Check the specific platform combination—and, where relevant, the game edition and mode—before you buy or plan a session. This list spans quick party games, competitive matches, and shared worlds so you can find a fit for your group.
What “cross-platform” means when you want to play together
For this list, cross-platform means that players on different devices can play multiplayer together. It is not the same as a game simply being available on multiple platforms. Epic Games describes crossplay as multiplayer between major consoles, mobile devices, and PCs on the same server; TechRadar also distinguishes crossplay from multi-platform availability (Epic Games; TechRadar).

Support can be narrower than a game’s full platform list, and some titles separate players by mode, input, or matchmaking pool. Cross-save is another separate feature: it carries progress between platforms, but it does not by itself mean players can join one another. Epic cites Destiny 2 and Warframe as games supporting both crossplay and cross-save.

Best cross-platform games by the kind of session you want
Easy-to-start party games
- Fall Guys — A playful obstacle-course competition suited to groups who want short, low-stakes rounds rather than a long campaign.
- Among Us — Social deduction built around discussion and suspicion. It works best when your group enjoys talking through a round and can accommodate its lobby size and platform requirements.
- Fortnite — A flexible pick if your group wants battle royale, creative experiences, or other modes in one game. Confirm the current cross-platform party and shared-progress details in Fortnite’s official FAQ before relying on a particular setup.
Competitive matches and quick rematches
- Rocket League — Soccer with rocket-powered cars makes matches easy to understand and quick to replay. A strong choice when friends want competitive rounds without learning a large roster of characters.
- Apex Legends — A squad-based battle royale with a faster, more tactical feel. Its matchmaking has a meaningful platform rule: consoles play together, while PC players remain in PC matchmaking; a console player partying with a PC player is placed into PC matches. EA says cross-platform parties can use in-game voice chat (EA’s Apex Legends FAQ).
- Overwatch 2 — Team-based hero combat for groups who like coordinating roles and objectives. Before choosing it for a competitive night, check how the current mode handles mixed-platform parties.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone — A fit for groups who want first-person shooting, with the choice between paid-series multiplayer and the free-to-play Warzone experience. Check the current platform and mode compatibility for the specific version you intend to play.
- The Finals — Destruction-heavy team shooter action for friends who prefer objective-focused matches and changing arenas.
- Marvel Rivals — Hero-based team battles with familiar comic-book characters. GameSpot reports that cross-platform play is limited to casual modes, so verify the current ranked and casual rules if your group wants to queue together.
Co-op campaigns, survival, and shared worlds
- Sea of Thieves — A shared pirate world built around crew-based voyages, exploration, and encounters with other players. It suits friends who want sessions to unfold organically rather than follow a tightly scripted mission list.
- Helldivers 2 — Cooperative missions for squads who enjoy chaotic firefights and working toward shared objectives. Check your group’s exact platforms before settling on it, since a multi-platform release alone does not establish crossplay for every combination.
- Destiny 2 — A long-running online shooter with cooperative activities and shared-world play. Epic identifies it as supporting crossplay and cross-save, making it an option for groups who value both playing together and carrying progress between platforms.
- Minecraft — A flexible sandbox for building, exploring, or surviving together, but edition compatibility is crucial. Microsoft’s comparison lists Bedrock cross-play among Windows, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and mobile; Java cross-play is listed among Windows, Mac, and Linux. Make sure everyone is on a compatible edition before setting up a world (Minecraft edition comparison).
- No Man’s Sky — An expansive space-exploration game for groups who like discovering planets, building, and pursuing their own goals in a shared universe.
- Borderlands 4 — A loot-driven cooperative shooter for friends who want campaign progression, weapon collecting, and over-the-top combat. Check the supported platform pairing for your group’s editions before starting a run.
- Monster Hunter Wilds — A cooperative hunt-based action game for players who enjoy preparing for a target, learning its patterns, and improving gear over time.
Sports, fighting, and head-to-head play
- NBA 2K26 — A basketball option for groups who want sports matches and shared competition. GameSpot reports crossplay is limited to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; do not assume other versions can join those lobbies.
- Forza Horizon 5 — Open-world driving for friends who prefer racing, exploration, and car collecting to team shooters. Confirm the current support for your particular platform combination.
- Mortal Kombat 1 — A one-on-one fighting game for friends who want direct duels and practice between matches. Verify cross-platform support for the current version and mode before arranging a cross-device set.
- Tekken 8 — Another strong choice for head-to-head competition, especially if your group enjoys learning distinct characters and improving through repeated matches. Check current compatibility for the platforms in your group.
- Chivalry 2 — Large medieval battles and melee combat for friends who want a less conventional competitive session than a sports or shooter match.
Social games and longer-form adventures
- Roblox — A platform of many user-created games rather than one fixed experience. The right choice depends on finding an activity your group can access and enjoy together.
- Final Fantasy XIV — A story-rich online role-playing game for friends willing to invest in a persistent world, quests, and group activities. Confirm server and platform access details for your region and account situation.
- Diablo IV — Action role-playing with loot collection and cooperative monster-fighting, suited to groups who want a shared progression loop and repeatable combat.
- Genshin Impact — A free-to-play action RPG with exploration and cooperative play. Check the game’s current co-op restrictions and platform pairing if your group wants to play together from the start.
- Dead by Daylight — Asymmetric multiplayer horror, with one player taking the killer role and others trying to survive. A good fit when your group wants tense rounds rather than a cooperative campaign.
- Split Fiction — A cooperative adventure designed around two-player teamwork and varied scenarios. Consider it when your group wants a focused co-op experience rather than a competitive lobby.
Choose by group fit, not just by genre
| What your group wants | Good starting picks | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Short, casual sessions | Fall Guys, Among Us, Rocket League | Lobby size, current party setup, and whether everyone can install the same version. |
| Competitive team play | Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, Fortnite, The Finals | Matchmaking pools, input or mode restrictions, and whether your preferred mode allows mixed-platform parties. |
| Cooperative missions or campaigns | Helldivers 2, Borderlands 4, Monster Hunter Wilds, Split Fiction | Supported platform pairing, party limits, and whether the title suits the time your group can commit. |
| A world to return to together | Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, No Man’s Sky, Destiny 2, Final Fantasy XIV | Edition or account compatibility, progression behavior, and any server or region conditions. |
| Sports or one-on-one competition | NBA 2K26, Forza Horizon 5, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8 | Whether crossplay covers your exact devices and the mode you plan to use. |
Check compatibility before you organize a game night
- Write down everyone’s exact platform and version. “PC” or “PlayStation” may not be enough: editions, console generations, and game modes can matter.
- Look for crossplay—not just a store page for each device. Confirm that the exact platforms in your group can join the same multiplayer session.
- Check matchmaking and mode restrictions. Apex Legends separates PC matchmaking from console play unless a console player parties with a PC player, which sends that party into PC matches. Other games may restrict crossplay by mode.
- Check cross-save separately if people switch devices. It concerns saved progress, not whether friends can join the same session.
- Recheck official support pages close to your session. Platform support, modes, and matchmaking rules can change; use the game’s current first-party compatibility notes where available.
