Yes. 343 Industries rebranded as Halo Studios in October 2024 and said it was developing multiple Halo projects with Unreal Engine 5. The studio still says multiple projects are in development, but it has not identified or dated the other projects in its current official materials. Its next currently announced project, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is out now.
Is 343 Industries now Halo Studios?
Yes. The studio announced the Halo Studios name at the 2024 Halo World Championship, describing the change as a new chapter for Halo development. The announcement presented a rebrand and a shift in development approach; it did not announce a transfer of franchise ownership. Halo’s announcement and Xbox Wire’s interview with studio leaders were both published October 6, 2024.

Studio Head Pierre Hintze framed the change as more than a new name: “So we’re not just going to try improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games. So, we start a new chapter today.” That is the studio’s stated ambition, not evidence by itself that future games will ship faster or be better.
Why did 343 Industries change its name?
Halo Studios described the rebrand as part of a broader change to its development culture, processes, and technology. In the Xbox Wire interview, COO Elizabeth van Wyck said the studio wanted its teams to focus more on making games and less on building and maintaining tools and an engine. She also said the goal included updating games and adding content in response to what players want—not just reducing the time it takes to bring a game to market.

That explanation matters because the announcement linked the new studio identity to a change in how Halo games are made. It is the studio’s rationale, though; the cited interview does not establish measured improvements to development speed, update cadence, or game quality.
Are new Halo games using Unreal Engine 5?
Yes. The 2024 announcement said future Halo projects would use Unreal Engine 5, and the current Halo Studios overview says Halo’s future is being built in Unreal Engine. This describes the studio’s future projects, not a confirmed engine change for every older or ongoing Halo game.

Halo Studios cited the work required to develop and maintain its proprietary Slipspace Engine as a reason for moving to Unreal. The studio also pointed to Unreal technologies such as Nanite and Lumen as appealing to its art team, and to the engine’s familiarity in the industry as a potential help with recruiting and onboarding. In the interview, Art Director Chris Matthews said some Slipspace components were “almost 25 years old.” That comment refers to some components, not the age of the entire engine.
These are the studio’s stated reasons and interests, not proof that Unreal will guarantee quicker releases, more frequent updates, or particular visual results.

How many Halo games are in development?
Halo Studios said in October 2024 that multiple projects were in development, and its current overview still uses that wording. The official materials reviewed identify Halo: Campaign Evolved as the studio’s next currently announced project; they do not disclose the names or release dates of the other projects. “Multiple” confirms more than one project, but it is not a public count or a release schedule.

What is Project Foundry?
Project Foundry was a research and development effort that Halo Studios used to explore what it takes to build Halo in Unreal and help train teams for future development. It is not a released Halo game, nor was the studio’s announcement describing it as a tech demo or one of the separately mentioned game projects.

At the reveal, Foundry showed Halo-inspired environments and assets, including the Pacific Northwest, the Coldlands, and the Flood-consumed Blightlands. The studio described it as a way to explore the technology and establish a development process. Halo Waypoint’s announcement and Xbox Wire’s interview provide the studio’s context.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is the next currently announced project named on the studio’s overview, and Halo’s official release post says it is out now. The game is a modernized remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, with three additional missions, cross-play co-op for up to four players, 42 Skulls, and Campaign Remix. The release post lists Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Steam; check the official release page for current platform and availability details.

The official editions page also documents physical discs for Xbox and PlayStation Collector’s Editions, as well as a Steam edition that includes a voucher code. Its June 8, 2026 update says the Collector’s Edition sold out, so that listing does not establish that copies remain available. The official editions page lists the Collector’s Edition contents.
What the engine change does—and does not—tell players
The change tells players which engine Halo Studios says it will use for future projects and why the studio believes that approach suits its plans. It does not reveal the identities, genres, or release dates of the other projects. Nor does it establish that the engine change alone will determine how a future Halo game looks, plays, or is supported.
One separate point is historical: in the 2024 Xbox Wire interview, Halo Studios said Halo Infinite would continue to receive support using Slipspace, including Operations and Forge updates. That was a statement about plans at the time, not a current service-status update.
