If Dota 2 reports CAppSystemDict::LoadSystemAndDependencies(): AppSystemDict: Error in Init() of interface ‘SceneSystem_002 during launch, it is reporting an initialization failure involving the SceneSystem_002 interface. Secondary troubleshooting guides suggest three low-risk checks: restart Steam and verify the game files, clear Steam’s download cache, and test without custom launch options. None is confirmed by Valve as a specific fix for this error, so work through them one at a time.
1. Restart Steam and verify Dota 2’s files
Start with a full Steam restart, then use Steam’s built-in file verification. These checks are recommended by The Global Gaming’s March 9, 2024 guide. Verification checks the installed game files and can replace files Steam identifies as missing or damaged.
- Exit Steam completely. Close the client, then reopen it and sign in if prompted.
- Open Dota 2’s properties. In Steam, go to Library, right-click Dota 2, and choose Properties.
- Run file verification. Select Installed Files, then Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the process to finish before launching Dota 2 again.
If the error remains, continue to the next check instead of repeating verification without a reason.
2. Clear Steam’s download cache
A guide published by Position Is Everything on May 19, 2026 recommends clearing Steam’s download cache as a troubleshooting step. This resets cached download data; it does not guarantee a repair to Dota 2’s files.

- In Steam, open Steam > Settings.
- Choose Downloads, then select Clear Download Cache.
- Confirm the prompt. Steam may restart and ask you to sign in again.
- Launch Dota 2 and check whether the same error appears.
3. Test Dota 2 without custom launch options
Custom launch options can change how a game starts. To check whether one is involved, temporarily remove the options, test the game, and restore them afterward if the error is unchanged.
- In Steam’s Library, right-click Dota 2 and select Properties.
- Under General, find Launch Options.
- Copy the existing text somewhere safe, then clear the field temporarily.
- Launch Dota 2. If it opens, add your saved options back one at a time to identify whether one affects startup.
Position Is Everything also discusses driver checks, but the available source does not establish that a driver update is a fix for this particular error. Avoid installing a third-party utility on the assumption that it will resolve SceneSystem_002.

If the three checks do not work
Consider manual DLL removal only as a later step
Two secondary guides recommend deleting DLL files whose names include SceneSystem and then verifying Dota 2’s files. That advice is not an official Valve diagnosis or a confirmed remedy. Prefer Steam’s verification first; manually removing game files carries more risk if you select the wrong files. If you choose to follow that advice, use the game’s installation folder, target only files explicitly named in the guide you are following, and run Steam file verification afterward.
Reinstall or contact support if the error persists
The Global Gaming’s 2024 guide places reinstalling Dota 2 after the less intrusive checks and advises contacting support if launch problems continue. Reinstallation takes longer and is not guaranteed to address this error. No official Valve cause or specific current fix for Error Scene System 002 is established by the available sources.
