Which route works depends on your store region, purchase history, and the condition and availability of used copies.
1. Buy Minecraft digitally from the PS3 Store
If the PlayStation Store on your PS3 is still accepting purchases in your country, look for Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition on the console. Sony says PS3 content can no longer be bought through the web or mobile stores; purchases must be made on the PS3 itself. Mojang announced the digital release in 2014, noting the game had been downloadable from the PS3 Store since late 2013.

Sony’s 2026 announcement schedules regional PS3 Store closure starts: Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua in August 2026; additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries in late 2026; and all other countries in July 2027. Because timing and availability are region-specific, check the Store directly on your console before relying on this option. A scheduled closure date does not establish whether Minecraft’s listing is currently available in your region. Sony’s closure announcement and Sony’s PS3 Store support information provide the current policy.
Sony says purchases must be made before the applicable store closure and that the account needs sufficient wallet funds. Its support information describes adding funds through PlayStation Store using available methods on desktop, mobile, PS4, or PS5; check the current local support page for the methods available to your account.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
2. Redownload it if you already own it
If Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition was previously purchased on your PlayStation account, use that account on the console and check your download or purchase history. Sony says previously purchased content will remain downloadable after the local store closes “for the foreseeable future.” That is Sony’s stated current commitment, not a guarantee of indefinite access. Read Sony’s closure announcement for its wording.
3. Get a physical PS3 disc
Mojang announced retail discs for Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition beginning May 16, 2014. A used disc is another way to play if you cannot buy it digitally or do not already own it. The announcement also reported that at least 1.5 million players had downloaded the game by 2014; that is a dated figure from Owen Hill’s announcement, not a current sales total. See Mojang’s 2014 disc-release announcement.
