bot may specifically need Manage Messages, Timeout Members, Kick Members, Ban Members, or Manage Roles. Grant those only when the feature is enabled and understood.

Treat Manage Server, Manage Roles, Manage Channels, Manage Webhooks, Ban Members, Manage Messages, and Mention Everyone as high-risk permissions that require justification. Prefer channel-specific permissions where practical, and review them under Server Settings > Integrations after installation.

Understand roles and channel overrides

A bot cannot manage a role above its highest role. Move the bot’s role above the roles it must assign or moderate, but below human administrator and moderator roles. This restriction is documented in Discord’s permissions documentation and its guide to roles and permissions.

Server-wide permission settings can also be overridden in individual channels. When a bot fails, check View Channel, Send Messages, Send Messages in Threads, Read Message History, Embed Links, and Attach Files. For voice bots, check Connect and Speak.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Review data access and privacy

Do not assume that a bot is safe merely because it appears in Discord’s App Directory. Discord says installed bots may have baseline access to information such as basic member profile details, roles and nicknames, message date and time metadata, voice-channel membership metadata, reactions, and language settings. Additional access depends on the app, its permissions, its configuration, and direct interactions.

Before installation, read the developer’s privacy policy and terms. Check whether it stores message content, deleted or edited messages, ticket transcripts, member activity, voice information, IP addresses, cookies, device fingerprints, or external account identifiers. Also check whether users can request deletion and whether data is shared with third parties. Explain privacy-sensitive logging or analytics in your server rules or privacy notice, restrict logs to trusted staff, and delete data that is no longer needed.

Common setup failures

The bot cannot moderate or assign roles

  • Move the bot’s role above the target member or role.
  • Confirm the bot has the required moderation or role permission.
  • Check channel-specific overrides.
  • Make sure the user is not an administrator or ignored role exempt from the rule.
  • Check that the bot’s dashboard rule is enabled and has a valid action.

Slash commands do not appear

Possible causes include installing the app without the applications.commands scope, role or channel restrictions, a delayed command registration, an outdated invite, or a command disabled under Server Settings > Integrations > Manage. Discord documents command permissions in its application-command documentation and its command-permissions guide.

AutoMod does not stop a bot’s messages

Discord’s current support documentation explains that AutoMod does not flag messages from server-installed apps in exactly the same way as ordinary user content. If your expectation is to filter every bot-generated message, configure the bot itself, restrict its posting channels, or use a moderation workflow designed to handle bot content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verification creates more problems than it solves

Mandatory third-party verification can reduce legitimate-member conversion, block VPN users, misclassify alternate accounts, or send members through confusing external links. For many communities, native Onboarding, Rules Screening, Raid Protection, and AutoMod are a less intrusive first layer. If you use an anti-alt or verification service, provide a manual appeal process and never ask members to enter credentials on an unfamiliar domain.

A backup restores the server but not the whole ecosystem

Xenon or another structure-backup tool may restore channels, roles, and settings without restoring each bot’s external dashboard configuration. Reauthorize bots, recreate webhooks, reconnect external accounts, restore integrations, and recheck channel permissions after a restoration. Always test on a separate server before loading a backup into production.

Recommended bot stacks by server type

Small friend server

  • sesh or Apollo: organize game nights, watch parties, or study sessions.
  • Jockie Music: add voice-channel music if members want it.
  • One game bot: choose Dank Memer, EPIC RPG, Karuta, Mudae, or PokeMeow—not all of them.

You may not need a moderation bot at all if the server is private and Discord’s native controls cover your needs.

Public gaming community

  • Carl-bot or Dyno: choose one primary moderation and logging system.
  • Wick: add it if the server faces meaningful raid or destructive-admin risk.
  • Ticket Tool: handle reports, support, appeals, or partnership requests privately.
  • sesh or Apollo: schedule raids, tournaments, and community events.
  • Streamcord or MonitoRSS: publish creator, patch-note, or news notifications.

Roblox community

  • Carl-bot or Dyno: provide ordinary moderation.
  • Bloxlink: verify Roblox accounts and synchronize group ranks.
  • Ticket Tool: manage player support or appeals.
  • Wick: use only when the community’s raid risk justifies the added complexity.
  • Statbot or Streamcord: add analytics or creator notifications only if they serve a clear purpose.

Creator or streamer server

  • Dyno or Carl-bot: moderation, logs, and basic roles.
  • Streamcord: live notifications, roles, and schedule updates.
  • sesh or Apollo: coordinate community streams and events.
  • Ticket Tool: handle support and collaboration requests.
  • MonitoRSS: distribute videos, blog posts, and news feeds.

Anime or roleplay server

  • Carl-bot or YAGPDB: moderation and role automation.
  • Tupperbox: character personas for roleplay.
  • Mudae or Karuta: choose one collection game.
  • Ticket Tool: handle reports and applications.
  • sesh: organize sessions, events, and polls.

