What the poll reported
Insider Gaming reported that the poll had about 276,000 votes when its story was published on December 12, 2025. In that snapshot, 36.7% chose D or below, while 16.8% chose A. The headline’s 275,000 and 37% are rounded figures; the article’s more specific numbers describe the reported snapshot, not necessarily the poll’s final tally. (Insider Gaming, December 12, 2025)
A separate Destructoid report gave the D-or-below share as 37.3%. That difference is consistent with reports capturing a changing poll at different times; the available reports do not establish one definitive final percentage. (Destructoid, 2025)
Why some respondents may have disliked the show
The figures show how poll respondents graded the broadcast, but they do not explain their choices. One reaction quoted by Insider Gaming came from content creator Synth Potato: “What exactly were y’all smoking when you decided a free-to-play hero shooter was a worthy show closer, bro.” That is one person’s criticism of the closing game choice, not evidence that it drove the overall result.

Was the poll representative of everyone who watched?
There is no basis in the cited reports for treating the poll as a representative survey of The Game Awards audience. They describe an X poll but do not document its sampling method, voting restrictions, or whether its participants reflect the broadcast audience. The sound conclusion is that a substantial share of people who voted in the poll selected D or below—not that 37% of all viewers disliked the show.
How the poll compares with the show’s reported reach
The Game Awards said the full 2025 broadcast generated an estimated 171 million global livestreams, an 11% increase from 154 million for the full 2024 broadcast. Those figures count livestreams, exclude associated clips and trailers, and are not a count of unique people or poll respondents. What the year-over-year poll comparison can—and cannot—show
Insider Gaming reported 183,586 votes in the prior year’s poll and said 16.1% rated that show D or below. Those are figures from a different yearly poll snapshot.
