Check your FM24 database first
These recommendations refer to the FM24-specific player views in the cited guides, not every later community squad update. Football Manager’s main data update, published on 29 February 2024, changed squads, ability ratings, and attributes. Sports Interactive said gameplay adjustments would apply to current careers, but players must begin a new save to get the data changes. The update included “more than six million data changes.” Sports Interactive’s update notice also cautioned that some calendar-year leagues had roster data only through the end of 2023, so the update should not be treated as a record of every 2024 transfer.
Before following any player shortlist, check the database selected when starting your save and inspect Cardiff’s squad in-game. The Sortitoutsi Cardiff FM24 guide provides a useful third-party club snapshot, but its values are not official financial disclosures and can vary with database version or save settings.

Ramsey is the clearest attacking pick in this group. FM Scout’s FM24 profile places him first among these three with a displayed scout opinion of 78. Cardiff’s 2023/24 squad-number announcement, published 4 August 2023, names him as Wales captain and gives him the number 10 shirt. That official context supports treating him as a natural focal point, but it does not dictate a particular in-game role.
Use him where your shape can make his creative contribution matter. A system that gives him room to influence attacks may make better use of him than one that leaves him isolated or asks him to do work unsuited to his attributes. Check his in-save profile and condition rather than assuming the same role will work across databases or tactics.

Mark McGuinness: a centre-back to develop
McGuinness’s case is about age and opportunity, not a verified potential rating. Sortitoutsi’s FM24 view lists him at 22, while FM Scout’s displayed opinion is 72 and identifies him as a centre-back. That makes him the younger defensive project in this trio, but the available profiles do not establish a fixed potential or guarantee a particular growth path.
Assess his attributes against the role you want him to play, then give him minutes and evaluate his progress in your save. His development will depend on the game’s database, role fit, and how he performs; do not treat a third-party opinion score as a promise of future ability.

Why Cardiff’s youth pathway matters
There is a club-level reason to leave room for development in a Cardiff save. In its 2023/24 academy season review, published 15 May 2024, Cardiff reported that its U18 side recorded 18 wins from 29 matches. U21 head coach Darren Purse described the club’s priority as “the pathway for players,” while also saying he wanted to win matches.
