1. Nitrado: best for console crossplay
Nitrado is the clearest verified choice when a single unofficial server must accept PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 players. Its ASA page also provides integrated CurseForge management and a straightforward configuration flow. See the ASA product page.
Price and slot limits
A 20-slot, 30-day configuration displayed at $24.99 when checked in August 2026. The listing states that ASA’s resource requirements create a 20-slot minimum, and some higher-demand maps require a 26-slot tier. The same 20-slot configuration did not list Astraeos and Lost Colony, while the 26-slot configuration showed all listed maps at that time.

Who should skip it
Choose another route if you need operating-system access, unusual launch tooling or a highly customized cluster environment. Also confirm that every planned mod supports your console mix; PC mod availability does not automatically mean Xbox or PlayStation compatibility.
2. Survival Servers: best for administration and clusters
Survival Servers is aimed at owners who want more than a basic settings panel. Its ASA listing advertises FTP, custom launch parameters, scheduled or custom restarts, a configuration manager, location changes, DDoS protection, CurseForge maps and mods, official mods and cluster expansion.
Platform qualification
The inspected page explicitly mentions Steam and Epic compatibility. It does not establish Xbox or PlayStation 5 support, so mixed-console groups should obtain written confirmation before paying.

Apex presents ASA plans by RAM, making capacity easier to compare for communities with large bases, busy breeding operations or demanding mod stacks. Its ASA pricing page displayed 12 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB options.
Price signal
The 12 GB plan showed $29.24 for the first month and $38.99 recurring monthly when checked in August 2026. Use the recurring figure for budgeting; the introductory price is not a permanent rate.

Choose RAM by workload, not by player count alone
RAM is only one variable. Map, structure count, breeding activity, server settings and mod behavior all affect demand. A 12 GB plan may be unnecessary for a lightly used private world yet inadequate for an unusually heavy mod stack. Console crossplay was not verified in the inspected material, so confirm it directly if consoles are involved.
4. PingPerfect VPS: best self-managed alternative
PingPerfect states that ASA is not offered on its normal managed game-server platform but can be hosted on one of its VPS products. Its ASA VPS information describes a fundamentally different purchase: you administer the operating system and the game server yourself.

- Server installation, files, launch arguments and updates.
- Firewall, ports, operating-system packages and monitoring.
- Backup design, restore testing and security hardening.
- Custom tools or additional services on the same virtual machine.
What you must provide
You are responsible for deployment, patching, troubleshooting, backups and outage recovery. Console connectivity depends on the resulting configuration and is not established by the VPS page. This is unsuitable for beginners seeking one-click setup.

How to choose an ASA host
Confirm the edition first
Look for the words ARK: Survival Ascended, an ASA-specific product URL and current ASA maps or mods. The official configuration reference identifies the ASA executable as ArkAscendedServer.exe; older ARK: Survival Evolved documentation commonly refers to ShooterGameServer.exe. Use the server-configuration reference when checking technical documentation.
Do not transfer features or prices from generic or ASE pages. Shockbyte’s surfaced page is for ARK: Survival Evolved and says Xbox is not currently supported on that listing: Shockbyte ARK hosting. BisectHosting’s surfaced product is also ASE-focused: BisectHosting ASE hosting.
Match the exact platform mix
- Steam-only PC is the simplest case.
- Steam/Epic compatibility is not the same as Xbox or PlayStation 5 crossplay.
- Ask whether console players can join unofficial servers and whether crossplay must be enabled in the panel.
- Confirm every mod in your intended list supports the chosen clients.
Size slots and resources realistically
Advertised slots are not the same as the number of friends online at once. Hosts may impose minimum tiers, and maps, structures, breeding and mods can raise resource use. A 20-slot minimum does not guarantee identical performance across every map and mod combination.

Check map and cluster support
- Verify official, premium, newer and modded maps individually.
- Ask whether changing maps preserves saves.
- Determine whether clustering requires another paid server.
- Check whether transfers between maps are supported and backed up.
Audit mod and recovery tools
- CurseForge integration and automatic updates.
- Load-order controls and mod storage limits.
- Save downloads and server-log access.
- Backup retention, separate storage and customer-controlled rollback.
- Whether a backup is taken before a mod update.
Choose a region for the group
Select the data center nearest the majority of active players, not automatically the server owner. For geographically spread groups, test latency and panel usability before committing to a long billing period.
Preventable hosting failures
Buying ASE instead of ASA
Search results often blur the editions. Recheck the product title, executable, maps, mods and console support immediately before checkout.
Assuming “crossplay” includes consoles
Require the provider to name the exact combination—Steam/Epic, Xbox, PlayStation 5 or all three. Do not infer console support from the word “crossplay.”
Breaking a world with a mod update
- Stop the server.
- Create or download a current save backup.
- Change one major mod at a time.
- Check the mod version, provider status page and startup log.
- Roll back the mod or save if the server fails.
- Give support the server ID, map, mod IDs and relevant log excerpt.
Overestimating automatic backups
“Automatic backups” does not specify retention or customer access. Ask how many restore points exist, where they are stored, whether downloads are available and whether rollback requires support.
Paying before testing
Test the nearest region, panel workflow, map eligibility and first mod installation before purchasing a long-term plan. Self-hosting or a VPS also introduces port forwarding, firewalling, DDoS exposure, power and network outages, operating-system maintenance and save-corruption risks.
Recommendation by player type
- PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 group: Start with Nitrado and verify the exact map and mod list.
- PC modders or cluster administrators: Compare Survival Servers’ FTP and cluster tools with your required workflow.
- Large or heavily modded PC community: Price Apex by recurring monthly cost and size RAM to the workload.
- Experienced operator wanting full control: Consider PingPerfect VPS only if you can maintain the complete server stack.
The Bottom Line
For most mixed-platform groups, choose Nitrado. Choose Survival Servers when administration and clusters matter more than verified console coverage, Apex when you need explicit high-RAM tiers for a demanding PC community, and PingPerfect VPS only when you are prepared to run the server yourself.
