For a festive story, play Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales; for a snowy Christmas Eve superhero patrol, choose Batman: Arkham Origins; and for a deliberately twisted holiday, try Dead Rising 4. These picks offer three different kinds of seasonal setting, but they are not all available on the same systems or aimed at the same audience.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales: the heartfelt snowy pick
The story unfolds around Christmas, with Miles taking care of New York while Peter Parker is away for the holidays. The season is primarily a backdrop rather than the central plot, but the focus on family and community gives the snowy city a warmer feel. Manhattan’s Christmas trees, lights and snow provide the clearest visual holiday atmosphere of these three games.
PlayStation lists Miles Morales for PS5 and PS4, and its PC page points to Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam gives the PC release date as November 18, 2022; PlayStation lists the original release date as November 12, 2020. The official listings cited here do not show an Xbox edition, so this is a PlayStation-and-PC recommendation, not an Xbox one. PlayStation platform and release information; Steam PC listing.
Batman: Arkham Origins: a Christmas Eve patrol
Arkham Origins sets much of its story on Christmas Eve, with Batman moving through a snow-covered Gotham. Christmas is most present in the atmosphere: the cold, the snow and the holiday-night setting shape this superhero action pick without turning it into a cozy seasonal story.

Dead Rising 4: a cynical zombie Christmas
If your preferred holiday mood is festive decorations against gruesome chaos, Dead Rising 4 is the outlier. Its mall is still dressed for Christmas when zombies take over, and the holiday absurdity includes zombies in seasonal costumes and a reindeer-themed motorbike. The result is horror-comedy rather than a warm Christmas adventure.

- HAVE AWFULLY GOOD FUN – Sneak and steal presents as the Grinch and his dog Max.
- UNLOCK GRINCHY GADGETS – Solve puzzles to gain abilities! Throw snowballs, disguise as Santa, use a Candy Cane Lasso or a Jumping Jetpack, and more!
- GET IN THE SPIRIT – The Grinch wants to stop Christmas, but you can help his heart grow three sizes!
- EXPERIENCE A CLASSIC – With visuals inspired by Dr. Seuss’s book and controls for young players.
The setting also supports a joke about seasonal consumerism: Game Informer describes the Christmas-decorated mall and Black Friday backdrop as part of the game’s satire. Current platform availability was not established by the sources cited here, so check the listing for your specific system and edition before seeking a copy.
Which game should you choose?
- For snow, lights and an earnest story: Choose Miles Morales, if you play on PS5, PS4 or PC.
- For a darker superhero story set on Christmas Eve: Choose Arkham Origins, bearing in mind its older listed platforms and Teen rating.
- For an intentionally uncozy holiday: Choose Dead Rising 4 if its zombie comedy suits you, after verifying availability for your system.
These are recommendations by tone and setting, not a documented head-to-head ranking. None is a universal best: the right choice depends on whether you want a heartfelt seasonal backdrop, a wintry crime-fighting story or Christmas-themed horror-comedy.

Want a more literal Christmas game?
The Grinch: Christmas Adventures is a better fit if you want Christmas to be the premise rather than the backdrop, or need a more family-oriented option. Bandai Namco lists it for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Xbox describes local two-player co-op, puzzles and controls aimed at younger players.