Why some older Discord bot lists are no longer reliable

Bot directories and listicles age quickly. An article updated on October 15, 2025 still labeled its recommendations as a 2024 list, illustrating why year labels and feature claims need regular review. Older coverage also tends to overemphasize games and music while underrepresenting tickets, backups, analytics, feeds, creator notifications, Roblox identity, and anti-raid security.

Several older entries should be treated as historical until they pass a live check. GAwesome Bot, ChatGPT bot, AI Image Generator, GameStats, Typical Bot, TriviaBot, Uzox, Miki, Discord Dungeons, and Counting may have changed, disappeared, switched owners, or moved to different command systems. Legacy commands such as rpg start, .gs profile, m!play, and trivia start should not be presented as current without checking the live help output.

FredBoat is a particularly important example. Its official documentation remains online, but a current third-party status report says the hosted bot shut down on June 1, 2026, reportedly following a cease-and-desist. Because those sources conflict, do not recommend FredBoat as an active hosted bot unless its developer confirms that service has resumed.

How to choose between similar bots

  1. Start with function fit: identify the exact problem, such as spam, event attendance, private support, feeds, or Roblox roles.
  2. Check whether Discord already solves it: native AutoMod, Onboarding, Events, Forums, polls, and integrations may be enough.
  3. Check maintenance: look for a current official site, active documentation, a working App Directory listing, a current support server, and current slash-command behavior. An old webpage or server-count claim is not proof that a hosted bot still works.
  4. Compare permissions: reject an app that requests Administrator without a narrowly documented reason.
  5. Compare privacy: understand message retention, analytics, ticket transcripts, external account linking, and deletion options.
  6. Compare pricing: determine whether the feature you actually need is free, usage-limited, premium, self-hostable, or dependent on a commercial API.
  7. Test in isolation: create a private test channel, restrict the bot to it, test a normal member account and a moderator account, then expand access gradually.
  8. Remove redundancy: keep one primary moderation bot and add specialists only when they solve a separate problem.

Do not install all 25

Multiple general-purpose bots often overlap in moderation, welcome messages, role assignment, logs, custom commands, and leveling. Carl-bot, Dyno, YAGPDB, MEE6, and ProBot can all cover parts of the same territory. Tatsu and Arcane overlap in leveling and role rewards; Sesh and Apollo overlap in events; Jockie Music overlaps with other music bots; and MonitoRSS overlaps with specialized notification apps.

Overlapping systems can issue duplicate punishments, create contradictory verification flows, overwrite roles, flood channels with logs, or make it unclear which dashboard controls a setting. A sensible starting point is one primary moderation bot, one security specialist only if necessary, and a few focused tools for real community needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Discord bot for moderation?

Not necessarily. Discord’s native AutoMod supports keyword and spam-content filtering, and Community Onboarding, Rules Screening, channel permissions, and Raid Protection may cover a small or medium server. Add Carl-bot, Dyno, YAGPDB, MEE6, or ProBot when you need more advanced logs, custom commands, role automation, or moderation workflows.

How many Discord bots should a server have?

There is no fixed ideal number. Start with one primary moderation bot and add specialized apps only for clear needs such as tickets, events, backups, creator alerts, Roblox verification, or a game. Avoid installing several bots that perform the same moderation, welcome, role, or leveling functions.

Should I give a Discord bot Administrator permission?

Usually no. Grant only the permissions required for the features you enable, preferably with channel-specific restrictions. Reputable moderation bots generally should not need unrestricted Administrator access. Review the app’s requested permissions and Data Access information before authorizing it.

Can Discord bots read private messages and member information?

Access depends on the app, its permissions, configuration, and direct interactions. Discord says installed apps may receive baseline information such as member profiles, roles, nicknames, message date and time metadata, voice-channel membership metadata, reactions, and language settings. Read the developer’s privacy policy to learn whether it stores message content, analytics, transcripts, external account identifiers, or other data.

Are Discord music bots still reliable?

Music bots are particularly volatile because source availability, copyright enforcement, hosting, and premium policies change frequently. Check the bot’s current documentation and interface immediately before installation, and do not assume that a bot permanently supports YouTube, Spotify, every platform, or 24/7 playback.

The Bottom Line

For most servers, begin with Discord’s native tools and one primary moderation bot—Carl-bot, Dyno, YAGPDB, MEE6, or ProBot—then add only the specialist that solves a genuine problem. Use Wick for significant raid risk, Ticket Tool for private support, Sesh or Apollo for events, Xenon for tested structure backups, Statbot for carefully managed analytics, MonitoRSS or Streamcord for notifications, and Bloxlink for Roblox communities. Install conservatively, use least-privilege permissions, test in a private channel, and remove anything that creates more clutter, risk, or redundancy than value.
