Authorities reported that 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles went missing from a shipment on June 8, 2025, with an estimated value of more than $1.4 million. The loss occurred during the console’s launch period, but the available reports do not show that this single theft caused a wider or continuing Switch 2 shortage.
What happened to the Switch 2 shipment?
A driver discovered several pallets missing during a pre-trip inspection at a Love’s truck stop in Bennett, Colorado, on June 8, 2025. The truck was carrying consoles from Nintendo’s offices in Redmond, Washington, to a GameStop in Grapevine, Texas. The discovery came three days after the Switch 2 launched on June 5, according to CBS Colorado.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said 2,810 consoles had been taken, according to Scripps News. Investigators had not determined where along the journey the cargo was removed. Bennett was where the driver found the pallets missing; the reports do not establish that the theft happened at the truck stop.
How much were the stolen consoles worth?
Scripps News reported the sheriff’s office estimated the loss at more than $1.4 million. CBS Colorado quoted Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Anders Nelson saying the consoles retailed for about $499 each. Those are approximate reported figures, not an audited valuation of the shipment.

Did the theft cause the Switch 2 shortage?
The reports do not establish that it did. CBS Colorado also described launch-period supply concerns voiced by local game shops, and Level 7 Games’ Ryan Barth said, “Stuff like this hurts it, of course.” That is a retailer’s view of supply pressure, not evidence measuring the effect of this particular shipment on availability.
The incident involved a substantial shipment during the launch period, but the reporting does not demonstrate that it caused a broad shortage then. It also cannot explain whether a Switch 2 is available now: the cited supply observations are from 2025, not current stock checks.

What is known about the investigation?
The cited reports describe an active investigation at the time of publication and mention possible charges. They do not document a later arrest, recovery of the consoles, or resolution of the case. They likewise do not establish that the consoles were disabled or that any particular secondhand listing contains stolen merchandise.
