The official sources reviewed do not say that stealing a ship adds it to your account permanently. Taking control of a hull in the game world is different from having an account entitlement to it; the exact live-server persistence of a stolen ship is not specified in the current documentation.
What “permanently steal” means
There are two different things at stake: controlling a ship in the game world and having a lasting ship entitlement on your account. RSI’s Terms of Service identify ships and vehicles as virtual goods. RSI says players receive a limited license to access and use them, rather than ownership of the virtual goods themselves. That account-level distinction means taking someone else’s ship does not, on the evidence available, make it permanently yours.
What happens when the owner files an insurance claim?
RSI’s current Bricked Items and Ships support article says that when an insurance claim creates a replacement, the existing ship copy and the components on it become bricked. RSI defines bricked items as inert and unusable. A bricked ship can be identified at an ASOP terminal and scrapped.
This describes what happens to the existing copy when a replacement is created; it does not establish that the person who took control of the original gains ownership or an account entitlement.

Can you store or keep the stolen ship?
RSI’s current official documentation reviewed here does not specify how long a stolen ship remains usable on live servers, whether a thief can store it, or every event that may cause it to disappear. There is therefore no documented basis for promising that a stolen ship will remain available permanently—or for giving a precise session duration.
Does pledge-item recovery let you claim someone else’s ship?
No. RSI’s In-Game Pledge Item Recovery process handles ship-related pledge items, but excludes items acquired in-game, including items looted or bought in a store. Claiming a recovered pledge item bricks its previous iteration. That is a recovery and duplication-control process, not a way to convert a stolen in-game hull into your account entitlement.

Will an in-game ship acquisition persist through patches?
RSI says in its aUEC ship-purchase guide that ships bought in-game are intended to remain available during Alpha, while rare resets may be required for testing or balance. The guide also says an in-game purchase cannot be sold back to the shop. Those statements concern purchases, not stolen ships, and they do not guarantee that a stolen hull or any other in-game state will persist through every patch.

RSI’s Insurance FAQ and Update is from early development. It discussed captured or stolen hull IDs, sales restrictions, and “hot” ships, but it is historical design-era material—not a current specification of how theft works on live servers. It should not be treated as confirmation that a stolen ship has a particular present-day persistence rule.
