The right option depends on whether you want a cable, which PC game library you want to access, and whether your PC and network meet the relevant requirements.

These methods have different software and hardware requirements; the available specifications do not establish a tested ranking for image quality, latency, or setup ease.
1. Connect with wired Meta Horizon Link
For a wired connection, use a USB-C cable that carries data, not a charge-only cable. Meta’s hardware setup documentation specifies a USB-C data cable supporting 5 GB/s or higher for its Link setup context and recommends the Meta Horizon Link Cable. That figure is hardware setup guidance, not a measured performance result. Check that the cable’s connectors match your headset and PC, that your PC has a suitable port, and that its length works for your play area. Meta’s guide is available at Hardware Setup.
Set up the wired connection
- Confirm that the PC runs 64-bit Windows 10 or newer and has a graphics card compatible with Meta Horizon Link streaming. Meta lists Quest 3 among supported headsets in its Unity Hello World setup guide.
- Connect the headset to the PC with the USB-C data cable.
- Put on the headset and follow the Link prompt. The Meta developer guide also describes Quick Settings > Settings > Link > Enable Link > Launch Link, but that guide is written for an app-preview context, so consumer menu names or steps may differ by software version.
2. Connect wirelessly with Meta Air Link
Air Link is Meta’s wireless option for Link. Meta’s developer setup material describes using Wi-Fi when the headset and PC are on the same network, and its documentation refers to starting Link over Air Link. Begin with Meta Horizon Link on the PC and follow the current prompts in the PC software and Quest settings to pair and launch the wireless connection.

The cited Meta documentation does not establish a definitive current consumer pairing-screen sequence. Follow the prompts shown on your devices rather than relying on menu paths that may have changed. Meta’s developer setup context and same-network guidance are described in its setup guide and hardware documentation.
3. Stream Steam games with Steam Link
Steam Link streams games in your Steam library from your computer to a supported headset. Steam Support lists Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro as supported, and calls for a Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E wireless router. Its support FAQ provides the supported-headset and router information.

Meta’s Store listing for Steam Link gives a minimum PC operating system of Windows 10 or newer and a minimum GPU of NVIDIA GTX 970 or better. Its recommended setup includes a wired network connection for the PC and Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E. The listing is older than Steam Support’s FAQ, so check the current compatibility information before relying on those PC specifications: Steam Link on Meta Store.
Set up Steam Link
- Check that your PC meets the current Steam Link compatibility requirements and that your home network has a Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E router.
- Install Steam Link on the Quest 3 from the Meta Store, then follow the app’s current prompts to connect it to the PC running Steam.
- Choose a game from your Steam library in the app to stream it to the headset.
Which method should you use?
- Choose wired Meta Horizon Link if you want Meta’s Link connection and can use a USB-C data cable between the headset and PC.
- Choose Air Link if you want Meta’s Link route over Wi-Fi and your PC and headset can use the same network.
- Choose Steam Link if the games you want to play are in your Steam library and your PC and network meet Steam Link’s requirements.
You do not necessarily need a new router: first check whether your current network equipment meets Steam Link’s Wi-Fi requirement. Meta’s recommendation for a wired PC network connection applies to the Steam Link listing’s recommended setup, not as a universal requirement for every Quest 3 connection method.
