This is a role-based shortlist from third-party FM24 squad data, not an official ranking or a guarantee of how the players will develop in your save.
Why these three Stoke players?
The shortlist spreads its picks across the pitch rather than stacking three players in one area. Burger offers a midfield organising role, Manhoef adds a right-sided attacking option, and Wilmot gives the group a centre-back. The cited FM24 sources establish their listed roles and squad inclusion, but do not provide a sound basis for comparing overall ratings or predicting exact development.
Wouter Burger: a playmaking pivot
FM Scout’s FM24 profile for Wouter Burger lists him as a defensive midfielder who can also play in central midfield, and names deep-lying playmaker as his best role. That makes him the shortlist’s natural choice if you want a midfielder to help organise possession from deeper positions. The profile lists him as 22 in its FM24 data.
Million Manhoef: a right-sided attacking option
The Sortitoutsi Stoke FM24 squad guide places Manhoef on the right, with defensive, wide and attacking positional options. That gives the shortlist a player for a wide role rather than another central midfielder. For real-world context, Stoke City announced his signing on deadline day in February 2024 in its introduction to Million Manhoef; the announcement is not evidence of his in-game ratings.

Ben Wilmot: the centre-back
The same FM24 squad guide lists Wilmot as a centre-back, making him the defensive pick in this three-player core. His place here is about role balance: the cited data supports his position and squad listing, but does not establish a specific potential ability, development curve or performance guarantee.
Check which FM24 database your save uses
The Sortitoutsi guide identifies itself as an FM24 team guide and warns that transfer updates can change the squad from the original Football Manager 2024 database. When setting up a new save, check which database and update you selected; the players listed in a transfer-updated squad should not automatically be treated as members of the original database.

If your tactical idea depends on midfielders arriving to score, Stoke’s January 2024 match report offers a period-specific perspective, not an FM24 verdict. Then-head coach Steven Schumacher said of Lewis Baker: “He has lots of ability and can score from outside of the box with both feet.” Schumacher also said his system needed number-eight players who could score. That is useful real-world context for considering a more advanced midfield role, but it does not establish that Baker should replace one of these three FM24 picks.
