Call of Duty: Mobile is the best starting point if you want PUBG-style battle royale alongside other shooter modes; Free Fire is the clearest pick for shorter matches. Fortnite is worth considering if it is available through an install route in your region, while Brawl Stars is a more colorful, top-down alternative rather than a close PUBG substitute.
This is a feature-based shortlist, not a hands-on performance ranking. The games differ in match format, device requirements, and where you can install them.
How these PUBG alternatives compare
| Game | What it offers | Useful point of comparison | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Mobile | Battle Royale plus multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed | Requires iOS 15.0 or later; controller support is listed | Free to download with in-app purchases; internet connection required |
| Free Fire | Mobile survival shooter with squads of up to four | The US App Store description presents 10-minute matches with 50 players | Free to download with in-app purchases; the current US listing includes a timed Naruto collaboration |
| Fortnite | A distinct battle royale with a construction- and event-oriented identity | iPhone installation method depends on country or region | App Store access and alternative routes are not universal |
| Brawl Stars | Top-down Showdown arena battles | Pocket Gamer describes Showdown as a 10-character battle | A lighter, less PUBG-like format; check the current App Store listing for device support |
The App Store details above refer to US-region listings accessed October 7, 2026. Features and store metadata can change, and listed minimum iOS versions do not guarantee the same performance across all supported devices.
1. Call of Duty: Mobile — best starting point for a multi-mode shooter
Call of Duty: Mobile is the most straightforward choice here if you want a battle royale mode but do not want every session to be a large-scale survival match. Activision’s US App Store listing includes Battle Royale alongside modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed, so one app offers several types of shooter match.

- CUSHIONED MEMBRANE CONTROLS — COMFORTABLE & QUIETER: Cushioned membrane buttons and triggers provide comfortable feedback for repeated inputs while keeping operation quieter. Ideal for extended sessions or gaming in shared spaces.
The listing requires iOS 15.0 or later and says an internet connection is required. It is free to download with in-app purchases, not an entirely cost-free experience once optional purchases are considered. Activision also lists support for compatible PlayStation, Xbox, or MFi controllers. If you prefer physical controls, check that your particular iPhone and controller are compatible; that support should not be assumed for the other games on this list.
2. Free Fire — best when short matches matter
Free Fire is the clearest fit if you want a mobile survival shooter with a compact match format. Its US App Store description says a match lasts 10 minutes and places you against 49 other players. Treat that as the publisher’s description of the game format, not a guarantee that every match takes exactly 10 minutes.

The same listing describes squads of up to four players and in-game voice chat, and supports iPhone and iPad. It is free to download with in-app purchases. The current US listing is titled “Free Fire x NARUTO SHIPPUDEN”; the collaboration is timed content, so that title or event availability may change.
3. Fortnite — a strong option if you can install it in your region
Fortnite has a different battle royale identity from PUBG, with more emphasis on construction and live events. The main practical question for iPhone players is whether an official install route is available where they live.

Epic Games’ support guidance, accessed October 7, 2026, says iPhone and iPad users can get Fortnite through the App Store, Epic Games Store Mobile app, AltStore PAL, or cloud streaming, but each route has regional limits:
- App Store: Epic says Fortnite can be downloaded from the App Store on iPhone except in Australia.
- Epic Games Store Mobile: Epic lists availability on iPhone in the EU, Japan, and Brazil. The iPhone route is limited to Japan and Brazil; check Epic’s current instructions for the applicable device and region.
- AltStore PAL: Epic lists this as an option for EU users.
- Cloud streaming: This depends on a supported region and a stable internet connection.
Because availability and installation instructions can change, check Epic’s current iPhone installation guidance before deciding Fortnite is available to you.
Rank #4
- Compatible with Android devices and fits mobile devices ranging from 100mm to 170mm in length.
- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
- 2 Pro back paddle buttons
- Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
4. Brawl Stars — a lighter, top-down alternative
Brawl Stars is the least like-for-like PUBG alternative in this group, but it may suit you if you want a smaller-scale, more colorful arena game rather than a realistic-feeling survival shooter. Pocket Gamer’s July 2026 roundup describes its Showdown mode as a top-down battle with 10 characters.
That change in camera and scale is the point: choose Brawl Stars for a different, compact arena format, not because it reproduces PUBG’s battle royale experience. Check its current App Store listing for iPhone compatibility and requirements before installing.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose Call of Duty: Mobile if you want Battle Royale plus several other shooter modes in one app, or if documented controller support matters to you.
- Choose Free Fire if the appeal is a mobile survival shooter whose publisher describes a 10-minute, 50-player match format.
- Choose Fortnite if you want its distinct battle royale style and have an installation or cloud-streaming route available in your region.
- Choose Brawl Stars if you are open to a top-down arena game rather than a close PUBG equivalent.
What to check before installing
- Your iOS version: Call of Duty: Mobile’s US App Store listing requires iOS 15.0 or later. PUBG MOBILE’s listing says iOS 13.0 or later. These are current listing requirements, not guarantees of performance on every eligible iPhone.
- Your region’s storefront: App Store availability shown in a US listing does not establish availability in every country. Fortnite’s install routes are especially region-dependent.
- In-game purchases: PUBG MOBILE, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Free Fire are marked free with in-app purchases in the cited US App Store listings. “Free” means free to download; it does not mean every item or feature is free.
- Online access: Activision says Call of Duty: Mobile requires an internet connection. Cloud streaming for Fortnite also requires a stable connection.
None of these listed features establishes comparative frame rate, battery use, latency, matchmaking health, server population, or fairness. Those can depend on device, connection, region, and changing game conditions.
